  • In this video I show you how to replace your old, beat up or broken key fob for Chevy Equinox (2010-2017), Buick, and GMC. I was able to use my old laser cut key, but if you don't want to use your old key you can go get the included blank laser cut by the dealership. Some will do it for free or charge up to $50 to cut the key. To program the chip in the new key fob you will need a separate WORKING key fob for the vehicle. Otherwise the dealer will program your new fob for you as well.
Super easy process and saved me about $100 as my dealer would charge $50 to cut and $50 to program.
You can buy this same key fob by clicking on the following Amazon link:

Thank you, this is so helpful! I have two key fobs for my 2011 Equinox LTZ i bought it 2 weeks ago from an old couple & the car's like brand spanking new, except for the key fob buttons 😅 Would i be able to do this with both of the keys? I imagine they spent a pretty penny for the second key.

I don’t see why not. Just do one at a time.

Hi, thank you for this! How do you do the start/restart switchover if you only have one keyblade, and it’s in the new fob?

As far as I know you need two keys to do the programming.

All I need is the stupid pin out so I can put a key in. Is there anything besides a "punch" or whatever you can use?

I used a tiny nail to get mine out.

having this problem too. I've even bought different sized nails and pins, and literally beat them into that hole with a hammer for over an hour -- still absolutely nothing.
UPDATE for anyone having this same issue -- I gave up on removing the pin and instead popped the whole fob open, replaced the entire keyblade mechanism aka hinge, release button, spring etc. The only tricky part was loading the spring, but it was still way easier than trying to get the pin out🤣 followed a tutorial called "how to replace key fob buttons | chevy cruze" by mindmeld tech here on youtube. this video was super helpful as well, just trying to save other people the time I've wasted if the pin won't move for you either!

How did you get the new key fob cut? Defeats the purpose of switching the key part of you have to have 2 cut keys to program.

That’s the point- so you don’t have to get the new fob cut.

Wait so ,,??? if your new key fob blade is not engraved or laser cut then you will actually need a set of two spare keys in order to program it correct???

So programs the key fob, means the Auto Unlock and lock button will work?

    • @HomegrownReview

That and there are some safety features within the vehicle to prevent theft. If the chip in the fob is not programmed to your vehicle and you use the key the vehicle will stop running.

Hi so I got a small nail, but can't seem to get the pin to come out any advice?

    • @HomegrownReview
      @HomegrownReview  หลายเดือนก่อน

Keep pounding away. Once you get it to come out a tiny bit use some pliers to pull it out.
