Louis, I fixed the pfm006 problem!!! Fan is back to normal! , the kernel is not hogging the whole cpu, everything is back to normal after the water spill, thanks to you. Apple quoted me $755 to fix it, actual cost $7.99 for the screw drivers. And a couple bucks for alcohol to clean the board. After having the sensor fault you stated to replace the trackpad cable or the trackpad, so I started with a good cleaning and cleaned the cable, cleaned around the thermo sensor on the board really good, and that fixed it, did not have to buy a single part!!! Awsome thanks!
Thank you Thank you Thank you...Just like you said followed rails and my R7978 on my 820-3115 was knocked off, holding on to 1 pad..YOU ROCK!! Symptoms: green light on then off no fan spin..
I didn't even bother. I phoned this one in. :( learn when I have to, or when something presents a problem I can't solve. If I figure it out, I live with a little ignorance so I can spend that time on the rest in the pile. Someday, life won't be a hamster wheel of keeping up with a stack of boards and running in the litle wheel, and I'll go on to learn all the things I want to know. I can only hope
Hi Louis, thanks for the excellent videos. I have a 820-2879 that had liquid spilled. There is almost no corrosion and I have made 3 passes with isopropyl alcohol and a brush. I am getting all S5 rails including 0.9V, 3.3V and 5V. I am not getting any S3 rails or S0 rails. PM_SLP_S3_L and PM_SLP_S4_L both show zero volts. I tried jumpering a working 3.3V S5 rail to the S0 enable circuit where PM_SLP_S3 goes in but the fan still doesn't turn on at least when I try bridging the power pads on the top or bottom side of the circuit. Unlike your video, I unfortunately do not have a component that I can solder across to give the S0 enable a 3.3V supply so I have to hold the jumper wire with both hands. My questions are these: first, to go into S0 mode, don't BOTH PM_SLP_S3_L AND PM_SLP_S4_L have to be working? At least that's what I interpret from the Power Control Signals chart in the schematics. If I supply 3.3V to the PM_SLP_S3_L or PM_SLP_S4_L circuits individually, the fan does not turn on. Second, in your video, you supplied 3.3V to the S0 enable as a bypass for PM_SLP_S3_L but was PM_SLP_S4_L working? Finally, is it okay to use the power pads on the logic board as 'Power On' or should one use the keyboard power button?
Shahrukh Bakar I should mention that the green light comes on brightly when the MagSafe is connected, and that the battery charged properly with an orange light that turned to green in the expected time for a full charge. It seems like I should be able to figure this out but I am being held back by a lack of hands to give 3.3V to S0 enable while turning the power on!! Perhaps I should unscrew the keyboard from the laptop so that I can maneuver it more easily while keeping it connected to the logic board? I did try bridging the power pads both with and without the keyboard ribbon connected just in case that was the problem but no luck there.
My board (820-3437) has a PP5V_S4RS3 of 0v Where does this signal come from? In the schematic it seems to be created nowhere... Is it made on the LIO board? Would that imply that the LIO has to be connected to test anything? I fixed plenty boards already but I have always left the LIO off, but maybe this model is different?
Thanks Louis for the Chanel. I have liquid damage 820-3437 board, i checked PP5V_S5 and PP5V_S0 and both exist...but fan doesn't spin....advise please?
Louis, great channel! Thanks!!! In my case PP5V_S4RS3=0V... I/O board doesn't provide on. PPDCIN_G3H=18.5V Unfortunately I got no I/o board schematics... Do you you know when I can get one, or any advice much appreciated. Thanks
Could you just power up the machine pressing the power button before putting power on it? Because my machine gets works and then it reboots then works fine. I do have issue with brd and pdf file, there are components and nets that’s are incorrect(
Hey Louis, first time writing, long time observing, i am dealing with the problem on this board, my 5V is pumping ...there is no voltage, then it spikes to 2V (or more, can't measure that fast) for half of a second ,then 0 again and it repeats that in loop every few seconds...i went all over the board view and can't figure it out why is doing that...i injected 5V ,and when the charger is pluged in, fan works, then suddenly fan stops for a brief moment, then draws about 500mA for a moment ,and goes to loop drawing aobu 350mA...but without the charger it constantly spins the fan drawing 280mA....i'm lost...Can you please help me guide? greeting from Croatia!
Louis , where do you get the ASD 3s156 ? Is there a free site All the ones I tried want a credit card I'm a little skeptical on giving my credit card info. Is there a free place to download this 3s156?
Louis I've been watching your videos and I find them very interesting, thank you for sharing your experience. I have a problem with a 820-3437 with water damage and not turning on. When I connect the power (without battery) the fan will spin for a second and then stop. I get no green light with the battery connected and no charge. I have been looking at the ISL8259 to see if that was working ok but on the PPDCIN_G3H_INRUSH the schematic shows that this should be 18.5v, and I'm only getting 14.5v. Even if I go to PPDCIN_G3H this also measures 14.5v. If I looked at the writing on the power supply, the voltage out is only 14.5v. So my question is how does it get the 18.5v? I then looked to see if I have a voltage at PP5V_S0 and at P5VS0_EN which both show 0v but I do have a voltage on PP3V3_S5. So I tried to force the EN to 5v on U8180 but this had no effect of turning on the board. So I'm not sure what to check next, what would you recommend? Rick
Unfortunately there is no board diagram for my early 2011 I7 2635qm 2.0ghz macbook. I am missing PP5v_s5, but I do not know the component number where pp5v_s5 should come from. If someone is able to help please do so, I wanted this to be my first macbook...
Louis Rossmann i have the same board model in my shop (water damage). After cleaning it had a green/orange light but 5v_s3 was off (3.3 s3 was on). only 3.4g3h and 8.1. looked around and the en pins were off.. and apparently was the same prob as yours.. the sleep signal was on low. so i did that trick to turn them on. and yey it did but it didnt powered on (fan wasnt spinning no video... ) . plugged a keyboard in .. it didnt start only by pressing power btn. i did the smc bypass trick (power btn pressed while pluggin charger) and the fan started spinning - i was yey finally. and it rebooted in like 2 seconds.. did that 2-3 times and now its not even powering on (it has 5vs0 and 3.3s0).. any ideeas where to look? thanks
Ciolacu Alexandru Hi Ciolacu, I am in almost the same position as you. In my case, both PM_SLP_S3_L and PM_SLP_S4_L were showing zero, so I supplied 3.3V to both and that actually worked! The fan started spinning, first slow then fast, then it stopped. No matter what I did afterwards, it is not turning on. As before, I still have all S5 rails but no S3 or S0 rails. Did you ever find a solution to your problem?
Same problem. After soldering like in video it powered and booted. I noticed I forgot to plug battery in. Plugged out power and in battery and then nothing. Not a kick only when power and plug in trick. But no display.
Louis, Great vids!! I am a stay at home dad Disabled Vet, and after watching about everyone of your videos i decided to try to work on my wife's Mac-book air 2014, 820-3437 After a small water spill.(my Fault) I have removed the board cleaned it with 99% alcohol and tooth brush. Everything works except. The fucking fan spools up and runs on high and runs slow. I have checked the fan circuit and test good. i bought the schematic and board view that you use on your videos. I believe it the Therm o Sensor. The following codes are what shows. PFM006, nnp001, and a wifi board code. I went to page 44 on the schematic trying my best to understand just don't know where to start and confused as termite in a wooden yo-yo. any guidance would be great. If money was not so tight I would just send it to you. Sean B North Carolina
Run the appropriate ASD for your machine and it will tell you which sensor is failing. This way you are not working blind. I think 3S155 or 3S156 is for your machine, not sure off the top of my head. Common sensor fault is bad trackpad or bad trackpad cable.
Hi Louis my problem with 820-3437 is when I plug the charger with or without battery I take green light for 3 seconds and then come orange not turning on have any idea?
Hey, any ideas on a non-working keyboard/trackpad on an 820-3437-B, but only after boot? It works fine before you get to the OS, but after booting the keyboard and trackpad are non-responsive? Power button still responds though after boot. It's killing me. I have two sitting in front of me with the same exact issue and I'm stuck. Both were minor spills. Working fine otherwise now. Thanks for any help.
power button is on a separate trace from the keyboard /trackpad to the motherboard cable. Try another one of those. Could also be a fucked up trackpad, no way to know without replacing
Thanks. No luck with that unfortunately. I just tried a new trackpad and keyboard with no change. It's so odd that the keyboard and trackpad will both work perfectly before the system boots - at the boot drive selection screen - but once it boots they die.
lifesaver. thanks for getting me to do the basics. bad cable. i sent you $100 through paypal. more than deserved for all the help. i took a guess and sent it to louis@rossmanngroup.com. let me know if there's a better address.
and sorry about the double-post on the two different videos. i was thinking they were the same 820-3437-B video and that my first comment/question had somehow not posted.

i have the same problem. What area exactly did ypu clean?
did you remove the batteries?

Luis, you are an amazing person , thank you for sharing your knowledge.. I can't stop watching you vids....
Hi
U8180 is called a logic gate
That is an AND logic gate...
Simple logic processes, google it, usefull to know and not time consuming to learn :)

some clue ?
thanks
what program viewer are you using for this?.
Thanks Again

Not the OP, but I located the program. It just required a little searching. Landrex TestLink. It's a program to view .brd file.
FormallyIntroduced
Not updated since 1995. Total shit.
Hi Louis my problem with 820-3437 is when I plug the charger with or without battery I take green light for 3 seconds and then come orange not turning on have any idea?
Giannakopoulos Ioannis check PP5V_S5 or S3 to see if it is on.
Louis Rossmann Yes PP5V_S5 and S3 is on at probe points.
