    I own one of those and I am really impressed with the power cranking, the drag smoothness and the fish were brought in with ease. I fish both in fresh and saltwater for salmon from 10 to 65 lbs in Alaska. This is the poor man's Stella and will not break your bank account. Highly recommended.

    For everyone who has hard time deciding between 5000 saragosa or stradic..... if you use very thin braid (pe #1.5-2) and cast far, go with stradic fk or new fl. Stradic has a worm gear and it wraps line much tighter (more wraps top to bottom). Stradics are amazing reels for their size, I have used stradic 3000fk for king salmon up to 25 pounds with no problems for few seasons (I did install carbontex drag from day 1). I also lifted few smaller bonito up the pier using stradic 5000 without having to pump the rod. Using heavier line on stradic may cause issues with long distance casts. And it will not fit as much line. So if you are using heavier braids then go with saragosa. For those that use mono, just go with spheros and save some money because there's no need for powerful drag. Also, both spheros and saragosa are better sealed than stradic and can take more abuse on the beach.

    I bought a Shimano Thunnus 16000f somewhere in the middle of 2000's.
    I still run it for Crab snaring and off the cliff fishing north of Jenner.
    Still operates like brand new and has never needed to go to the shop
    For anything. If I was in the market for a new reel I would lean
    Heavily toward a Saragosa hands down without a doubt.

      I'm stuck on which one I want to get the six or eight thousand. I can't believe the 6,000 only has 10 kg of drag. That's the only thing keeping me from going with that one. I want to be able to use it in and offshore. An all-around reel. Which is best for all purpose? And then the 8000 weighs almost eight more ounces. I wish they could have done something for that in between of drag and weight difference between the six and eight thousand

    • @ThorrRA3793
      @ThorrRA3793 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know 22 lb is still plenty drag but it's on the light end of what's necessary for bigger salt water species in my opinion. And I'm just having a hard time buying the 6,000 even though it's the one I want because it's 16 oz I mean my 5000 Stradic even has 24 lb of drag. I don't understand how the bigger more expensive Gosa that has a double stack drag has less pounds of drag.

    Good stuff!! The reel question now is.....when is the new gosa gonna hit...and how are they gonna screw it up...It used to be gosa and stella...with no worry of encroaching on sales since there wasn't a Twinpower to speak of in the US market......Now....With the TP SW a thing....Are they going to update the Gosa SW before the TP SW and try not to make it a more compelling buy. I hope they scrap that stupid parallel reel foot that seems to be a pain in the arse on some guide layouts and get the rotor balance issue ironed out at launch....

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ha, that reel foot. you know, on my Spheros 6k, i did notice that it almost points away from my trevala (weird). but, under load and bent over a rail, the reel seems pointed straight at the largest guide, so maybe that's why the parallel foot is a thing, and surf casters/poppers aren't happy with the jigging-first design (total assumption). and yes, i'm kinda curious what the new Gosa brings to the table that the current TP doesn't. i suspect, they kill the Spheros completely, fancy up the Gosa with a lighter Sustain-ish spool and rotor, and drop the Gosa msrp under 300 to stymie the next Slammer/Daiwa equivalent. if you get a sneak peek lemme know!

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main issue is how it twangs the stripper guide ring. It doens't bother everyone. But it does some. And one some setups it's really noticeable. I really hope they bring it like the spinfisher vi. With a baitrunner, and long cast option.. I hope they slap on a ci4 rotor on the smaller sizes and wouldn't mind if they start the alu rotors on the 8 and 10k. That could bring the weight down to sub saltiga 4k weight. If they brought it to the table with double lipped seals at the side plates they'd steal quite a bit of market from vs provided they re issue the bailess option (hopefully one that is balanced not like on the gosa f)

    • @NasalObstruction
      @NasalObstruction 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i 'think' the Saragosa might have been intended mostly for jigging/offshore, so the parallel foot helps point the spool at the largest guide when the rod is bent in a U (my Spheros 6k kinda does that on my Trevala). strictly casting guys prob hate that. i heard the rotor had a problem of being unbalanced at times which could lead to slight pulsing. i bet they redesign the rotor for sure in the next version (think Sustain-ish design, maybe even Ci4+ like TA mentioned).

    Concerning the spool capacity-- I have heard estimates from the low 300's to 405 yds. If I spool this reel with 50lb. braid (say power pro for the sake of argument) under reasonable tension what do you think the spool capacity is from your experience. Thanks, Patrick

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      since shimano owns powerpro, their spool capacities are based on regular powerpro machine-wound on spool (super tight). personally i think i never get 70-80% of rated capacity, plus i usually use cheaper/thicker braid.

    I purchased this reel today, with the bail arm open the reel handle is quite stiff to turn/wind but it is fine with the bail arm closed
    I loosened the drag but the reel handle is still stiff to turn/wind with the bail arm open.
    I have never had this with a reel at anytime is this normal? or should I contact Amazon to return/replace the reel?

    • @nickjulian2256
      @nickjulian2256 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaima Large reels are harder to flip the bail while turning the handle. This is usual, and you shouldn’t use the handle just use your hand. Its just one less breaking point, don’t get a new one. It’s normal

    • @nickjulian2256
      @nickjulian2256 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, adjusting the drag would not change anything. The rotor is connected to the handle through the gears and has no correlation to the spool so tightening drag would only tighten the spool.

    Hi. Great review. I reticently purchased the Saragosa 6000 for my Tsunami Air Elite 1102M surf rod (11/18). The reel performs as expected which is great. I do have a thumping as I real in though. The angle of the Saragosa is 0 degrees which is parallel to the rod. Most reels if I m correct have a 3-5 degree angle towards the rod. The thumping is coming from the line hitting the bottom of the first guide as I reel in which is distracting. Is this a rod reel mismatch? This is the first I have ever heard of this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    • @ishwithfish
      @ishwithfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, thx for watching. so the 2 biggest flaws with the current Gosa are the parallel foot (surf casters #1 pain point) and the rotor which has been known to be a bit off balance in some reels (pain point for popper guys). my 20k Gosa and my 6000SW Spheros has the same foot design but the rotors seem perfect. my assumption for the foot design is this: this was primarily designed to be a bottom jigging/pelagic topwater reel first, and was later adopted by surf guys. when bent over a boat rail, the lower guides of the jigging rod are bent over past the spool, and the parallel foot produces a perfect line lay, at the expense of surf cast rods that need the 5 degree tilt towards the bottom guide for shore casting. i 100% think Shimano will correct this in the next version (Spheros too) and throw Ci4 in a better balanced rotor too. the reel is so successful as-is I can see why Shimano hasn't wanted to change them up just yet. imo Okuma's Makaira, Tsunami's Salt X and and Penn's SSVI will force their hand soon enough.

      just bought a ssvi on amazon for $120. Great smooth reel for the prize, with insanely satisfying drag. I've never owned a Penn but this sold me, for reel. The only thing I don't like is the handle, but it not a big deal. For the price and the sealing assurance, this is a great surf reel. Personally, I thought about getting the Seragosa for bottom fishing/yellowtail off charter boats, but a Diawa BG at 6500 or greater will prob do just as well for substantially less ($80-$120 amazon).
