@Sucker boi yes it is true. Just see how many cadets they accept a year then see how many sports teams they have. You won't get in with just academics.
I was a ballet dancer for 10 years! Now I'm gonna start working on getting into West Point and I can't describe how happy I was when you said you were a dancer! I'll be starting my freshman year of high school this semester and I REALLY wanna get into one of the service academies so thank you for this video! It really helped.
does being a jrotc cadet matter to admissions officers? i’m thinking of becoming an army officer at west point and my high school has a jrotc program but i’m not sure if it will be important if i end up wanting to pursue becoming an officer
Don’t listen to Suhayl. With that being said, however, fully understand the commitment you’re making to the government. They will own you for 8 years after you graduate West Point. Also make sure you understand the physical and mental requirements for attending a military academy.
As an N.C.O. that trained Cadets during summer Field Training at Buckner and Natural Bridge, I have a very simple answer. Excel at everything you do. From 10th grade on. And in the things you do not excel at,still seek and demand excellence 100% of the time. Always strive for it. And have deep cemented in desire to commit your self totally to getting in, through, and in your career as an Army Officer.
Freshman Year was a write off,.now not talking failing grades, just lower than the three other years They demand athletic ability. Looking for team Captains.Have to play either Varsity, club, Company level at the Point This is a must. West Point is all about learning to follow before learning to lead.@@MohammadAli-cw3nl

Hockey4744 it’s great that you’re thinking about this now. You’ll be able to start applying your junior year. In the mean time strive to be excellent at everything you do. Keep up the hockey and try to be a team captain in high school. It doesn’t matter as much what clubs and extracurriculars you do but how you do it. First I’d find something you’re passionate about and really enjoy doing and be as active in that activity as you can manage. Show your leadership potential. Find something that serves a greater cause than yourself. There’ll be lots of clubs and things to choose from when you get to high school. Do some research and pick something that really interests you. However, don’t over extend yourself. On top of concentrating on doing well in school and athletics you’ll most likely only have time for one other activity.
Thank you for posting this video, I am a freshman in high school right now and this video really helped me hopefully my dreams come true and I get accepted to WestPoint in 2025!

I am a junior now and Im doing the junior enlistment program with the national guard too because I made a 75 on the ASVAB. Could I get in? Im stressed
It's my dream to get into West Point and join the Army as a commissioned officer and serve my country. But I a few questions, do I join the Army THEN, apply for West Point or is it the other way around? 2. What if I am 180 lbs but can't lose anymore weight and still a reliable person, could I still apply? And 3. Could I reapply for West Point after my four-year term is over?
You apply to west point like you would any college Are you out of shape? If so: you need to be able to get fit. If you're just tall, 180lb is fine. Westpoint is a 4 year program, you have to be there for all for years, and only those 4 years. No more no less.
I am currently going into my 10th grade year, i'm starting out with a 4.0 gpa already and Im in varsity cross country and hope to make varsity soccer this year. I also plan on joining a math club. Becoming a cadet at West Point has been a passion of mine for years. Is there any additional things I should do in my high school career to better my chances of being accepted?
Current cadet here. Ur on the right path and I’d definitely say you’re doing great. However try to focus more on academics even if it means laying off on one of your sports if you need to. I’m class of 2023 and about 30 percent of my class were either valedictorians or salutatorians of their HS. Being varsity is good but they really wanna see you being captains if ur really good at one sport focus on that and go all in to get the leadership position. Same with clubs get those positions not simply be a member. Best of luck!
@ Mason Yes, Ice Hockey can qualify also because it is considered to be a competitive sport and there are Varsity teams. West Point has a long standing rivalry with the Canadian Royal Military Academy nicknamed the Palladins.
So I’m currently a freshman in high school and West Point is one of the collages that I have a strong feeling about going to. I feel good on the physical and leadership parts of this. My Academics are all As and Bs and I’m not taking many honors or AP classes. Do you think I should try to change it and challenge myself more?
so i’m a sophomore in hs (yeah i know im early) but west point has always been my dream. I have a 3.6 unweighted, 3.8 weighted. I tore my acl and am in rehab but before that I was captain of my high school freshmen soccer team(as a freshman) and play club soccer year round. I just got accepted into a 6 week internship for YMHA which is fairly prestigious as well as having done numerous hours of volunteering for my church such as service projects or community service. I am in my schools Honors Chmabr Orchestra and we were 1/4 highschool orchestras in the world chosen to do an international performance. I havnt taken SAT or ACT yet and I am in good shape. How am I looking and what else should I do to heighten my chances?
I’m not sure if anyone will see this, but I’m a little intimidated by the requirements needed but was curious to see how prepared I am already for an application to West Point as I am currently a sophomore in high school. I ended freshman year with a 4.1 GPA, and am currently apart of STUCO, and JV soccer and baseball. I don’t believe I will be able to become a captain of either of those teams however, and am curious as to what I could do to increase my chances. Any suggestions would be incredibly appreciated
So what your saying is, I shot my chances to hell before I even knew it? Currently a Senior that's a quarter away from graduation, average grades, 2.4 gpa, and mildly fit. Welp, guess I'll just enlist and use veterans benefits after service than.
Do I have to have a Bachelor’s degree to apply to West Point University or Or graduating from high school and applying directly to a university? please answer me
Yea, they really won’t look at you’re Elementary, and Junior High grades until you reach High School then you’ll want to Bust you’re ass off on Work like I’m a freshman trying to take all honors (2/3) and do AP classes next year while doing JROTC and doing a lot of sports. It is good though to study and try to keep up the grades to build up a habit.
Anais ¿ you’ll get a packing list and rules when you are accepted. Basic training is largely about learning those rules and regs. My main advice would be to never give up and volunteer to help whenever you get a chance. Show confidence.
So it is really too late for me to do sports run by my school (if I joined a sport now I would be super behind everyone else), do I still have a chance?
Justin Lopez yes it is possible to get in with a GED. After graduating from West Point you are required to serve on active duty for 5 years. You can attend West Point the first 2 years without any commitment. Once you start your junior or “cow” year you owe the army time.
I have a question I was born in the US and go to school in India is it possible I can join westpoint because my school has no sports I have good grades. Can I join?
Also, remember that as an Active Duty Serviceman you still have a Congressional Delegation, including Congressman and Senators. You have just as much right to apply to them for an Appointment to a Service Academy as anyone else. (This is how I entered USNA .) *s/ Retired 24 Year US Navy Submariner - USNA Class of 1965*
Ella Peirce it’s definitely not too late! im a senior and literally just decided i want to apply like 3 months ago and ive already gotten a letter of assurance!!
Broooo jiu jitsu would be perfect for preparing for this. Just not sure if it would be a team sport, but I’m very sure they’ll take it into consideration
For me, I think sports is the only major thing holding me back. Like, I did tennis when I was young, elementary school. And from 8th grade till 10th grade I was on a swim team, out of school, but the only time I tried to do sports in school was track this year, but well, spring season is canceled cause of corona so, how would that affect my application?
same lol i’m a natural leader and i love learning about combat and war history, i also get good grades but i hate sports and working out so idk if that’s important
Do I have a chance of getting into West Point? I just finished my freshman year of high school. I am currently on summer break and preparing for my sophomore year. My freshman year was probably the best year that I’ve ever had, compared to middle school. Academically and leadership-wise, I have excelled greatly. Academically: I have maintained 90’s and above in all honors classes, finishing with a GPA of ~4.1 I scored all A’s on my finals Leadership-wise: I am a baritone section leader in my school’s marching band (maybe the first even, since baritones were previously integrated into the trombone section) I am a First Sergeant in my school’s JROTC battalion I am also the captain/leader of my school’s air rifle team in JROTC I have also received the Superior Cadet award in JROTC, as well as the SAI (senior army instructor) leadership excellence award and academic excellence award. I have also received different awards for band for All-Region and solo competition for UIL.
Hey I also played baritone for a long time before coming to West Point. I am a current cadet and what really matters when applying is your standardized test scores, leadership roles, and physical shape. If you have those three locked and get a nomination, you should be good.
hey, im a sophmore currently, have plaed varsity soccer since 7th grade ( but i missed 8th grade year due to acl surgery ), am currently also doing karate and club soccer, go to one of the best magnet schools in the state, and am currently trying to lose weight. Im currently in stuco ( not a member of the board tho), key club, and a harry potter club. last year i had a 4.2 gpa and currently have all a's and a c which i hope to pull up. Was wondering abt any advice from literally anyone on how i can better myself ( if i need to ) in order to up my chances at getting in
Since I’m in high school and I’m planning to join JROTC to train myself mentally and physically to actually go to West Point. Is it necessary to join JROTC and will it have an impact if I apply to West Point and will there be a difference?
My son is considering applying for West Point but he wears glasses and contacts. Do they accept ppl without perfect vision and are they allowed to wear contacts/glasses or do they have to get laser procedure?
I believe there is also a possibility of going through the Army that way (as it technically is service connected). You would need to contact your commander about it
Hey EJ, I’m a sophomore in HS, looking to apply for the USMA. My mom is always on my ass saying how I need to do volunteer hours in order to get into it, if I have the minimum to graduate is this okay? Or does West Point genuinely care about the community service hours?
BenWestphal never shoot for the minimum. Always try to max out and be the best you can be in all areas. That said it’s ok if you aren’t the best at everything but if you can make time to volunteer or be involved in extracurriculars then that will increase your chances.
Hi i am thinking of applying to West Point but I am confused on where you go after graduation. I know that you are enlisted but where do you go and what do you do? Sorry i know this may be a dumb question
Flyurz GFX no dumb questions! So after you graduate you are commissioned as an officer which is a little different from being enlisted but you can find lots of info about that online. After graduation you go to basic officer leaders for whatever branch of the army you were selected for and then to whatever army post you selected. In my case since I went aviation I went to flight school at fort rucker Alabama and then to Germany. From there you serve at least 5 years active duty and will continue to change locations every few years.
Exaotic the application deadline is the end of February. It’ll be difficult to get everything done before the deadline if you have not already started.
If it was AJROTC it would be better, since you can get a nomination from JROTC, but it’s open for all Honor JROTC units, not just army. You should also focus more on Congressional nominations
im in 8th transitioning into highschool this year, I was wondering if it was hard to get a nomination. also, do you have any recommendations for clubs/extracurricular activitys?
Hey, so short answer for the nomination, YES. Haha there are different types of nominations and they are all difficult and competitive to get. Definitely get involved in sports and as many clubs that you can handle. Boy Scouts is very good
@@AnaFernandez-uz6ec yes Girl Scouts is amazing as well, shows that you are interested in learning leadership abilities. For the nomination process; for West Point, Naval, Air Force you need a nomination from either your congressmen, or senators. You could also apply for the VP. You only need one!! Check your congressmen/ senators website and look for when you can apply for the nomination. You will have to write an essay and type in some other details. If you get the interview I believe you will get a packet from your senator/ congressmen and a date for your interview. It will be a panel of academy Grads etc. they will ask you questions and you have be prepared for them. I reccomend looking up “ service academy nomination interview questions” these will give you an idea of the questions they will ask you. Be confident, dress appropriately, be nice to everyone you see at that office, come in 10 minutes early, and firmly shake hands with everyone you see on the interview board. Use sir and ma’am a lot. You got this! If you have anymore questions be sure to reply back
I’m in middle school and want to be able to apply for the USMA... as of now I am doing scouting and plan to make it to Eagle Scout, and participate in cross country and wrestling. I have all A’s and two B’s. How would this change my ability to enter West Point?
ChillWave’s World sounds like you are on the right track for a strong application. Keep doing what you’re doing. Maintaining your grades in high school will be crucial. Keep up with the athletics, extracurriculars, seek out leadership activities.
Carly Plagens the average gpa is around a 3.73 so aim for that. Generally you want to at least be making mostly As with some Bs. Take honors and AP courses whenever possible.
@ Priscilla Estrada Yes, George S Patton was "home schooled" for much of his early education and spent two years at the Virginia Military Institute in Richmond, Virginia before he was allowed to enroll at West Point. It took him 5 years to graduate because he was a TURN BACK in mathematics his first year or Plebe year.
Jeslyn Kim at the time I knew I wanted to join the military. Especially after the 9/11 attacks. I also wanted to go to the best school I could. Without any money to pay for college West Point was a good fit for me since it was an excellent school and offered the best training to be an officer in the army. There are also good ROTC programs and scholarships at other top schools out there as well.
gtboy7 I do not remember and the SAT has changed a number of times since when I took it. I would look up the most current average SAT score at West Point if I were you.

I ended freshman year with a 4.1 GPA, and am currently apart of STUCO, and JV soccer and baseball. I don’t believe I will be able to become a captain of either of those teams however, and am curious as to what I could do to increase my chances. Any suggestions would be incredibly appreciated
Do as much other things as you can. Join clubs, do charity, etc. also sweat out your grades. Make varsity senior year and you should be fine
I’m a freshman in highschool and am not currently doing any sports, is it too late to start by west point’s standards?
not at all
This will sound an odd question, but I am uncut - will that be a problem,as I know the USMC seem to think that is a problem?
So what your saying is, I shot my chances to hell before I even knew it?
Currently a Senior that's a quarter away from graduation, average grades, 2.4 gpa, and mildly fit.
Welp, guess I'll just enlist and use veterans benefits after service than.
My papa was in the Air Force base and I want to go to West Point even though I’m 9 years old ,Rj Zuspan
Couldn't get congressman nomination 🥺🥺🥺😿😿😿.
If I knew all of this before I was in high school I would have tried harder.
What if you will have above a 4.0 (due to a.p. classes) but not in the top ten percent of your class? This is my situation.
Sboss 86 still impressive and should be ok. They also consider the caliber of your school.
Edward Leo Thankyou for replying so quickly this is very helpful sir.
Do I have to have a Bachelor’s degree to apply to West Point University or Or graduating from high school and applying directly to a university? please answer me
Do you have to take a psychology class in high school?
im in 5th grade and right now i have a's and b's so i might get into west point but i NEED AN A ON MATH
I don’t think West Point will look at your grades from 5th grade.
I'm in 10th grade. I've been doing martial arts for 7 years. I help teach classes. Will this be helpful for me when I apply next year?
No. You need to actually be competing for a sport that they need not just teaching so they can fill their sports teams
@@bobdicc6633 We got tournaments. I don't just teach. I teach a class for kids, then I have my class.
I’m in 8th grade and want to go hopefully it happens
I'm a HS freshman, do you have a packing list for plebes and some rules and regulations?
*oh and a few tips for basic training*
Anais ¿ you’ll get a packing list and rules when you are accepted. Basic training is largely about learning those rules and regs. My main advice would be to never give up and volunteer to help whenever you get a chance. Show confidence.
So it is really too late for me to do sports run by my school (if I joined a sport now I would be super behind everyone else), do I still have a chance?
Ofcourse! its never too late :)
Hey, I was wondering if you can get into West Point with a GED? Also do you have to enlist after your 4 years?
Justin Lopez yes it is possible to get in with a GED. After graduating from West Point you are required to serve on active duty for 5 years. You can attend West Point the first 2 years without any commitment. Once you start your junior or “cow” year you owe the army time.
I have a question I was born in the US and go to school in India is it possible I can join westpoint because my school has no sports I have good grades. Can I join?
I always like to ask why. Is that not good if you want to join West Point?
Could you be prior service and apply for the Military Academy?
Mike 0355 I think you can as long as you’ll be 22 or younger and don’t have any dependents and aren’t married.
Yes as long as you meet all the other requirements
Also, remember that as an Active Duty Serviceman you still have a Congressional Delegation, including Congressman and Senators. You have just as much right to apply to them for an Appointment to a Service Academy as anyone else. (This is how I entered USNA .)

Salti Dawg thank you
How can the service academies prove you were a Captain
What’s the difference in going to west point at 17 or straight into the military boot camp at 17?
i don’t know much honestly but i believe west point is to become an army officer and boot camp is to become an enlistee/regular soldier
Rip I just found out about West Point a couple weeks ago but I’m a junior so I feel like I’m already behind
nah Im a senior in high school and barley starting the application process its def not to late for you
Ella Peirce it’s definitely not too late! im a senior and literally just decided i want to apply like 3 months ago and ive already gotten a letter of assurance!!
Me too! It’s alright!
I am going to West point I hope
My high school has a JROTC program, does it help to be in the program/does it look good to admissions officers?
absolutely it does! Join it, it will definitely help
Can foreigners who have lived in USA for two years enroll at West Point?
Would jiu jitsu be considered a team sport?
Broooo jiu jitsu would be perfect for preparing for this. Just not sure if it would be a team sport, but I’m very sure they’ll take it into consideration
i am ten and this is my dream college have any advice
For me, I think sports is the only major thing holding me back. Like, I did tennis when I was young, elementary school. And from 8th grade till 10th grade I was on a swim team, out of school, but the only time I tried to do sports in school was track this year, but well, spring season is canceled cause of corona so, how would that affect my application?
same lol i’m a natural leader and i love learning about combat and war history, i also get good grades but i hate sports and working out so idk if that’s important
Can bring part of the corp of cadets in senior military college increases your chance?
Do I have a chance of getting into West Point?
I just finished my freshman year of high school. I am currently on summer break and preparing for my sophomore year. My freshman year was probably the best year that I’ve ever had, compared to middle school. Academically and leadership-wise, I have excelled greatly.
Academically:
I have maintained 90’s and above in all honors classes, finishing with a GPA of ~4.1
I scored all A’s on my finals
Leadership-wise:
I am a baritone section leader in my school’s marching band (maybe the first even, since baritones were previously integrated into the trombone section)
I am a First Sergeant in my school’s JROTC battalion
I am also the captain/leader of my school’s air rifle team in JROTC
I have also received the Superior Cadet award in JROTC, as well as the SAI (senior army instructor) leadership excellence award and academic excellence award. I have also received different awards for band for All-Region and solo competition for UIL.
Show leadership and excellence any chance you can get.
Hey I also played baritone for a long time before coming to West Point. I am a current cadet and what really matters when applying is your standardized test scores, leadership roles, and physical shape. If you have those three locked and get a nomination, you should be good.
I live overseas how can I apply for West Point?
VERY NICE,up the MT. and down ,lol always ENJOY !🐾♥️🐾♥️🐾♥️☘☘🇺🇸 stay safe
hey, im a sophmore currently, have plaed varsity soccer since 7th grade ( but i missed 8th grade year due to acl surgery ), am currently also doing karate and club soccer, go to one of the best magnet schools in the state, and am currently trying to lose weight.
Ashley Santiago JROTC is a great way to prepare for West Point and the Army and will definitely have an impact.
My son is considering applying for West Point but he wears glasses and contacts. Do they accept ppl without perfect vision and are they allowed to wear contacts/glasses or do they have to get laser procedure?
ivi122 from a few visits there, I’m pretty sure you can wear glasses because I’ve seen cadets with glasses
GreeneyRS ok thanks for the reply
Hey, I have a question. If you are in National Guard your senior year, can you get appointed from there to West Point?
Yes, it’s very likely that you’ll get in if you have strong academics and extracurriculars. You’ll at the very least get into prep school.
Thank you very much
Is there no other way to get in if you are 22 and it’s past admission date?
Does West Point take weighted or unweighted GPA?
John Dressel unweighted, but they look at the difficulty of the courses you take, so challenge yourself
Comment pourrais-je vous contacter ?
Hi how do you get a nomination letter? Thank you!
Edward Leo thank you for responding!
Any information about international students ?
I graduate high school in about 4 months, is it too late to apply?
Exaotic the application deadline is the end of February. It’ll be difficult to get everything done before the deadline if you have not already started.
... graduate *from* high school?
Do you know if NJROTC would improve your chances of getting accepted?
Uncle Larry yes
If it was AJROTC it would be better, since you can get a nomination from JROTC, but it’s open for all Honor JROTC units, not just army. You should also focus more on Congressional nominations
Awesome
im in 8th transitioning into highschool this year, I was wondering if it was hard to get a nomination. also, do you have any recommendations for clubs/extracurricular activitys?
Hey, so short answer for the nomination, YES. Haha there are different types of nominations and they are all difficult and competitive to get. Definitely get involved in sports and as many clubs that you can handle. Boy Scouts is very good
@@benb686 ok thank you!
@@benb686 for females is girl scouts a good extracurricular to have too? and can you explain a bit more about nominations please?
If you have anymore questions be sure to reply back
A west pointer has a lot of open doors once you graduate from them..
What do you mean by 22 before your first day? Does 22 years and 2 months still count?
Doh!
Is it too late to do AP classes in your senior year? So far I’ve only done a few honors classes.
Ryan Dan ye
Paul J lel im doomed
Ryan Dan I don’t think is too late. Go for it and take AP classs
Is track and Cross Country acceptable sports as long as I am in leadership roles.
Sboss 86 yes
Of course they are sports...
When im done with highschool i would be 17 but where im from my school ends till jully so could i still aply?

@@SaltiDawg2008 That is the best advice right there.
Hi leo! What general gpa do you need.
Carly Plagens the average gpa is around a 3.73 so aim for that. Generally you want to at least be making mostly As with some Bs. Take honors and AP courses whenever possible.
Do you know a Homeschooler-West Point Alumni ? I have specific questions for them
I’d recommend asking on Quora
@ Priscilla Estrada Yes, George S Patton was "home schooled" for much of his early education and spent two years at the Virginia Military Institute in Richmond, Virginia before he was allowed to enroll at West Point. It took him 5 years to graduate because he was a TURN BACK in mathematics his first year or Plebe year.
No burn
Can i join west point as a foreigner ? I mean with me not having a citizenship .
No
Hi, since the application for class of 2024 is opening next Tuesday, I wanted to ask you what your motivation to West Point was.
I AM FROM INDIA HOW TO JOIN WEST POINT
What was your SAT score?
gtboy7 I do not remember and the SAT has changed a number of times since when I took it. I would look up the most current average SAT score at West Point if I were you.
Thanks Ed very Helpful I cant but hopefully I can inspire my kids to join ..... God Permits :)
