Hungry Ghost Festival is not even a Buddhist festival. Stop corrupting buddhism with other superstitions.

The tradition traces back to Maudgalyayana's mother appealing to him after death, to help his mother liberate from the Preta (Hungry Ghost) realm Maudgalyayana consulted Buddha Shakyamuni for means to help.
there is related prayers during the lunar 7th month.
So this festival itself is of Buddhist origin.

Main traditions in Singapore there is the traditional 7th month prayer that is more of a local tradition.
that sees mixing taoist rituals of burning paper money. Those are not really traditional Buddhist practices.
Then there is Siang Theon (Teochew traditions) that does prayers with Ksitigabha Bodhisattva (地藏王菩萨)
There is also chanting of Ksitigabha Sutra for Ksitigabha Puja (地藏法会)
      throughout most Chinese Mahayana temples
And there is Hayagriva Puja (马头明王法会) for Tibetan Buddhist centers
