+jimmy fabs That I could be such a dork:). A dork who can play drums and guitar as well as sing and who was in a band can't remember the name ah Nivena? :) The guy is super talented and he enjoys his fame but not in an obnoxious way.
to those haters they should know that Dave sang back up vocals on some tracks but loved the drums and Nirvana and his bandmates and he went on to be a full time singer and guitarist because his true calling and to honor Kurt cobain
There's something so beautiful about this. Dave is extremely charismatic in this performance. He gives enough life to everyone in the audience to just smile, even though it's only an acoustic talk show performance. It's not that he did a fantastic job vocally or instrumentally, or a terrible one, it's about a man, a guitar, and an audience. When I watch this, I see people just being people, and celebrating life as it is now. It makes me almost cry every time I watch. thanks Dave ;)
I was thinking almost the opposite. He "skipped the crap" to get to the chorus, he told people to join in and he didn't do a particularly good job of singing it. I thought he butchered the song and the audience participation was contrived. Someone unassumingly covering this song and doing such a good job it moves people to sing along, that would be worth celebrating.
So many depressed defensive people in the comments. Dave Grohl has an extremely high respect for other musicians, and this cover was not meant to bash on Elton John Or to disrespect his music. He knows he can't hit all of the notes, and I'm sure if he cared he would have chose another song. This is just Dave going out on stage and having a little fun.
Talk about reinventing himself. The guy came out of one he'll of a situation to become what I fear will be the last of the true Rock an Roll stars. God bless you Dave.

Dave Grohl's cover was a joke. why do you think he was talking to the crowd the entire time. This cover wasn't supposed to be serious good god. no one understands that! he was laughing through half of it.
What Grohl seems to do here is acknowledge both the pop-corniness and the true beauty of the song simultaneously. One can tell, watching this, that Grohl honestly regards the song to be great, despite what he sees as the absurd length of the verses relative to the chorus. He successfully pays homage to the song without a shred of a hint of taking himself too seriously. His talented performance is both funny and sincere, draped with a nonchalant coolness that is hard to replicate. This is likely the greatest performance of this song to which I have ever borne witness.
Just finished his book; The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music. He takes himself to seriously, considers himself a dork and a nerd. He's always humbled by the music greats - read the book, the ups and downs, tears and laughs, a fantastic read, what a lovely guy 🙂
Sometimes it's not about the voice, but instead about the attitude. And as you can see the crowd is having fun and in the end that's what matter's. Gotta love him.

I adore his way of talking to the crowd. I think the gum (which everyone is annoyed with- except me!) is to keep his energy level at bay. He's usually jumping around on stage!! He's incredible. Always. :) just more talented that he can do all this AND chew gum!! Love it!
i love how he said he wanted to "capture that magic" from Almost Famous..love that scene and anyone who is a fan of 70s rock n roll should watch that movie its great
Dave was hoping the audience would sing along and was looking to have fun. He wasn't doing a serious solo performance. If you doubt his vocal talent as a live solo artist then watch his acoustic solo of Walk and The Pretender. Incredible.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Foo open with an acoustic set for Bob Dylan at the X in St. Paul MN in '06 and it is still to this day the best overall live performance I have ever witnessed. I'm not even that big on the FF but Grohl is a natural performer, not just with the music but his entire act. You can tell how hard he has worked to become a polished storyteller, musician and comedian all rolled into one. Bob Dylan didn't stand a chance. While the Eagles are the best band I've ever heard from a Live vs. album standpoint, Dave is my favorite complete live performer. Interesting to think about where he would be with everything had Kurt not passed. Keep on rocking Mr Grohl!

I adore your version of this song Dave Grohl. As a long time fan, I have always admired the feeling in your voice. I bought The Colour and the Shape album when I was about 15 and used to spend hours analysing the lyrics of your songs. I have been to see you live in Auckland, New Zealand. I also loved the green liney lights and liquid nitrogen you used during the unplugged version of Everlong. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world. We love your work. I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but may I please quote this cover in an artwork I'm creating? At this stage it may be a static image or perhaps a story told by animation with this song as the background - or only a portion of the song, or name dropping, whichever you give permission for. I have tonnes of ideas and need to discipline myself to be concise ... PLEASE LIKE so Dave Grohl can inspire me to do my best ever art!
In terms of impact & influence... Nirvana was the Beatles for Generation X, Red Hot Chili Peppers are our Stones, Pearl Jam was "the Who" Radiohead was is our Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains is our Black Sabbath & Soundgarden is our Led Zeppelin...... Kurt is our John Lennon & Dave Grohl is our Paul McCartney... Long Live Generation X
serious question, why do people like Frusciante? RHCP are great and all, but they're guitar isn't that central to the band if u ask me. Just seems like people freak out over John cuz he's the guitarist of a band they really like but don't have an objective reason to why. What about him is soooooo good that Rolling Stone rated him higher in greatest guitarist of all time over so many more influential players?
Nicholas van Tol his a brilliant guitarist, he improvisations during songs are sweet. Don't get me wrong his not the most technical guitarist but he has so much funk it's untrue .
Idk bout funk dude, you want REAL funk ur talkin bands like the meters, the JB's and Sly Stone, RHCP and this frusciante borrow a lot of funk elements but they're hardly part of that genre, i really enjoy technical playing to an extent so maybe his improv is justBased on taste
Nicholas van Tol I personally think there's huge funk elements in a lot of John's playing style , I also wouldn't say they are "funk" . I Can understand why people think his not that good , but I personally think he deserves to be where he his today.
I'm not saying he's not good, he's a talented artist overall (making music in general) but his musician-ship I'd say is lacking for the podium he's put on
Years ago, during drunk karaoke I improvised "Hold me closer, Tina Yothers!" Probably the booze, but it made several people spew beer on the heads of the person in front of 'em. So funny I almost didn't make it through the song. To this day, when I hear that song I think of Family Ties.

I love it when idiots can't appreciate musical sarcasm. And you know what most people who do musical sarcasm, purposely destroy the song by not singing it right and just making a spoof of a song, this was the mildest spoof I have ever seen plus Dave does whatever the hell he wants and he's always cool as a cucumber.
What does being a guy have to go with him having "An absolutely beautiful voice"??? Which he does... But, it doesn't change anything about you. Because you gave credit, where credit is deserved.
I've always really loved Dave's sense of humor. He is the coolest dork that ever lived.

+K6III450MHZ AND he can chew gum at the same time! i love that is he just unapologetic ally himself and dorky and geeky!
Yes, and he has to chew the gum, because his throat gets dry when we sings. I always wondered why he chewed it.
to those haters they should know that Dave sang back up vocals on some tracks but loved the drums and Nirvana and his bandmates and he went on to be a full time singer and guitarist because his true calling and to honor Kurt cobain
Love. Dave. :D
Dave Grohl’s personality is part of the whole package that makes him so likeable!
It's crazy what became of Dave once Nirvana faded away. Thank God he's one of the ones who made it out of 90's alright. We miss those who didn't
He killed Kurt, 100%

You need to see him and Taylor cover Stairway, kills me every time… and that’s me watching by it after this
Dave grohl is a genuine dude. Hope to meet him one day and just say, "Thanks."
As much as I adore the Foo Fighters, I would love to see Dave do a live solo acoustic cover album. This and Stairway To Heaven are extravagant!
You should have seen the FF acoustic tour 15 or so years ago.
Dave Grohl leaves a chemtrail of cool wherever he goes.

Most aggressively that song has ever been sung. It's fascinating.
It's quite high for a male vocal, especially not opera-trained :P In the original Elton has to use falsetto to reach it.
Listen to John Frusciante sing it
Have ever heard john frusciante's?
Listen to John frusciante
Nah John fruiscante man he did it was better twice
You've worked very hard dave.. Now you are a legend!!! started a band from zero, never sing a song of nirvana, because you respect kurt!!

He might not have the greatest voice, but he puts his whole heart into his performance. Passion, man, passion.

he is the drummer from nirvana
Crash Corpse Yeah man this guy's great but that drummer from Nirvana is a right pratt lol.
I've always felt that the drummer from Them Crooked Vultures is better
But they both aren't a match for Beelzeboss
Edgar Cruz nah the one drummer from Queens Of The Stone Age for that one song forgot it was way better
the singer from foo fighters is a good drummer

Is chewing gum part of his singing act usually? I thought this was too flippant and weak. I have less respect for him now.
Dexter Haven
He always chews gum when he plays.
Cade Bengert I only asked about his singing, silly, not "when he plays." I know he plays drums sometimes and does not sing during it.
He chews it when he sings too. There is a running joke that he has been chew the same piece since Nirvana.
I am very sorry but 4ths don't exist it is quarters not fourths so 3/4 not 3/4th

Dave acting like he’s to cool to have ever heard tiny dancer before that movie scene.
