  • targeting wahoo with Jay on the O Sea D. I had my doubts we were going to catch any wahoo’s as I know they are generally elusive in NJ waters.. didn’t take long to stick a nice one, followed up shortly with another. The fight on both fish was pretty lackluster as we stayed up on troll speed and eventually dragged the fish in on the surface, but a hoo in the box is a hoo in the box. After that our bite went cold, we saw a ton of mammals and tuna chik’s to keep it interesting. on the way in we plucked a few mahi’s off some pots.

    Good work crew. Nice to see a well oiled crew that knows what they are doing, and not a three ring circus with 4 captains calling out orders. I live and fish in south Florida, and it's good to see the NE slamming it....

    Finest kind! Nothing like a day offshore. I can’t get over your ability to find a weather window - these last two videos looks like you’re fishing in a bath tub.

    Can someone explain to me why they don't slow the boat and fight the fish with rod/reel? What's the point of handlining in the wahoo and gaffing it at high speed? Not sure if I consider that sport fishing.

    • @TheNicko773
      @TheNicko773 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an inline lead trolling weight in front of the leader. Once you reel to the weight, you have to hand line the leader in, because the weight stops at the reel and definitely won't go through the eye guides of the rod. You never want to take the boat out of gear when your hooked up because of slack and head shakes.

    I fish commercial so what u can't find that much (wahoo) I release. Grouper is only the first 4 months of the year so that keeps them plenty. Goliath Gs are a mennace now. Too many n park right under my 52 ft

    Hey, they’re renaming the Cleveland Indians and trashing Chief Wahoo, so we’re going to have to rename the fish too. Wahoo isn’t allowed on planet earth anymore.😆

    How big do they get up north? Average? I'm key West 30 to 40 normally but have caught a couple 80 to 103 pounds. Bigger in bad weather

    why do they keep the boat moving forward while fighting the fish, it doesn't make sense, doesn't that make the fight harder, more resistance?

    • @JT-kr3dg
      @JT-kr3dg 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They still have other lines out trolling. Easier to just fight a fish than reel everything in stop the boat & start over.

    • @sodeloutdoors8047
      @sodeloutdoors8047 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      when highspeed trolling for wahoo you have to keep the boat going so the line doesn't go slack. if the line isn't super tight its very easy to pull hooks. also a lot of times a wahoo will make a big run and then run straight for the boat. if you stop the boat you wont be able to keep the line tight due to how fast they swim. This way you are in control of the fish and the fish isn't in control of you.

    • @TheNicko773
      @TheNicko773 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When wahoo strike, they strike hard and usually rip a hole in their mouth. Wahoo are hard head shakers, and try to shake the hook out in the fight. You must keep the boat in gear to keep the line tight or they will shake off.

    • @marcopugliese7284
      @marcopugliese7284 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Nicolaysen nah for wahoo u need super heavy gear because of the trolling speed

    • @brrr8904
      @brrr8904 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Michael Nicolaysen definitely not oversized gear for highspeed trolling

    • @michaelnicolaysen7391
      @michaelnicolaysen7391 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well guess that's a style of fishing I'll avoid. Looks boring as fk.

    • @marcopugliese7284
      @marcopugliese7284 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Nicolaysen it’s actually really fun. They always take super long runs. They have soft mouthes so if u take them on stand up and pump the rod u lose a lot of fish
