    Hello,
    this video is really helpful but I want to read your paper on, from which you get the mat properties, can you please add a link in the description?

    Hello thank you for that great video , i was just wondering why you did not assign any mass to the bullet ?

    • @FEADith
      @FEADith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because its rigid. I guess. And the velocity is directly defined and cobtrolled. So we dont need mass since it is not free falling

    Hi, very interesting and useful video! I think it's possible the error occurring with hashin outputs can be related to the use of the three-dimensional engineering constant material model. The abaqus embedded hashin model is 2D model while the material you adopted has properties in the third direction. To check this, you can try to solve the model by adopting 2D lamina properties instead of eng. constant with hashin criteria and see the error disappear. You can also usa eng. constant and set a different material damage criteria like Max stress damage with BK evolution. To implement a three dimensional hashin criterion in abaqus you need to code a VUMAT subroutine.

    Great work! Thanks for sharing. I have one question:
    How fast is the impact and how can I change the speed?

    • @FEADith
      @FEADith  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      in this case i indent -10 mm during step period of 1 second...
      if you wanna change the speed... just change the time period in the step... for example 0.01 second.. in this case, the speed will be 1000 mm/s..

    • @RidgeRiderPorta
      @RidgeRiderPorta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FEADith Thanks for the quick answer!
      I have another question:
      Why do you give the impact a displacement?
      How is this relevant in practice? Shouldn't the impactor be given a speed and then lose energy from the impact and then stop?
      If a displacement is given, then the energy of the impactor must increase during the impact to achieve the displacement!

    • @FEADith
      @FEADith  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RidgeRiderPorta nice comment Luca.. this does not really impact test.. it is called quasi-static indentation.. so you control the displacement and indent it.
      but you are right.. in low-velocity impact test, you set the initial velocity and mass of impactor.. and it impacts the plate and the impactor lose energy due to energy absorption in the plate.
      but all processes are the same, just the way you give loading conditions. instead of using prescribed displacement, use initial velocity.

    • @FEADith
      @FEADith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Residual velocity is for the case the bullet penetrate though the plate and still moving such as bullet impact.. then its is easy to measure residual velocity from field output > velocity > choose a node in the impactor.
