    Kaleidescape receives the master file directly from the studio . Kaleidescape creates their Kscape version from that master file. That is why the player costs so much. The hardware and software are relatively inexpensive.
    KALEIDESCAPE then gets to decide on the file size. All data for 4K discs is compressed onto a disc. Lot of compression going on , whereas Kaleidescape is using the master file for their version of the movie.
    Let me give you some real-world examples:
    Disney’s physical Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 4K release comes on a 66 GB disc. The Kaleidescape 4K download is 80.8 GB. Disney’s Avengers: Infinity War 4K comes on a 66 GB disc. The Kaleidescape 4K download is 86.3 GB. And Disney’s Avengers: Endgame 4K comes on a 66 GB disc. The Kaleidescape 4K download is a whopping 103.3 GB!
    That difference in data files equates to audible differences. The video differences are noticeable but not as noticeable in my experience as the audio differences. The KSCAPE audio is more dynamic, punchy with much more impactful low end frequency effects IMHO.

      You’d need to ask a studio for that directly and they aren’t selling it to you for anything you can afford. Secondly the sheer size of that file wouldn’t be worth the minimal increase in quality from KScape to full master because their compression is already lossless.

    • @kellenfleener
      @kellenfleener ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes and no. Some movies actually playback at a higher bitrate than Plex/ 4K Blu-ray’s. Plus you don’t have to put any nearly the man hours of ripping all the discs.

      More bits of data from Kaleidescape than from your rip from a 4K disc , since the data is being compressed onto the disc. Would most people notice the audio and video differences on most content, probably not. This is for $50K and up theaters IMHO. It has the best user interface and the highest quality audio and video. Each person has to decide for them whether the price is worth it. If this product was $2K-$3K no one would be arguing the value at all. The price tag is what makes the product so divisive not the performance. The performance is unquestionable. Kaleidescape firmware update recently allowed for select blu ray ripping devices to be connected to add your existing bluray collection to your Kaleidescape catalog at a fraction of the cost since you already own the movie. There is also the ability to upgrade to 4K as well if that movie is available on 4k. This video will get plenty of comments about how the product isn't worth it. I don't know of any Kaleidescape owners who feel that way. Is there some confirmation bias?😂 Sure but it doesn't change the fact that the product is the best way to experience movies at home. Is this a " I won the lottery, let's do it" product for most people yes. I have experienced Kaleidescape in person. I wish I hadn't 😂😅 . It cannot be unheard or unseen😂😅. At $3K it would be a no brainer. But it wouldn't be available if the price were that low because the studios wouldn't give the master files of each movie for low prices. Don't be mad at Kaleidescape that it costs so much. Be mad at the media companies such as the Mouse AKA Disney, for requiring so much for the master files. The hardware isn't expensive, it is the HDMI licensing fees and the media licensing fees that makes this product so expensive.

      The simplest answer is, it is expensive to do. Hence the cost K charges upfront for the proprietary hardware. I have an Apple TV4K and while it’s great, there is no question that the same equivalent movie on K is far superior, especially on the audio side. People will do screen shots of video comparisons between ATV4K, Netflix etc, Blu-ray, and K but, the real comparison is seeing the bitrate of the movie while playing, it’s beyond smooth. Now, this isn’t for the person that spent 10K or so on their home theater, this in my opinion is for someone with a highly revealing system, source is definitely important but you need the gear to show case it.

    It’s a non-starter for me without Dolby Vision/HDR10+ HDR. It’s bizarre that they bother to exclude it when it’s likely on the master file they receive. They could’ve had their hardware just ignore it for those with projectors incapable of displaying it. As HDR TVs become larger and people skip projectors, they’re going to have to do it. Should’ve done it sooner rather than later.

      Couldn’t agree more. There are simply too many other media players on the market that support MKV, M2TS, BDMV and reasonably good ISO playback for a fraction of the cost. Yes, you need the storage to back up your physical media, and yes it requires a little know-how (and a non-trivial investment of time). The UI and overall product are definitely good, but very few people are going to make the kind of investment Kaleidescape requires, and that’s coming from someone with over $20k invested in a full Atmos surround sound setup, not including the video side of things. It just doesn’t make sense, at least to me, unless you’re running a fully dedicated home theater that runs into the six figures; even then, it’s an awful lot of money.

    Sorry Zack it is not honest if you don't tell the bad parts, especially the costs. Its not just the player but the storage that is really expensive and with the file sizes you burn up a lot of storage. If I won the lotto sure I would look into it other then that it is a product only for a few.

    Every advocate for this device argues that the Kscape serves better quality audio and video. Their arguement is that the Kscape allows you to download uncompressed master files. My question is this. Even if there is a noticable difference in quality, what is it about the hardware that contributes to increase in quality? It seems to me that if you were to play the same file using kodi you would experience the same upgrade in quality. What is so special about the hardware that warrants this price tag?

    • @stevewright1539
      @stevewright1539 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original post here was correct but also the scam. K-Scape admits that the hardware being sold is not reflective of the price. They are not offering any technology that is better than what you can get from either a NAS or a player like Zidoo or Zappiti. The entry price pays the salaries of the company to encode a movie. Ever rip a disc to mkv and choose a file size? Not much different than what you are getting here. Keep the data size a little bigger than disc and use that to justify a claim of superior quality. Ever see a side by side comparison of disc vs K-scape? Either have I! Look, this is actually a really good product. The service would easily be accepted as a reasonable alternative to physical media IF the company was seeing any kind of return on movie sales. They aren’t. This makes the business model unsustainable.

    What I don't like about Kaleidescape is their lack of vision and/or lack of negotiation power with studios. Yes, they profit A LOT from the hardware but the business could be 1000x bigger if they ditched this model and supported any hardware and made the software available world wide! The hardware should be an option not the only solution. But I guess that's the level of BS we can expect from the media business and solutions around it.

    • @Declanhale24
      @Declanhale24 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole point of the hardware is that it stores the master files from the studio, the "Tera" server is there to store all those things and give you better movie quality. If they streamed this same quality to everyone then it would get so compressed due to the amount of people using the same files you wouldn't be able to tell a difference defeating the point of Kaldescape

    • @Bosworth123
      @Bosworth123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Declanhale24How is the Terra any different than a NAS or any other hard drive? People who buy these things have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. If you were able to pay x amount of money and get this os on your own server that would be nice. the ability to get this type of service, without the BS of needing to use their proprietary systems would make this thing work for so many more people, especially the ability to be able to buy and download content right from the masters. Nothing would get compressed as its a digital download, so in which case if you owned this system you would be getting a copy of the original masters, same way anyone else would
