+J. Craig Anderson It's really sad to see the japanese devs from 80s/90s agonizing nowadays. I miss the "colourful" diversity of games we had. PS2 was the last console to have such variety with quality.
it's not konami's fault. they'd still be developing games like rondo of blood if the videogame market hadn't degenerated into a 3D obsessed, hyper-realistic open world swamp of generic western-developed crap. the majority of active gamers was born post-playstation takeover in the late 90s; they don't know any better.
vozone nope, it totally is their fault, don't act like it isn't, financially successful games are still being released without having to rely on micro transactions and konami still chose to release a grindy buggy mess of a game based on one of their most beloved franchises, and when _that_ didn't work they ended up selling castlevania pachinko machines to casinos, meaning the only thing keeping konami afloat is pachinko machines and yu-gi-oh booster pack sales; Also the videogame market isn't a "3d obsessed hyper realistic open world swamp of generic western-developed crap", I don't even know where you got that idea from, either you're misinformed or your nostalgia is blinding you from seeing all the good games released each year, also, I've read a few articles and it actually seems like most gamers were born in the pre-psx days. So yeah, overall pretty awful comment, infinitesimal/10, would rather pour bleach in my eyes than read this again
I never noticed it before, but Maria's pets are small, cute versions of the 4 symbols of Chinese Astronomy. There is Suzaku the Firebird, Genbu the Earth Turtle, Seiryu the Water Dragon and Byakko the White Tiger of Air.
More like: Genbuu, The Black Tortoise of the North (Water) Seiryuu, The Azure Dragon of the East (Wood) Suzakku, The Vermilion Bird of the South (Fire) Byakko, The White Tiger of the West (Metal) Also, there's Maria's "Guardian Knuckle" attack, which represents the idea of the Golden Quilin at the Center of the Earth being connected to humanity where the other four represent the four types of animal natures (shell, scale, feather, fur respectively). Yes, future games that feature the quartette would go on to attribute different, more RPG-practical elemental properties to them such as the ones you describe, but at core it should bear remembrance that the elemental system of the Chinese Wu Xing is fundamentally different from the one widely popularized by Western Alchemy. ...... Yeah, you must forgive me. I'm kind of a total metaphysics nut... ^_^"
Tuve el honor de poder jugar esta joya en mi pc, disfrute de su historia y sus personajes horas a diario al igual como no acordarme de su intro y la canción "Overture" sin duda ya no hay juegos como este que dejaron su huella. :')
Really appreciate it when a YT channel uses the proper game title! ❤🙏 Imported this game in mid 90s for around $130 from a company advertising out of GameFan Magazine.
This was one of the best walkthroughs I've seen, thank you for the meticulous versions through the sue of different characters to reveal such an underrated game to me
Maria, can't take much damage, but is a little ball of fire locomotive, running over every undead thing in her path of destruction. I love playing as her, especially after I got tired of using Richter, even her ending theme is catchy as all hell. I remember salivating over screenshots of this game back in the day in Gamepro, they said at that time the game would never come to the states, and they were mostly right, but could not see the future. I never thought I'd ever get to play this game, but good things come to those who wait....about 10-12 years and through emulation first (I still have a burned copy on disc somewhere, but no longer rely on it).
This game is so much better then the new castlevanias. The new ones seem like exercises in how to reuse as many old resources as possible. This game feels like it has deliberation and thought and vision put into it. It has character.
I used to love playing Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse as a kid. I would play it for hours on end, I loved it! And to think, this game came out just two years later! Wish I had known about this one, I would have been enthralled! They don't make games like this anymore. So imaginative, detailed and fun! :D
Not a chance in hell. Super Castlevania IV for SNES and SOTN on PSX are a completely different animal. The sound quality and graphics, when compared to the SNES simply do not compare. Konami really screwed up when they didn't make a carbon copy of Chi no Rondo on the Super Famicom.
I've been watching your videos on and off all week man and I gotta tell you, YOU ARE A GOD! Thanks for these by the way, Strangely entertaining. Thanks!
The beginning is german. Says something like: "In the good old times, the people lived in peace. No one believed that in the future a threat would be coming." But my german's not that great.
Don't let the cheesy intro fool you; the gameplay and stage progression are awesome. This specific PCE version of the game was the bridge between Super Castlevania IV and Symphony of the Night.
By the bridge between IV and SOTN, I assume he meant gameplay wise, not chronologically. Also, this game's intro is spectacular, really sets the mood for the game.
You were completely masterful in this game 3 hours of non-stop game play and you didn't even die once no one is that good in any video game I don't care how long you've had it how old it is or how many times you've finished it it's almost like you was one of the programmers of this game and knew exactly where everything was is your name in the credits?(Ha,Ha ha)but seriously the best 3 hours I've ever spent in my life I had to go back and play Castlevania Symphony of the Night on my Sega Saturn.
Would love for the Bloodstained team to make another game in this or Castlevania 4 style as they did with Castlevania 3. Rondo of Blood perfected the stage by stage style by making it so expansive
We all can dream of. But i doubt this will ever happen again. Many Former Konami Devs are not at 505 Games as they were very unhappy how Konami did thread them. Most Prominent was Hideo Kojima which was known for the Metal Gear Series.
this is what I call a Super Castlevania compared to the NES (with all due respect) it is as if Konami is saying: This is what we wished we did in the NES but unfortunately was not possible on the mighty NES. And for a 2D game, it does not need to get any better than this, imo, although the NEO GEO was the pinnacle of 2D gaming and pixel art altogether.
Marcel Weber Oh yeah! but I was just talking about it's 2D abilities or capabilities. Metal Slug, Magician lord and Blue's Journey were some that weren't fighters though
Aloan Moreira 2D-wise the Neo Geo wan't that good, it's hardly as powerful as a CPS-2 and just a joke compared to stuff like CPS-3. For the time it was fairly decen't though.
If I recall, I posted up a comment about just how bad Maria's singing was, before this vid was pulled off TH-cam. Glad it's back up. And, if it's any indication, I should be hearing her use that lullaby of hers to put a certain bird to sleep - PERMANENTLY. ^_^;;
It was also on the original Wii VC, that and the PSP are two ways I own this game (I never touched the remake after beating it, but the original I go back to now and again).
early 90s was all about the headbanded hard-training male protagonist with boiling blood Then around late 90s, the game has changed to bad-boi metrosexual guys
It's a shame that the PC Engine didn't have the capability to generate the same number of layers as the SNES. That's the one thing I notice with this game when compared to other 16-bit releases such as Super Castlevania IV. The CD quality music definitely helps give it a unique edge.
Translation, German Imperialists, and Vampiric rides. Oh and the Church too. But never mind that, why isn’t the transcripts and drawings written in Latin! This is the best language but either way non-fitting for this game or series. Th-Whack!
I haven't played every Mega Drive and PC Engine game but so far this game is my 3rd best game of all time behind Strider for the Mega Drive (my favorite game of all time) and Castlevania Bloodlines for the Mega Drive (Has a more arcade feel to me than Rondo and also looks better in my opinion when comparing both in RGB and the Mega Drive Bloodlines I enjoy coming back to and playing more than Rondo of Blood). Rondo is still great and like I said the 3rd best game of all time IMO. Im really big into the 16 Bit era and the Arcade experience at that time.
This game is prime! Super Metroid, and this game, but this game very underrated! just look at amount of hidden levels, amazing graphics (even Anime FMV'S) not to metion music and gameplay features!
This game has more Easter 🐣 eggs 🥚than the Easter Bunny 🐰 himself!!! I paid a fortune for this game, including another for the NEC PC Engine console, back when I was 20, and single. It was well worth it!!! I enjoyed all the US HuCard games that I bought second hand for it. This whole system and game was my show and tell. My friends were like; “WTF??!! What is that??!! ...and how come I ain’t ever seen this b4??? Dude this Dracula X game rocks!!” I still have the system, but she needs a capacitor overhaul. I’m gonna send it to a gaming console pro, when I get some $$$$.
PC Engine Core Grafx consoles work perfectly in the US with a Genesis Model 1 power supply and A/V cables. The older PC Engines use the same power supply, but have only RF output. 3rd party replacement Genesis accessories are cheap. HuCards are really small, and cheap to import. So, what's stopping you?
Why? Dracula has to be brought back by blood sacrifice, like in the Hammer movies. The intro to Castlevania Chronicles is similar. Shaft rips the heart out of some poor soul in front of a huge pentagram! All that was missing was Slayer Raining Blood 😆
It becomes less disturbing, when you're fluent in german. For one specific line: "Er schlürft das Blut von jungen Frauen." More specifical, it's the word "schlürft (schlürfen)", that cracks me up every time. Dracula slurps the blood of women. The PSP-Remake thankfully replaced "er schlürft" with "er trinkt". Making the lien far less silly.
Only Nintendo failed in trying to get into the CD tendencie. , This is the second game I see from PC Engine and now I want to discover more, it's amazing.
@MrVolksbeetle Most PC Engine game developers had a much lower budget to work with than the SNES game developers, with an exception of mega-companies like Konami and Hudson. That's why the PC Engine games developed by Konami or Hudson, especially the CD ones, look just as good or maybe even better than the SNES games. However, If I had to pick my favorite PC Engine game developer, I'd choose Naxat, since they created some really impressive looking games in spite of being such a tiny company.
In my opinion..... Still best action platformer Castlevania ever made. 2:04:02 Love this stage song so much! Only Castlevania Symphony of the night for Ps1 is better.
She's even more OP in the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night. She's downright broken in that game, so Konami rebalanced her for the PSP version on Drac X Chronicles (an unlockable).
That little blond girl is far tougher than she looks. Can't take much of a beating, but the damage she dishes out, and her ability to slide out of danger via temper tantrum, prove to be quite invaluable.
So a group of armoured men sacrifice an innocent girl to revive Count Dracula, and then Richter Belmont has to kill him and save the kidnapped girls? That's the plot they went with for this... Also, the Grim Reaper himself came up to Belmont, who was on the way to the burning city on the carriage, just to taunt him.
I always thought the addition of Maria was weird until I saw more of the pc engine game library, seems unless you had an anime girl in your game no one would buy it.
Imagine if nec would have licensed this game in america and had it included with the turbografx as a pack in game. It would have sold millions of turbo graphics systems!!
I don't get the hype around this game. I mean, this is one of my favourite Castlevania games I've ever played, and it's really awesome and I can't explain, why I love this game so much. I can explain, why I love Syphony of the Night, but this game is... maybe it's just simply awesome!
if this is the pce of rondo of blood. then i must say that ,m suprised & impressed, despites the missing thing in the snes version, the pce graphics looks like updated nes graphics, besides the astounding cd quality music it even contains fm music.
The company that brought you this masterpiece is now going to focus on pachinko games and slot machines. Thanks a lot, Konami.
+J. Craig Anderson It's really sad to see the japanese devs from 80s/90s agonizing nowadays. I miss the "colourful" diversity of games we had. PS2 was the last console to have such variety with quality.
I still prefer PS2 over PS4
it's not konami's fault. they'd still be developing games like rondo of blood if the videogame market hadn't degenerated into a 3D obsessed, hyper-realistic open world swamp of generic western-developed crap. the majority of active gamers was born post-playstation takeover in the late 90s; they don't know any better.
don't forget they're also making games for mobile and they look terrible
vozone nope, it totally is their fault, don't act like it isn't, financially successful games are still being released without having to rely on micro transactions and konami still chose to release a grindy buggy mess of a game based on one of their most beloved franchises, and when _that_ didn't work they ended up selling castlevania pachinko machines to casinos, meaning the only thing keeping konami afloat is pachinko machines and yu-gi-oh booster pack sales;

2016, and this game doesn't get old. I just love everything about it so much. The cheesy anime cutscenes have a special place in my heart.
I never noticed it before, but Maria's pets are small, cute versions of the 4 symbols of Chinese Astronomy. There is Suzaku the Firebird, Genbu the Earth Turtle, Seiryu the Water Dragon and Byakko the White Tiger of Air.
Close, but wrong on the elementals.
Wind of Air Fart
More like:
Genbuu, The Black Tortoise of the North (Water)
Seiryuu, The Azure Dragon of the East (Wood)
Suzakku, The Vermilion Bird of the South (Fire)
Byakko, The White Tiger of the West (Metal)
Also, there's Maria's "Guardian Knuckle" attack, which represents the idea of the Golden Quilin at the Center of the Earth being connected to humanity where the other four represent the four types of animal natures (shell, scale, feather, fur respectively).

...... Yeah, you must forgive me. I'm kind of a total metaphysics nut... ^_^"
this is easily one of the top 3 castlevania games IMO.
I would say it has the best music for a castlevania game which also puts it in my top 3 as well
castlevania games will always have a soft spot in my heart 🥰
Mine too!
43:25 That was close. One pixel further and...
He wouldn't have died still.
Tuve el honor de poder jugar esta joya en mi pc,

:')
Jesus that intro music alone is infectious.
Maria is so hardcore and just doesn't give a feather. 12-year-old girl and her pet cat just dunks on Dracula like it's nothing. I love it
Logan Stromberg she's even more OP in SOTN.
Yeah I guess you get better with age unless you're playing the PSP version on the Dracula X Chronicles
Wow, she acts like she's 7 or 8, though!
She’s 12. Blame Japan!
Really appreciate it when a YT channel uses the proper game title! ❤🙏 Imported this game in mid 90s for around $130 from a company advertising out of GameFan Magazine.
Awesome advertising.
love the music. its a shame this console didnt make the money they deserved to make
+Luiz Almeida In japan it did well enough.
From this to pachinko games and _eFootball_ in 2021. How the mighty have fallen...
This was one of the best walkthroughs I've seen, thank you for the meticulous versions through the sue of different characters to reveal such an underrated game to me
Akumajo Dracula x is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING
Maria, can't take much damage, but is a little ball of fire locomotive, running over every undead thing in her path of destruction. I love playing as her, especially after I got tired of using Richter, even her ending theme is catchy as all hell.

Probably One of the best Games for the PC-E right up there with Ys Books I & II
Yes!
You call this gameplay?
I call it a movie!
Great! 5 stars!
I used to love playing Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse as a kid. I would play it for hours on end, I loved it! And to think, this game came out just two years later! One of the best Castlevania games ever.
Absolut Top Hut ab ....habe jetzt schon viele longplays von dir gesehen ....du kannst ja echt jedes Spiel perfekt!
best castlevania and one of the best games ever made
Not a chance in hell. Super Castlevania IV for SNES and SOTN on PSX are a completely different animal. The sound quality and graphics, when compared to the SNES simply do not compare.
Konami really screwed up when they didn't make a carbon copy of Chi no Rondo on the Super Famicom.
@@XX2Media From a pure gameplay and level design standpoint, Rondo surpasses both those games.
Easily the eeriest 'Castlevania' ever made. And it has the best soundtrack of the series hands down.
Norio Wakamoto as Dracula...just perfect.
He wasn't Dracula in this one, he was in Symphony of the Night in Japan though.
Akumajo Dracula X chi - no rondo is legendary with Spectacular graphics
This game is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

"In the good old times, the people lived in peace. No one believed that in the future a threat would be coming." But my german's not that great.
Wow, I didn't know the game had this many different stages. It was like watching a different game.
yeah - I thought I got a different CD or something! that back alley passage is an alternate reality with it’s own set of bosses for half the game!
Don't let the cheesy intro fool you; the gameplay and stage progression are awesome. This specific PCE version of the game was the bridge between Super Castlevania IV and Symphony of the Night.
Actually this game is a bridge between Dracula's Curse and Symphony of the Night. Super Castlevania IV was just a remake of Castlevania 1(NES).
+moviemetalhead Well...shit. :)
+Eight Virtues :) So in other words this IS Castlevania IV. I love how this series ties together.
Are you talking about the wrong Hucard screen? The real intro to the game isn't until the German introduction.
By the bridge between IV and SOTN, I assume he meant gameplay wise, not chronologically. Also, this game's intro is spectacular, really sets the mood for the game.
14:55 Stylish, Richter. SO STYLISH!

This is an absolutely beautiful game. Every aspect of it.
Damn back when the word "Game Play" actually meant something.
This is clearly one of the best games ever
This game was also on the PSP as part of it's remake: Castlevania - The Dracula X Chronicles, and on PS4 as part of Castlevania - Requiem.
It was also on the original Wii VC, that and the PSP are two ways I own this game (I never touched the remake after beating it, but the original I go back to now and again).
I appreciate the hitting of most of the candles in this video.
this ghost ship level theme is so freakin awesome
grzesiekromcio My favorite stage.
Best Castlevania ever made.
The insert name sound effect really sounds like opening a door in super metroid!
6:46 - Holy crops, I just noticed. Isn't that one of the villages from Castlevania 2?
Yep Simon Belmont's home is destroyed and his descendant Richter Belmont will avenge his home.
@ThePrettyfreaky The first 1.5 minutes is a secret minigame that shows up when you play the game with a System Card 1 instead of 3.
why does richter look like RYU?
Because that's how he looks. Better question: why does Symphony of the Night's Richter appear to be a bishonen?
early 90s was all about the headbanded hard-training male protagonist with boiling blood
Then around late 90s, the game has changed to bad-boi metrosexual guys
1:05:46
You would think that giant cross would drive away all monsters and demons from that area.
14:57 Rihta Belmondo, Vampaia Hanta.
Maria's ending it's fun XD, I can't believe how a girl with a cat, a bird a turtle and a fun dragon can beat to Dracula and all his army XD XD XD
It's fun how they put "cut scene" and make protagonists absolutly differents from the game xD
Dracula: Help! I'm getting my ass kicked by a cute little girl!
And she's giving you the bird 🤣🤣🤣
Who knew Gowan was a Belmont? Nice longplay as usual, gang.
Ryu belmont !!!
Leandro Rosa and I think his theme song (the version from this game) would totally fit into a Street Fighter game.
Amazing playthrough! 🥃🥃
Very good gameplay. Love the way you use Richter's backflip :)
Great run, but holy savestates batman!
Dude you are an awesom player! ''RESPECT''
this one of the best games of all time imo.
It's a shame that the PC Engine didn't have the capability to generate the same number of layers as the SNES. That's the one thing I notice with this game when compared to other 16-bit releases such as Super Castlevania IV. The CD quality music definitely helps give it a unique edge.
i'm not sure why the language they use is German. It should be Romanian or Hungarian.
Not sure why the rest is in Jappo. Should be Romanian or Hungarian.
One of the best memories of my youth!
castlevania 1, 2, 3, Super castlevania 4, Blood lines, Rondo of blood. the best Castlevania games ever in my opinion.

The enemy around 24:10 was reused in Harmony of Dissonance.
*Play the Super Nintendo Dracula X too people the music is just as amazing CD music off a nice cartridge!* ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Indeed, the SNES soundcard was put to excellent use for that version of the game.
The little girl lecturing Dracula was pretty badass
Maria Renard.
Worth playing for the music alone.
In Castlevania Lore... this is the MOST POWERFUL Belmont that ever lived....
most powerful for his time
cause Julius is also said to be most powerful and may be most powerful of all time
Wrong. Every Belmont descendant becomes stronger than his predecessors, so Richter would be the second strongest. The strongest is Julius.
God the music in this game kicks so much ass
The intro for this game is DISTURBING as heck.
Why? Dracula has to be brought back by blood sacrifice, like in the Hammer movies.
The intro to Castlevania Chronicles is similar. Shaft rips the heart out of some poor soul in front of a huge pentagram! All that was missing was Slayer Raining Blood 😆

Juego que comenzó los gráficos que se usaron en posteriores entregas hasta el harmony of dispair
how are the candles just floting mid air in the ship stage?
awesome gameplay!
Couldn´t agree more.
2:16:00 And there goes Maria's Lullaby. Rest in pieces, you silly bird. ^_~
Hum, I never noticed it, but *Death and Dr Weil from Megaman Zero* share the same voice actor???? Awesome!!!
I wonder, what was the funny joke that Dracula heard that morning...
Castlevanias are masterpieces of gaming... no more to say.
Good longplay video for a great game !
Who knew throwing birds at monsters could have such an effect?
This is the moment you've waited for.
14:53
In my opinion.....
Still best action platformer Castlevania ever made. 2:04:02 Love this stage song so much!
Only Castlevania Symphony of the night for Ps1 is better.
+RpgmaniacNo1
Symphony of the night was the sequel of Rondo of Blood, and was made by the same team for next gen console.
Maria is so OP.
She's even more OP in the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night. She's downright broken in that game, so Konami rebalanced her for the PSP version on Drac X Chronicles (an unlockable).
I want to walk into a room, yell "HYDRO STAR!!!" and make it rain like Richter
Man, I wish I could Item Crash...
Dracula: I am one of the most power creatures to ever roam the earth.
Gets bat by little blonde hair girl wearing a dress and her cat.

I knew this was a classic soon as I saw Richter re-visit the town from Simon's Quest.

Basslevania: Dracula Bass: Rando of Bass
