Many lubricated crews have done that very thing. Best to just fly it as well as you can and take care of it when going back up wind again. AND if you are headed to the finish... get it down or suffer the equivalent of the 'Walk of Shame'
nebraskatpp I have worked foredeck on over 100 successful races and never hooked the tack to the spinnaker halyard, however I did connect tack to spinnaker sheets and we won that race... Doyle sails sure fly well :)
Adnan Medic I was a professional sailor for over seventeen years on the southern gulf coast. I understand how those mixups can happen. I even have some photos of some of our more colorful leaders getting their chutes upside down and sideways... making sure to display them prominently in our retail store for all to see.... hey you guys take your funny pokes at us everytime you get the chance. LOL
This summer a boat behind us flew their kite like that. They didn't seem to be loosing at all to other boats. Luckily the wind shifted and they didn't need to gybe.
+sailawayteam I work foredeck and our raves are usually on Saturday morning and sometimes late nights happen so I connect Clew to Tack, we flew the spinnaker like that, won the race and didnt even realize it till we saw the pictures few days after.
For me it was fun. The shock, stress, adrenaline crew of each vessel should have been an extraordinary experience. The event occurs in seconds and within seconds the crew has to respond. But it is normal for weekend warriors. I envy a good way. In the end it says a total disaster, but fun. That's what life is all about, see things in positive way.
It appears that some of those crews need some heavy weather racing practice.... and some just need practice to understand how the running rigging works.
holy shit. even on my first time setting up the kite i didnt do it as bad as all these people. Ive only done 1 thing wrong in my 6 months, and thats putting the brace on the pole under the stanchion. but i was trying to do that under the gib.
This is a great video for planning our course and on-deck strategies. There is a lot to learn from these bloopers and mess-ups.
If you haven't been in those situations, you haven't tested your limits! :D
LOL. Imagine if there was any wind!
Excellent sound and music.
LOL at 1:02 The head was tied to the tack line hahaha. Foredeck crew must have been drunk.

that laughing track is ten times worse than lousy music
That sail being hoisted by the clew, whoever did that is never going to live that down.
Been there done that. Easier than you think.
these are L34's ahhh favorite!! love these boats, really awesome yachts.
Yeah. Handling a spinnaker in stressful situations like a regatta is difficult and sometimes mishaps happen. How very funny... :/
Sorry but setting a spinnaker with the clew attached to halyard is always going to be funny
beautiful video, but the audio is awful
canned laughter sucks big time
0:43 it looks very nice !! ^^
Music is the assessment of the level of sailing. ;-)
0:52 - what was the mistake there i dont really get the situation ! is it going backwards ?
@1:29, I kept waiting for Josh and Chuck to start talking :)
How do you manage even rigging that?
I really liked it xxxx

That's a big burgee they are flying from the masthead ...
Don't be so serious folks! This video IS fun whether you like the soundtrack or not. Thumbs UP!
Tricky things, spinnakers.
aren't the spinakers supposed to help , this looks like me on a bad day

They are flying the international flag of failure...a spinnaker 10m in the air
Spinnaker fishing
Not Bobbin along ⛵
@Plstrom the sail is coming off the boat!
It isn't "fun" at the moment. But when you've "been there, done that" you can really laugh at someone else making all YOUR mistakes!
Laugh tracks?
How quaint!😩
these situations are not funny at all, we all know the costs of any kind of damage to a sailboat or sails....they hurt....
Music and canned laughter spoilt this.
2:16 to 2-38. Fuck up come hero.
1:56 - Beheading Jibe

i'm feel like a pro
Training training training
no wonder they are never in the americas cup finals
Don't make laughing of sailors.
good footage, the canned laughter tracks and stupid sounds effects are horrible though.
What the F , these guys are hoppless.
The soundtrack is nonsense, to anyone who knows what sailing is all about.
again a lot of keyboard skippers here
Boss mast

Audio gave it thumbs down.
total bescheuert dieses oops ....eh ....iiiih
non c'à niente da ridere. Sono equipaggi alle loro prime esperienze e.... bravi comunque
A most annoying sound track.
Kame richards is super uber better
I hit the dislike button at 1:17...........

Worst. Soundtrack. EVER.
Hate the really stupid soundtrack
