    1) Anyone facing issues with velocity boundary conditions and lack of data for creating an amplitude, could resort to defining a "predefined field". It works fine!
    2) Also I suggest using Analytical rigid instead of discrete rigid if the impactor could be modelled as an extruded/revolved shell. Analytical rigid gives more accurate results than discrete imo.
    3) Take care of the mesh size as well. Check if its an element or node that is present at the impact point. Its highly sensitive to the results.

    Hi Sanan
    I tried the this example with 3D hashin criteria. I tried to output "RF3" (Reaction force) for the rigid body node set, but when I plot them in Abaqus/CAE, all the RF3 values are zero with respect to time.
    can u please tell me how to overcome this.

    Hello, thank you for your video. But I'm confused that what the contact properties between two layers is. Or do they need to be tied each other? Thank you!

    I am getting displacement greater than the value specified in paper. my graph trend is quite correct but time in Force-time curve is shifted by some value. so what should I do to get my composite stiffer so that I'll get FT curve properly.

    Hi, Sanan. Pretty good job, thanks for sharing this technical video to us, really helpful. I'm now simulating a steel joint subjected to impact loading on the brace end. As you know, dynamic property of the steel, such as yield strength, is quite different from that of static. It will be strengthened by the strain rate of the steel associated with velocity. The strain rate needs to follow laws of Cowper -Symonds or Johnson Cook. My question is how to assign the strain rate according to the law of like Cowper-Symonds in ABAQUS? Thanks!!!

    Thanks for making this great video. It helps a lot.
    I got an error when I was using the surface-based contact to simulate the delamination between continuum shell composite model saying that the general contact can be given a property with cohesive or damage. In this video, you solved it by assigning a fake properties. But I tried in Abaqus/standard. It doesn't work, then can you tell me what I can do?

    Maybe someone faced my problem which I could solve it. I used data for amplitude in Load section and I finished everything but when I wanted to submit my job I faced the following error:
    "The local-1 direction (after the additional rotation and permutation) of the material orientation, specified via *ORIENTATION, for element 1 instance COMP-0-1 is normal to the SHELL, MEMBRANE, GASKET, COHESIVE, or SURFACE element. The local 1-direction must be projected onto the element surface. Check input data."
    After searching, I used "assign stack direction" command in mesh section for each layer (before using this command you should click on "part" command on top of mesh section in object command and don't use assembly command ). after clicking on "assign stack direction" choose a part of a layer (for example we had 4 parts for each layer in this tutorial video) then click on the top surface of that part that is brown or near brown surfaces and do this step for each part of layer.

    Thanks for taking your time for such an informative video which is hard to find anywhere else. Really appreciate you for spending so much time. Some comments which would be useful :
    1. Try to mention the video title name when you refer to other videos of yours, as it creates a bit of confusion.
    2. The interaction property you are referring in this video is explained in the 'Modeling with discussion : tensile loading of fiber metal laminates', but it talks only about a layer to layer interaction, and doesnt talk about 0 layer to 90layer, which i think is really important.

    Hi, I tried to model a low velocity impact with the same mesoscale approach you showed in the video but despite I adopted your same approach a compenetration of plies under the impactor occurs. Also very high values of ALLVD and ALLPW resulted...What could be the cause?

    • @SanaanKhan
      @SanaanKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allvd hints you about the viscous dissipation energy. High value compared to internal energy ( more than 1 %) signifies large deformation and hence large value of stabilization to avoid element failure. Allpw is plastic work which is fine if you have large plastic deformation.

    Hi Sanan,
    Here your modelling only one forth (1/4th) of the domain because of symmetry. But while assigning the inertia properties to the tup you entered half (1/2) of the original mass.
    To my understand we have to assign one forth (1/4) of the original mass of the tup. please correct me if i am wrong.

    • @SanaanKhan

      my total mass is 3.132. so 1/4 will be 0.783. that is what I have used.

      Manzar Masud hello manzar. i have tried using solid element for this problem. always get the error 'element missing property definition'. i also read somewhere that hashin damage can only be used with shell element. can u guide me how u used solid elements

    • @manzarmasud1225
      @manzarmasud1225 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. u are right. Hashin can only be used with shell elements. If you want to use hashin with solid elements, u have to write your own user defined subroutine. Hashin will not work with solid elements.

      let me come in. i happen to miss the comments :). for out of plane problem like impact shell elements are not sufficient. they does not have sigma33 tensorial component which is the most dominating in that case. so the difference will be obvious. make your own subroutine. it will be a new learning process. if i got time i will try posing a video on it.

    hi sanan. Thanks for the video. Well i have two questions.
    i. As i do not have the amplitude data , so i have applied the initial velocity as 2.51 m/s. I can not apply the +2.51 m/s and -2.51 m/s on the same step. So please tell me what should i do? As with only 2.51 m/s, my impactor is going in the one side only and not coming back.
    ii. My V3 vs time plot is constant at 2.51 m/s and U3 is also showing a straight line slope which is not correct. RF3 is showing good response.
    If you can comment on above mentioned, I shall be grateful.

    • @SanaanKhan
      @SanaanKhan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manzar Masud go through the whole video. and you will find that it can be done by adding an additional step in the step module.

    • @SanaanKhan
      @SanaanKhan  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manzar Masud moreover, the velocity will remain constant. it is your b.c. so it will. remember that the output is on the r.p. as per the video so it will strictly follow the impactor.

    • @SanaanKhan
      @SanaanKhan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      when you consider plane...shear on that will be in plane like plane 1-2..then shear tau12...and longitudinal means in the fiber direction..i.e if fiber is in1 direction then 12...if fiber in 2 then 23...transverse shear strength tau23 is approx 0.3 times compressive strength of matrix considering 1 as fiber direction.
