Oh yeah, it's terrible. They wait for things to break before they bother maintaining it, and their idea of maintenance is to just patch things up with duct tape (like ripped seats, broken chassis, etc). Seats are disgusting, clearly haven't been cleaned in several months if not years. For some reason, they're becoming a lot more common on the main line. Normally, you'd probably end up riding one once a week at most, now it's pretty much 50/50. Glad to finally see the M9s rolling into LI, though.
They should've done what Metro North did and rehab them but such is life at this point. I just hope that operationally they're as sound as the M8's were generally speaking
Nice catch! Although they look a lot like the M7s to me. Not saying you're wrong or anything, it's just that I don't see much of a difference between the M9s and the M7s.

Well based on the R179 I would almost have to agree, but LIRR needs these as their M3's are basically trashed at this point.
