Your water control always amazes me. *Especially* when you're using a watered down pigment wet on wet without getting blooms. For those who know how hard that is you have to agree . It's masterful.
What a stunning portrait! You are so unafraid of those bold first layers. I need to be less fearful in my portrait painting journey. Also, your reviews of my journals are always so touching. Thanks so very much, Emily!
Hello, in this such a short video, there's a lot informations to learn. It's not easy to catch all the things for me but it's really good tuto !! Thank you and chapeau!! 🎩
Absolutely beautiful!! I love all the use of color! Even colors that seem like "oh no, that won't work!" Then, boom, gorgeous! I've only been teaching myself to draw, which I love now, but only started in my mid 40's 😊 then fell in love with watercolor, acrylic, mst recently charcoal while laid up after a massively botched surgery wrecked my life plans completely and permanently.... but, charcoal helped me get some stuff out ;) But I do love mixing colors and am trying to do more of it and in places or in ways that may be unexpected, to me at least😊we'll see. Love your work as always! And with all the loss of work and medical bills and renting oxygen equipment for the rest of my life, that plus my almost life long health issues, money is nonexistent right now, but I'd love to look at getting a journal like that!! I've made some for myself and since I love to draw with graphite and charcoal, I made mine with watercolor paper (cheaper stuff then this for sure) and with decent drawing paper, so that was cool. But, mine aren't as beautifully done as Rosie's, so it'll be on my dream wish list for one day :) so cool!! Thanks for sharing all this!!😊
@@EmilyOlsonArt Thank you for doing so much work to make edit and put videos that help me to still feel immersed in art even though I can't do it myself much. Art is truly and quite literally a life saver... and I appreciate any help I can find to keep my head focus on that. And I know there's so much behind the scenes work that goes into the videos... I was supposed to do that on this channel, and maybe... MAYBE.... try to sell cards I've painted and whatever else... though I know I'm not good enough which is why I waited, talked myself out of it from a young life of knowing ... feeling worthless. Even though my husband and son and others absolutely say the opposite, well... I just turned 50 a few months ago, and those things still sit in my brain and remind me over and over that I'd never be good enough, and that I should be embarrassed to even think I could... Its hard not to think that... impossible actually, for me. But, my husband got me this domain name in hopes of giving me a sweet push :) and I had begun making plans... nothing crazy, just my goofy simple stuff... but videos were so hard for me, .... then... as I said, a surgery screw up that left me .. bad.. So, now🤷🏻♀️ But, I have other, like you that make beautiful things I try to get lost in and hope to try, or just dream of. So... I truly appreciate all your efforts... life saving efforts is not overstating it🥰
I like the tasteful somewhat rustic homemade feel and it looks so well made when you open the spine! Love the watercolor too. You'll be taking that out for plein aire, lol! You won't need an easel with that journal! 🥰
It's literally like watching magic. I sit here and WATCH you do these things individually, and yet my brain still refuses to wrap around how it's turning into the final product!
Absolutely beautiful painting! I'm always so surprised at how dark you go with the initial skin washes, but it's always exactly right. The journal looks like a winner for sure. Thanks for sharing!
It’s almost impossible to entirely prevent warping, especially if you’re using a lot of water. If you paint on both sides in a journal like this, however, it will mostly flatten out. Wetting the back of the paper before doing a wet wash on the front can also help.
oh my gosh - how skilled you are!
A very beautiful portrait.! So delicate looking !
Thank you so much 😀
You are so talented! That was amazing. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the lovely comment!
Simply amazing. How you layer washes, over and over, to capture nuance in tone across the figure, is magical. I could not be more impressed.
Aw thank you!
beautiful ❤️

Wonderful portrait of your beautiful daughter. Btw, thank you for not adding any noisy "music" to your video. 🙏❤👋
Thanks, Anna!

Aw that’s very kind!
Thank you, they are beautiful.
I do graphite portraits but I am nervous about watercolour. You made it seem easy
What a wonderful beginning. Great video.
Beautiful journals and I love your paintings👍🏻❤️
Such a beautiful portrait!
Wow.

Amazing, thank you so much I would love a million more of these tutorials. Such a precious painting of your beautiful daughter.
Gosh, thanks Fiona!
Beautiful
WOW, this is beautiful. What a great job!❤
Thanks, Connie!
That mix of alizarin crimson and quin purple looks a lot like potters pink! Except I imagine you can get much darker values.
Beautiful painting of your daughter! Love the journals too. I’ll definitely check them out.
Beautiful!
Thank you, Emily 💜
This is way too intimidating for me to try myself but I loved watching you paint :) thank you!
Absolutely beautiful painting. Thank you for ideas! Nice journal but I'd immediately lose any rubber bands haha! That's why I stick to spiral 🤣
Absolutely beautiful painting! I'm always so surprised at how dark you go with the initial skin washes, but it's always exactly right. The journal looks like a winner for sure. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, it still surprises me how light watercolor dries!
you are such an amazing artist! I have a problem with adding darks but when u do itm the outcome is so good! thanks for sharing this video!
Thanks Deborah!
Thank you for this! Beautiful and so instructive! How do you prevent buckling when your paper is not taped down on 4 sides, or stretched?

Beautiful. I was surprised to hear you use Alizarin Crimson. Actually surprised they still sell it still. It is a fugitive color that fades horribly.
👍👍👍☀️
Beautiful
Does your sister paint to
She's an oil painter!
Such a beautiful portrait of your daughter, thanks for sharing 😊🌸
