  • This video is replacing the tach and speedo mounting rubber, clutch and front brake lever, plus installing the battery and checking all the electrical system and lights. Only one burnt out bulb.... even the horn works!
I want to get the bike 100% road worthy first, then I can make sure it has no other issues I need to address, before tarring it apart for a total restoration.
I got the 1974 Michigan cycle license plate to register to it. It's all insured, so as soon as I get the registration in the mail, I'll take it out on the road for a nice test ride. The few times I have started it, one kick and it's running! I think this bike is in way better condition than I thought when I first looked at it. A bit of cleaning, polishing and some paint work, it will be like new again!

Nicely done Howard. Glad you found this one. Or maybe it found you. Either way it’s quite a find.

Having in recent years become a motorcyclist again, after a 45 year hiatus, I find this kind of content both interesting and relaxing. I’m betting that will be the nicest ‘74 XL 250 on the planet when you’ve worked your magic.

I usually do my projects during the winter, but I'm getting started now on this project.

Tom is turning out to be your "Go to guy" for your projects! It's good to see that he has you in mind when he finds stuff. The bike is already starting to look good! You got a good shot of your new sign on your work desk. It's in a good place, right in front of the Belair. Mine is mounted on the wall right in front of my Belair.

Tom's always telling me about cars he sees.... some I do go look at, and a few I end up buying.
I need to move some signs around, to mount it where I want it. I hope to do that in the next few days. Been working on the bike.

That's a great looking dirt bike for a 1974. I got a 74 Kawasaki triple 400 in 1978 from original owner had thousand miles on it payed 450 dollars for it it's been long gone. Glad you are doing lots better

I like your automobile content, but I really like the motorcycle stuff. That XL is a great starting point to get the details correct.

As a retired electrician, I always use to install my slot screws horizontal, as you did on your license plate.

I had a 1972 XL250 back in the mid 70s. It was a good bike until the oil pump shattered and the cam locked up.

Sounds to me, that you and that bike were meant to be together.

I had 4 of these enduro dual sport bikes that I rode on the street but sold my last one due to all the distracted drivers. Around me, drivers will kill you looking at their phones.

Same here.... I stick to neighborhood streets or take them up to my brothers where we can ride for hours and rarely see another car.
