This Easter egg was added to commemorate the loss of an amazing employee and first apprentice of Rare, James White (also known as Glitterbeard)
Jarvi owns no rights to any of the music in this video (Becalmed) all rights go towards Rare LTD
Huge thanks to every single legend who helped us achieve this Easter egg, you all mean alot to me.
In order to achieve this Easter egg you need 8 different pirates, all standing in the sand patches around Plunder Valley, playing a specific instrument which will be listed in the journals you can find around the seas.
Once all pirates are in position, wait for 10pm-11pm (IN GAME TIME) And play the shanty Becalmed and let me magic happen.
For anyone considering to record this, make sure the recorder is in the lead, let them play first then everyone else will proceeded a second or two after.
Make sure you are 100% in the correct position, otherwise you will mess everything up, and have to start over again, or in an unlucky case like our first attempt, have to wait an entire 24hrs in game time haha.

James White was glitterbeard. The name for him came when he showed up at work with a bunch of glitter in it. There's a picture somewhere.

I too lost a very good friend to a forklift accident, and i wont say it gets easier when time passes and seeing his gamertag on almost every game i play was hard but now im just thankful i get to see it soo it keeps reminding me of him and all the good times we had🥰

this was a really great experience in game. I had becalmed ( the vocal version) played at my dads funeral,.it's a really positive song about hope for the future.

Do you know what I really love about all of this though? Rare used a community made song for this. Whilst they need to fix their game, they do actually care about the community. The chronicles of Umbra wouldn't be a thing if the case were otherwise. Such a great way to remember a co-worker, immortalising him in the game the he loved and helped create.

Did this 2 nights ago. Had to take a sloop hostage cause we only had 7. Ended up with 9. The 9th ran security detail and waved his arms dancing it was awesome. The light entering the tree as it might be Jim White starting his career at rare or even as GLITTERBEARD on the sea of thieves and spreading through us all and then it departing the tree as it might be Jim’s spirit. RIP GLITTERBEARD!

me and my friends did this the other day and i had no idea this existed and we did it with complete strangers and we did mess up the 1st time but the fact everyone was willing to wait to do it again really touched my heart, people around the world coming together to play a song and a place as special as this.
it honestly made my day and since then my attitude on SOTS has been to spread kindness and help others with their voyages, we sail the seas together, dont take this game too serious or u lose what secrets this game has and the gift of people working together does.

Did this the other night with strangers in an alliance and it genuinely brought me to tears, both with the event and the journal you read after. I think SOT will always hold a special place in my heart after such an experience.
My friend told me about this today. The chills... their real... there all over me. This is the part of humanity I live for.
just did this with a rather friendly reaper galley after having helped them with a FOTD. Becalmed has always been my favorite shanty in this game and now I like it even more.

Did this for the first time yesterday with 12. It was beautiful to say the least. This game is amazing for the community and endless possibilities of something new happening every time you log in…almost cried. Not gonna lie. Thank you everyone who did this with “Krazy Sampson” n gang. Much love.

It might feel like a bit much for so many people to remember one person this way, but it teaches us to have more honor and respect for anyone good who leaves this world. This is a tribute not just to Glitterbeard, but all those we loved and lost.
Got 10 of us together from a random server last night. All randoms that banned together for the community event. Half of us cried the other half couldn't believe it was real and said it was the best moment they've ever had in a video game. Thank you so much Rare, for this wonderful tribute.
I just got this achievement with three other ships I just randomly got together. Beforehand, while waiting to get enough people together, I collected all the loot I had found on the island--treasure chests, gold captain skulls, mermaid and siren gems, etc.--and left it all for them to share among themselves.

Not ashamed to admit it, this brought tears to my eyes.
The hardest part is getting other ships to stop shooting you long enough to do this. I blame Twitch, the game was friendlier during the beta.
Games evolve overtime. If there's anything to blame it would be Arena.
I just did the tribute today. Took 2 hours on Xbox getting the crews together and getting to actually do the song right, then right when the lyrics start some jerk we were doing it with betrayed us and kegged us off the island. Still got the beard but I don't really care about that, this is a somber easter egg for a good man, and on Christmas no less...I won't name em, they know who they are, and should be ashamed of themselves. similar experience, just not quite griefing. i did it with my buddy and a bunch of random players. we didn’t know what we were doing and by the time we figured it out, it had already been about 2 hours. we finally had our instruments ready and in position when one member of our crew had a power outage. he made it back after about 45 minutes and we managed to get it done. long night, but it was definitely worth it in the end.
We all can agree that the story behind allowing a lost friend and co-worker be permanently honored in the game they all love is so admirable.
But THIS SONG!! This song seriously brings me to tears because you don't just think of "Jim Glitterbeard" but you likely think of all those we have personally lost in our lives 😥

While I may be iffy of videoing this main event as is, I felt it would be too unfair on James to show what's inside the room after, so I left that out, out of respect.

Most don’t do it for the flex. Me and many others did it to remember the fallen legend. Just because some have no morals doesn’t mean they don’t exist in others.
Did this today. I've been playing this game since day one, and despite all the fond memories I've had with my old crew, this was the best moment I've ever had with the game. Brought tears. This game has its ups and downs, but it's moments like these that keep me coming back. Safe journeys!

I use the sails to show I'm a friendly, and we got a Reaper Galleon chasing us down and another sloop yelling Glitterbeard.
It took a bit for him to get the second reaper Sloop to agree, but we got it done. And I cried a little when the lyrics hit and more at what was after.
Then I felt even more happy to have gotten this done because I came here and saw why it was implemented and.. well, we played the rest the day into the morning together and worked as a team having never known each other before this. I think I'll keep using the sails in chance to help more get to see this.
I haven't played but parts of a game like this just bring so much joy to my heart. The sense of comradery and solitude that moments like this bring just touches home.

Did it today, I swear I had shivers and tears of joy, we searched all along the sea of thieves for people to help us get this event, we just did it, We have got to reunite each others even if we where from different horizon and speaking different languages, I am not joking that this event was by far the best experience in all of my life. This was pure cooperativness and friendly thoughts, never thought to say this but really, thank you to you all, Skorpiios, Kousejionas1985, Kroser77, El Preciso2158, Woeldy EgoIsmus01 and my dear friend Sev for this unique experience, this was a pure moment of joy, and I will remember it for a very long time. Thank you too Rare for this unique game made with love.
I've always wanted to open the cove, but I can never find anyone. I always pay my respects and play a tune, regardless of if I'm by myself.
I do the same I bury treasure here and pay respects by playing the song . every time I try to gather people open crews just want to destroy my ship or abandon when we get to the island 😞

Just did this today in a massive server alliance across many twitch and discord servers in commemoration for gold weekend. It was an amazing kick off to a day of collaboration and comradery.

Once I heard this song and found out the context to it, I could never hear this song the same without a tear dropping down. Never played the game but the music is beautiful and the fact this pay homage to GB like this is really touching to the soul. Rare really did pay high respect to Jim with that E.Egg
I got this achievement with a friend, and three other sloops that we allied with on the sea. We congregated, and my friend suggested that we try for the Glitterbeard achievement. So we did. It took us a few tries because we had to get an eighth player, but we did. The screenshot that my friend took of all of us in the clubhouse is now and forever my desktop background.

Apparently the name glitterbeard was coined after J.W was hit with a surprise glitter cannon, and glitter stayed in his beard for days. RIP legend

Ok so after finding all the journals and seeing this video I was super touched and dedicated to find this Easter egg. After about 3 months of trying I finally got it done with a crew that didn’t really care at all. This was rough for me because I really enjoyed it and hated how I need to involve people that don’t care when I could appreciate it for what it’s worth on my own. I hate when people say the point is to make friends I really like how that’s part of the tale but it’s just not applicable to like 90% of the player base in reality
I just did this tonight with two of my friends and two extreamy nice random crews. There was nine of us total and I was the ninth, i was dancing and playing instruments and i has a great time, if ur seeing this arctic and dragon, thanks to both of you for being so nice and for sharing this absolutely beautiful encounter. I hope to sail with you again

I had no clue this was a tribute until some random people pulled me along to do an 8 man hidden quest.
The next thing i know, im strugling to hold my instrument playing as the lights turn on and the vocals came in.
Then one of the randoms heard me sniffle in VC and told me the story behind it and i lost it.
I absolutely love when devs do things like this.
This is such an amazing event to do. The second time was just as magical as the first, and I would still be up for going a third time.

Really cool of sea of thieves to do this, endless respect. Whether you like the game or not you gotta admit this is badass.
So me and three others were out doing our thing in a galleon when we got attacked by two sloops. One of my crew members seen they were in an alliance. After we stopped shooting we quickly ran up the mast and flew the alliance flag and anchored the boat. Both sloops pulled up next to us and asked if we wanted to do the Glitterbeard, we reluctantly agreed proceeded to the tree and opened the cave together. By far one of the best moments we had in SoT. To top it all off, at the end of the day we seen a brig at an Outpost we were headed to. As we got closer we seen it was a ceremonial sinking and they even had all of their supplies on the dock waiting to be picked up by a new spawn. We all did the shanty as her ship sunk, we invited that crew on our galleon launched all the fireworks and did the same as they did. A ceremonial send off.
It's absolutely amazing seeing a gaming community come together like this. It's nice to know that not all gaming communities are toxic!!
I love it when the SoT community all gather, it's one of the most wholesome experiences you can witness. It's not all about lust for blood, it's about the friends you make along the way and the journies ahead!

Thanks for uploading it on TH-cam, this song makes me cry everytime we start hearing the vocals in the back, feels like an angel voice from afar. That's such a beautiful song, did that mission a while ago with some random players, we started at 7, and needed one last player to do it. And on our way to find the last one, we found so much people (probably all the session players), that we ended being 12 on site. That was a beautiful and rare moment of gaming. Very proud to be in this awesome community and being able to sail all together !

Reaper came up on my friend and I on a sloop, sent both of us to the ferry, and when we came back someone was fixing our ship. Joined his alliance with other random and sailed here. Best moment in gaming for me was seeing 9 pirates (one guy watched the ceremony) March through the island
In 2018, RARE dropped Sea of Thieves on Xbox. In 2020, Sea of Thieves moved to Steam. One year ago I purchased my first PC. Today, my three sea of thieves friends, 4 randoms, two of which were playing for the first time ever, and myself completed this quest, and i can speak for myself when it was pretty emotional. Amazing song, amazing atmosphere, and a beautiful community. Love you Sea of Thieves, blackscreens and all 😂

Completed this in a public server tonight. A galleon fighting my crew for a skull fort told us about it and we took a break from fighting to do it. Then afterwords we allianced up and finished our fight before selling. One of the best gaming experiences I’ve had to date.

It's very poetic to me how the most beautiful shanty was written by the villian. Becalmed was composed by flameheart Jr's crew when they found themselves stuck with no wind in thier sails on the way to the sea of thieves.

I came here because I couldn't find a crew to help me for almost a month straight (I glitched in this afternoon, and no, I don't feel good about that), it's nice to see this
The coolest thing I've ever experienced in sea of thieves, if not all of my 25+ years of gaming. 3 random crews ( including my 3 man galleon crew ) randomly allianced tonight and this quest came up in conversation and only a few of us ( myself included ) even knew what it was. People from Canada, the US, Australia and England all working together to pay respects to Jim White. And my 2 friends and I have played several nights a week since the beta was released and through full release yet we've never encountered other nice players in our sessions before this. We all ended up adding eachother on xbox and played for hours afterwards helping eachother with voyages while getting to know eachother. Makes me smile just thinking about it, so glad it happened.
