  • Don from Don's Old Radio Shed TH-cam channel sent me an immaculate clock radio to repair and keep. It doesn't work and needs a full restore. The clock doesn't work either so I test out my horologists skills, there are a lot of bits in there, will I be able to fix it?

Coffee with Dave, what a way to celebrate Veterans Day in the USA!!! I am an old Vietnam Vet, so Veterans day has always been a very special day for me. It is even more special when I turn on TH-cam and see that Dave has posted another great video, thanks a million Dave.

  • @orionwarren4244

You were right about that obnoxious alarm waking the dead, Dave! 🤣

  • @chriskilby5300

Great video as usual Dave. I'm sure the dead were already awake watching your video getting some great radio repair tips. Looking forward to your next adventure. cheers

  • @timothygrupp

I wished I looked as good as that unit given our ages. Great job again!

  • @1974UTuber

Another "Timely" repair that went like "Clockwork" Dave. That's some fancy feature for a 50s radio.

  • @dennisp.2147

You aren't half joking about that alarm waking the dead. I had snoozed off a bit while watching with my headphones on (no comment on the content, its 2AM here! ) I was nearly full asleep when the damned thing went off. I sat bolt upright mid-snore, legs twitching. Me thrashing in bed woke the missus up. She gets concerned that I might be having another infarction. So yeah... It's an impressive alarm.

Another job well done David. That radio must have been inside all of it's life that case looks perfeect for being almost 70 yrs old. Thanks for another great video.

I don't know about this one, but the socket on the back of clock radios were usually hooked to the clock. The idea was that you could hook up your coffee pot and have it turn on with the alarm, so your coffee was hot when you got up.

Don's little radio is a belter. The macro camera work with multiple screens when the clock started was impressive. Another great video.

  • @theradiomechanic9625

Nice looking set. I was going to mention that the clock likely had Radium on the hands. But you beat me to the punch. I have a couple of

LOL I love that! SIR Dave Tipton .My Grandad Had something like it WAY way back in the 1960' s I was a nipper then and used to get my hands slapped for fiddling with the dial .

  • @ShannonFerguson

Well done, Dave! I was scared too when you opened the clock. What a beautiful radio! And as always very well editted!😂

Good tips on removing stubborn knobs and on clock repair. The secret to clock repair is in the oil. I learned that after repairing my grandmother's 100 year old wind-up wedding clock which hadn't run since the Great Depression. A thorough cleaning of the gears in a non-residue forming degreaser (brake cleaner, flux remover, e.g.) and then a few drops of Liberty clock oil on the axle points and in the mainspring and it sprang back to life. Hasn't slowed down except for weekly windings in the two years since my repair. As you know, clock oil has high viscosity and doesn't evaporate or gum up in time, so it is the preferred lubricant.

  • @allenshirley1077

When turning on various electric clocks over the years, more than once I noticed clock hands would bump backwards before moving clockwise but never knew why. Thanks Dave, you solved one of my life secrets! Great repair work and video work!!

  • @eddys.3524

Congratulations on your Peerage, Sir Dave ! 😁

  • @stevescheberle277

Thanks Dave! Nice tip on taking knobs off. Your clock repair is kind of a "blast from the pass" for me, when I was young I rebuilt mantel and kitchen clocks to make a little extra money. You are right, just a little oil on the pivots, and a small amount of grease on the worm gears. What a great guy Don is!

  • @TheUltimateRecycler

Nice to see you tackling clocks too Dave 👍😊 Yes, way too much oil! 🤣

  • @meichong8278

15.8 ...Thanks Dave thorojghly enjoyed this 1 as ive always loved clock radios / teasmade .I look forward to the next project ...... as always .❤

  • @marksgmail66

Astounding work, especially with the relative complexity of the clock gears, etc. Nice!!!
