Interesting to note the landing gear oleo scissors face forward on the Avenger. Typically the scissors face aft. Thought that was an oversight on the part of the manufacturer, but nope! That's the way they face. From an engineering pov, the scissors facing aft would be protected somewhat from debris by the oleo and strut. Not sure why the design decision to place the scissors in front of the oleo where they would be more exposed to debris and fowling.
That's so cool! The "Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger" is my favorite American aircraft introduced during WW2.

The thing on the wing is called a slot. It doesn't move. If they extend and retract, they are called slats. Very cool model!
It is a fixed slat.
