Primo video, Whitney! I had to watch it in segments, but it certainly was well worth the time! I especially appreciate that you continue to reiterate the importance of personal color (know your "season") and, equally important, knowing your body type (not just apple, pear, inverted triangle, but, Classic, Romantic, Natural...think David Kibbe!) It makes a world of difference! This was an excellent topic, Whitney, and you carried it off with your usual great professionalism and enthusiasm.

Hi loved the video. I think the idea of a casual module sew along is such a great idea. I have quite a few of the patterns you mentioned and have been looking at some of the others. Love the new hair.
Honestly Whitney every time I see you, you are looking more beautiful! I don't know what you're doing but we could all use some :) your skin, eyes, hair - all so lovely. Thank you for this great video! Some great suggestions - one take away for me was to get out some of my gorgeous - yes TOO precious - fabrics like my silks and make up some casual patterns like woven pants, shorts, and jackets. There is a fantasy unfolding in my mind to make myself a Sienna jacket in an olive triple ply silk I have stashed :)
I loved this video! I got so many ideas for a Fall wardrobe from all of these examples. We keep our home VERY cold in the Winter, so many of my makes will be out of heavier fabrics, but I think many will work out fine. I love silk for wearing under pants in the Winter. They really do keep me much warmer and they are great for wearing under the jogger pants. I had to laugh when you were speaking about trying to regulate body temps. The expression on your face was priceless! I am past it for the most part, but there were times when I literally opened the freezer and leaned over it to cool myself off. My husband got used to seeing me hanging out windows in Winter and standing over the forced air vents in the Summer when the AC was on!! Hi from England. Just love your hair, don't know how long you have been doing it this way as You Tube is playing up and I am not receiving notifications, ughhh! Really good pattern choices. Thanks for all your effort in this video, Whitney! Gave me lots of ideas, and can’t wait to work with some of the patterns I’ve purchased during the quarantining :)
Wow! Those are some great ideas. Any sewalong you come up with would be great. I always look forward to any of your videos. Your makeup looks flawless by the way. Just stunning!
I’m looking forward to my first pair of Mountain View jeans. Definitely going to be on the lookout for some good stretch corduroy fall the fall. Adding turtlenecks to my sewing list. Love me a good turtleneck. Been eyeing the toaster sweater pattern since last year.
This was a huge inspiration for my fall sewing planning... loved it! Looking forward hearing your views on Kibbe, especially linked with sewing your own clothes.
Morning Whitney, Love this video. Great pattern choices too. Last winter I made the Nina Lee Southbank sweater dress, it’s very cosy for those very cold blustery days. I need to review the patterns I own as I do have a number of those you mentioned. Great video. Have a great weekend. Val ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
Yes to work at home sewalong ... just what I need and was looking for! I have the Yanta Overalls sewing pattern and love it. Was planning to make another!
Saw this article and thought of you. Maybe you should include a house dress in your fall ‘work from home module’ 😁😍 I love the idea of a house dress! ....www.npr.org/2020/08/18/902621260/the-house-dress-is-the-fashion-statement-of-2020?.com&
Love your new hair! This is a great topic. I like all your ideas. Dressing---and even dressing-up a bit ---is is an attitude booster. The two things I want for stay-at-home are a yoke style long skirt (because waists bind when I sit for a long period) and a "comfortable" unlined high-hip, not too loose linen jacket to professional-up a loose stand-up collar linen shirt that I love to wear. I have a vest, to dress-up the shirt, but a jacket would add variation (and I am so so so so I tired of my covid19 cardigan collection). I have not found a pattern for either a yoked long skirt or an unlined semi-fitted linen jacket. Do you know of any good patterns off the top of your head. Thanks.
Sewaholic has a skirt like that, but I can’t remember the name off the top of my head. As far as a linen jacket, is the Closet Core Sienna Jacket (the shorter version) too boxy?
@@TomKatStitchery Thank you so much. View A of the Sienna, made as short as view B would be perfect! And the skirt you suggest, is great also. Your ability to fit patterns to looks and your willingness to share those ideas is much appreciated. Again, Thanks.
Great video Whitney! So thorough in true Tomkat style-I found a ton of new patterns, new to me I should say that I need to buy. ( need the itch to stitch pull one #1) doing it now. I just bought some navy with gray and silver pinstripe stretch suiting I was goi;g to do some overalls and pair them with a gray knit somthjng cute under it, maybe something floofy girly, which is so funny that you mention your penchant for menswear fabric with a feminine shape or spin. One of my very favorite fashion combos. I haven’t worn overalls since the 90s, I wanted to do something different. I’m busting with inspiration! Thanks so much and yes do the challenge - hoping life is settled by then so I can partake.
What a great video. Timely as we all realize this remote life, those of us lucky to be able to work remote, is not going anywhere. As a matter of fact I am helping my job to go paperless so that we can function more efficiently-period. LOL I definitely am interested in woven joggers, especially with stretch maybe a cottona sateen. A little shine lends itself to the suiting option....That is one type of pattern that I actually do not have. But I think It's time to pull the trigger on the Helen's Closet version. She is just so reliable around ease of instructions. I really like the como tops so simple and so stylish nicer t-shirt option and although not much into skirts are overalls, definitely I would add a jumpsuit to the list. Working on the Closet Core Flight Suit today. I also just ordered the sofia top/dress from Victory after seeing you post them on Pinterest!!! I am so thrilled I had no idea they are finally expanding size range to include my size. Let's face it I need the excitement of a few new pieces to motivate me to actually get dressed these days. Well played Whiney! 👌🏽🌈💚
I’m excited about Itch to Stitch as well! I actually started testing a new one for her today (that’s in the new size range). Let me know how the Flight Suit goes! I’m thinking of starting that one soon as well. I’m also really interested in hearing about the Sofia. I really think I need that pattern in life and soon!
hi kat really nice video, very helpful, i love your top looks good on you, could you make video of wat you'll be using fall wardrobe ,i been thinking abaout it this week ,and do you knit sweaters, cardigans? are tou adding any pieces ?thank you ❤
I will definitely do a video of my Fall plans and what’s coming back into my wardrobe from last year. I do knit and currently have 2 sweaters on needles. I can totally talk more about that as well!
The Abi jumpsuit caught my eye and I really think that’s you modeling it on their pattern page?? Or your twin! Anyhow great pattern run-through! I started sewing almost a year ago and it went from dresses for work to masks and now comfort wear! I’m definitely into the nice blouse tops and look forward to more fun ideas.
You are so amazing. Period. Just amazing. Especially in your ability to take the trends and styles that come and go and adapt them to make them accessible to a real person. Though the stores are doing much better in showing styles on mannequins of all sizes. I haven't worn pants with pleats since I had a 24-28 inch waist. Nope. I've lost 45 pounds and still losing and am within 15 pounds of my goal weight. Still can't get my head around pants with pleats as a possibility, let alone with drastically tapered to the ankle legs. I need a trip to the mall to try on clothes to actually see the transformation. I love how you wear dresses, I have to say. Another thing I need to get my head around is wearing dresses without pantyhose and heels. My skin is so pale, I hesitate to wear a nice dress with bare legs unless it's a slim skort with sneakers. I'm showing my age, I know. But, thank you, Whitney. Just, thank you for everything. This is a video I'll come back to as I plan my new wardrobe.
Thank you for such an in-depth vlog as well! Yes to a casual module sew along. No need for prizes - for me it is just good for inspiration and accountability. I still haven’t tackled the dawn jeans which I was going to sew for the great module sew along (toile cut out in March but not sure it will still fit me now......)
Thanks Whitney, great video! I am transitioning back to work next month. Being 60 they consider me at risk so I am easing in so to speak. Lol, first time I considered my age a plus! A lot of these will work for me. I am in an office environment at a private boarding school so classic casual is fine. I am going to revisit this when considering some fall dressing.
Look at the Presto Popover shirt by Naughty Bobbins. It has that same high knit neckline and it looks great. It's also an interesting construction method that is quick.
Working from home during winter in the Southern Hemisphere currently and getting lots of wear out of the Tilly and the Buttons Coco T-shirts and Jennifer Lauren Handmade Ivy Pinafores :)
My favorite “comfy” pants pattern is the style arc Beth. They are easy to fit too. I wish I could wear pleats, but they are not flattering on me unless they have a flat yoke (80’s style). Check out style arc if anyone needs a comfy, but classic looking work pant. Many of the patterns are designed for stretch fabrics and have a back elastic waistband. Great for active jobs like elementary teachers or any job you are moving a lot in. There are so many great pattern designers out there. I love the Romy top/dress- I may need that one- I think a lot of your choices would work for my Kibbe style too (soft natural).
Ridge Reich I have just gotten the StyleArc Beth pants and will be making them soon but my question to you is how easy were they and what kind of material did you make them out of?
Judy Sieweke they are very easy. Style arc has a video on here- it might be helpful to watch it first. Fitting took me longer than actually sewing the finished pair. I used Bengaline (hobby lobby carries some decent Bengaline in several colors). Look at your fabric carefully so you get the stretch going in the right direction. Good luck!
You look lovely in your vlog. I have a fancy for some woven joggers and have been eyeing the Arden pants or the Arenite. I have the true bias Hudson pants which I think I will hack- and use Tencel, cupro or silk crepe de chine. I don’t know if you have made any woven joggers?
Thank you, these suggestions are great. Could you please suggest which woven patterns would be best for a novice. I love the first one, as well as several others, but would like to start with the least challenging and with clear instructions. A demonstration would be wonderful, of course. Love your channel. Stay safe.
Hahahahaha...problems regulating your body temperature!!!! A plaid wool trouser with a floral blouse!!! what a really fun and useful subject you covered xxxxx I just got the Adrienne blouse for free from Creative bug
An old pattern that has a super comfortable elastic waist that is more tailored looking is the Soho Pant by Textile Studio. You might want to check it out.
What an awesome vid! I am a teacher who will be doing some at home and some at school (online teaching) and I am really trying hard to be comfie but look good. Thanks for all of this. Do you have an affiliate link for Love Notions Olympia?
I wanted to wait until the end to comment, but I am entirely distracted by how perfect your hair color is for you! Is that a honey brown? Really fantastic.. :) Now, to watch the video content LOL. :)
Thank you! It’s my natural hair color. My stylist does do an all over wash every 12 weeks to add a bit of dimension (because it’s a bit flat otherwise), but other than that this is the natural color. Surprisingly, there’s a bit of red in my hair. I had no idea!
@@TomKatStitchery It is very much like my younger natural color.. honey and coppery reds, but would overall be called brown, though I think I was called "dark blonde" by one stylist.. that may have been for vanity points LOL. I went all the way with the coppery light red color, but the last application has faded and I am thinking of moving toward that younger me color while waiting on the grey to come in (I am rooting for silver/white to win out lol) Otherwise it has aged toward the "drab" side of the color spectrum. So, looking for semi permanent colors was on my mind when I started watching.
Michele yes! That sounds very similar to my natural color as well. I have a feeling mine will look more “drab” as i age and as I wait for the gray/silver to come in!
LOVED this video! Thank you so much for putting this together - there are some gorgeous pattern options! I’m newer to garment sewing (been a quilter for years). Do you think the jogger or trouser patterns would be too difficult for someone new to garment sewing to make? I hear all the time how difficult pants can be to make!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! Actually, the joggers and the elastic waist trousers would be great for first pants. Because neither silhouette is very fitted, you won’t get caught up on a ton of fitting issues. That’s where the issues with pants usually comes, the fitting.
Interesting video’s Whitney, I have learned a lot watching your work these last weeks. First found while looking for active wear, got interested in other topics to. You mention wool, as in men’s suiting. This is worsted spun, not worsted weight. Worsted spun yarn has all the fibers parallel, which gives it a smooth strong yarn with a bit of a shine. Worsted weight tells something about the thickness of a yarn, not how it is spun. It is a relative thick yarn, good for handknit sweaters, scarfs etc. ( I am an avid knitter and wool spinner)
Silly girl! The shrunken cords could have gone with your oxblood knee high boots and a chunky sweater! Very chic! This whole video is perfect for those of us who have restrictions with disabilities too! I too 'work' from home all the time and since moving have gotten into the rut of wearing leggings and dresses (not together-that would just be weird! lol). With our autoimmune issues it just makes it easier but now with these alternatives I think if I can find comparable patterns in plus sizes I may just get busy and make a more respectable wardrobe! lol
I could have totally worn them with tall boots, but the skinny hem was coming uncomfortably onto my larger calves. Basically, every time I bent over, it got stuck on my calves and pulled my pants down. An interesting problem 😂.
@@TomKatStitchery I could see a comedy skit from that description! Too bad you don't know someone that could let the hem out! LOL Maybe it's a good thing they found a new home!
I feel the fluctuating waistline problems... I love that Romy pattern. I have been debating making it up, but I havent seen too many made up on instagram or anything. Would love to hear your thoughts. Also that new pull on jeans pattern seems so cool. I wonder if it would be easy to hack into more of a bootcut
I have made the pull on jeans (the Mountain Views) in a straight, skinny and bootcut and they are fabulous in all three! I’ll also let you all know if I end up buying and making the Romy. My pattern wishlist is long 😂
This is a long one packed with useful info! Still watching. Just wanted to let you know that the link to the Love Notion Olympia dress seems to be missing. Totally understandable with that impressive list of links. But as it’s an affiliate one you may want to add it. 💕
Your new hair style is beautiful. I love the curls. I am so anxious for the golf clothing tutorial that you are planning. I actually went into the golf shop yesterday and looked at ladies clothing for seam finishes, fabric ideas, and the latest trends. If there is any information that you can provide in advance, I’d love to hear it. Thanks.
Oh good! I’ll probably do some golf sewing in the next month or so and I’ll take you all along. I, too, did some window shopping at our local golf shop!
Thank you! Not least for the handy hints for us skinny types. So much info today about how to dress to look slim, but for people like me who are on the skeletal side of thin and would like to look a bit more 'rounded', there's nothing. And I always say, Wallace Simpson was wrong - You can be too thin. LOL! Thanks again.
Underneath the title of the video (when you're playing it) there are a couple lines of text. If you hit the "show more" or down arrow to the right of that the description box will drop down. All the links for everything in the video can be found there!
Speaking of necklines, your shirt is the most flattering neckline I've ever noticed on you. It frames your face and hair so well.
Thank you! This is a thrifted top. I’ll have to make a pattern from it!
Pam Varnell I totally agree. Whitney you look stunning.
@@TomKatStitchery it's a BOATNECK neckline, yes? I agree, it's definitely "classic-ish/somewhat sporty" you! You need a sailboat to go with it!!!

Saw this article and thought of you. Maybe you should include a house dress in your fall ‘work from home module’ 😁😍 I love the idea of a house dress! ....www.npr.org/2020/08/18/902621260/the-house-dress-is-the-fashion-statement-of-2020?.com&
Ooh a work from home module! Good idea as, frankly, I’ve gone quite feral and need a little push. Ps love that top on you
Feral 🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 I can relate!!
This was a Great video. I think I getting interested in Kibbie now....I have been dressing with my colors for years...but this sounds interesting 🤔
I find all of the dressing “rules” fascinating. I think it’s fun to learn them so then you can deliberately choose to follow or break them!
I can't wait to hear your take on kibbe body styles
I’ll mostly be focusing on my own as the rabbit hole for all of them is deep!
I’m so glad you liked this one! It was fun to research. Stay tuned for a more relaxed sew along!
Whitney - thank you, LOVED this video! Inspired for some fall sewing. I'm in for a capsule/ module sewalong!
Oh good!
Yay Finally glad to hear itch to stitch is expanding size range!
@@TomKatStitchery Will do!
hi kat really nice video, very helpful, i love your top looks good on you, could you make video of wat you'll be using fall wardrobe ,i been thinking abaout it this week ,and do you knit sweaters, cardigans? are tou adding any pieces ?thank you ❤
p.s. we don't mind long videos ❤❤❤
I will definitely do a video of my Fall plans and what’s coming back into my wardrobe from last year. I do knit and currently have 2 sweaters on needles. I can totally talk more about that as well!
Will you be making something with boiled wool this year?
I hadn’t really thought about it, but that would be a lovely fabric to work with!
The Abi is a great pattern. That isn’t me on the pattern cover, but I totally take that as a compliment!
What a lovely comment to read! Going to the mall and trying on all sorts of silhouettes is a fantastic way to try new things without the investment!
So many good ideas, thanks for sharing.
My pleasure!
love your new hair!
Thank you!
Oh good! I think a more relaxed one will be nice. Stay tuned!
Relaxed module sew along!!!
Definitely! Stay tuned!
111 degrees today. Lotta cashmere in the thrift stores. Your eyes really pop today. You look great🥵🥵
Yikes! However, you had me at lots of cashmere in the thrift stores ... that’s my favorite thing to thrift!
Oh good!
You cracked me up with the $5500 cashmere jogger suit! People are crazy!
Right?!!! I clearly have NO idea how the rich live and spend 😂
I really enjoyed your video. Nice patterns. Great ideas.
I’m so glad!
Love this idea! Great video!
I’m so glad!
Look at the Presto Popover shirt by Naughty Bobbins. It has that same high knit neckline and it looks great. It's also an interesting construction method that is quick.
I’ll go have a look!
Excellent video. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Working from home during winter in the Southern Hemisphere currently and getting lots of wear out of the Tilly and the Buttons Coco T-shirts and Jennifer Lauren Handmade Ivy Pinafores :)
Ooh! I’ve wanted to try the Ivy Pinafore as well!
Good luck!
This is fantastic! I love Style Arc and will go have a look at the Beth pants!
Ridge Reich I subscribed to their UTube channel but did not find the Beth pant. Is their another way of seeing it?
By the way Ridge thanks for the heads up on Bangaline at Hobby Lobby I’ll go check there
Thank you this video is very well thought out
My pleasure!
I’ve made knit joggers, but not woven ones - yet! They will be playing a part in my Fall wardrobe for sure, though!
I love browsing through Net a Porter too! That being said, it's definitely not the other half - it's like the top .1% lol
Agreed! Can you imaging having $5,100 to spend on cashmere loungewear?!!
Thank you, these suggestions are great. Could you please suggest which woven patterns would be best for a novice. I love the first one, as well as several others, but would like to start with the least challenging and with clear instructions. A demonstration would be wonderful, of course. Love your channel. Stay safe.
Sure!
Hahahahaha...problems regulating your body temperature!!!! A plaid wool trouser with a floral blouse!!! what a really fun and useful subject you covered xxxxx I just got the Adrienne blouse for free from Creative bug
I love that idea! I’m totally doing plaid trousers with a floral top!
Look so beautiful!
Thank you!
Additional dress suggestion: jasper by paprika patterns. I have one that I call my blanket dress its THAT comfy.
Ooh! I’ll go have a look at that one!
An old pattern that has a super comfortable elastic waist that is more tailored looking is the Soho Pant by Textile Studio. You might want to check it out.
I definitely will! Thank you!
Hi Whitney, that was so inspirational 👌....would love a module sew along 👍💕😁😘
Ok!
wow! Great job. Enjoyed!
I’m so glad!
What an awesome vid! I am a teacher who will be doing some at home and some at school (online teaching) and I am really trying hard to be comfie but look good. Thanks for all of this. Do you have an affiliate link for Love Notions Olympia?
I do. I just updated it!
@@TomKatStitchery Thank you, I will use your link to shop
Could you please tell me what pattern the t-shirt you are wearing is? It is beautiful on you and I think we are built the same. Thank you.
Unfortunately, that top was a thrifted top so I don't have a pattern for you. Sorry about that!
Excellent info. Thank you.
My pleasure!
You are right. I totally misspoke on the worsted. I’ve been knitting a bunch lately so worsted weight has been on my mind 😂.
TomKat Stitchery btw I am looking forward to your video about woolen fabric.
Love your hair like this
Thank you so much!
Fun video-thank you!!
My pleasure!
My pattern wishlist is long 😂
@@TomKatStitchery I would be very interested to see the jeans variations!
Ashley T sure! There is a video on the channel with all three! I think it’s called “A Trio of Mountain Views.”
This is a long one packed with useful info! Still watching. Just wanted to let you know that the link to the Love Notion Olympia dress seems to be missing. Totally understandable with that impressive list of links. But as it’s an affiliate one you may want to add it. 💕
Oops! Thank you! I’ll go add that one!
I will be ordering her book
❤️
Wow you look Ahhhmazing!!! You’ve lost weight!!! Great vlog!!
Thank you! I had to cut out sugar because my glucose levels were high. I guess I was consuming a lot before hand 😂.
Great recommendations!
I’m glad you liked it!
18:00-what about the men's wear wool from Goodwill and your puffy blouse? Do they match?
I’ll have to pair them together. They are close.
Great topic
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one!
Would love at home sew along.
Ok! As soon as I get my kids back in school, I’ll start planning!
I wish I could have my mechanics fix cars from my home. Those two lifts won't fit in my living room...haha
🤣🤣🤣
How do you find these different patterns?
Underneath the title of the video (when you're playing it) there are a couple lines of text. If you hit the "show more" or down arrow to the right of that the description box will drop down. All the links for everything in the video can be found there!
I have an honest question. Why do you suggest only independent patterns and none of the Big 4?
I’m not really sure. I sew with both. I can definitely make a more concerted effort to include more Big 4 patterns in these types of videos!
😀
❤️
Those open neck smocked tops don't look good with my bosom. Better do a toile.
When in doubt, always toile!
Lotta commercials.
Sorry about that. TH-cam has made some changes.
