Older video but if you go lizards in mushroom forest biome you absolutely want to focus on a meat economy. It's usually good to pick up the advanced trapper's camp because you are extremely likely to find at least one source of meat very early in a glade, and lizards thrive off meat (skewers can be made with meat and insects and jerky just meat and a flammable resource which in mushroom biome will almost always be coal). The perk to reduce woodcutter hostility is a bit of a noob trap even if you plan on getting a strong wood economy with beavers because most of the time you just won't be working your woodcutters during the storm except in the first couple of years, at which point the increased hostility from woodcutters doesn't matter much as long as you provide the basics (homes and food, preferably complex food). Also, on mushroom forest in particular, wood is scarce so it's not something you want to focus your economy on anyway.

Fyi, there's been an overworld overhaul. Also, this game has a free demo. I don't know if the demo is up to date with the full game, but last I checked you keep all your resources, exp, and unlocks from the demo if you buy the full game.
Lots of new updates, miss the good old times I could choose my difficulty setting how I wanted. Now they game forces me to play on prestige 15, I like a challenge sometimes but not always!
I think they have to heavily rebalance the prestige levels. Especially the level that halfes your trade value destroyes many playstyles. This leads to the boring situation that you have to depend on your luck to have a decently fast success after prestige 10 since there are very few viable options.
To me luck is always more important than skill. My armpits are always sweaty and I used all kinds of deodorants and it didn't help. Then I got lucky enough to find a boyfriend who LOVES them. We got married ever since 🤣
All that ever happens when I play this game is my people starve and there's not a damn thing I can do about it, because the spiteful game just never gives me the raw resources I need to even craft meals no matter how many glades I cut down. I'm honestly sick of trying to give the game more chances, I'm dozens if not hundreds of hours in at this point and any time I go over the basic difficulty it's immediately time to get screwed over. Pretty much copied this video playthrough doing similar things and I'm not even at the first milestone in reputation and everybody starved, died and left, and I picked the only food making places available to me with the options given, so I had the ability to make jerky, biscuits, pies, and I never got any raw materials to make them, and my entire town was dead before the second trader arrived and the first trader didn't even offer food ingredients as a fucking option. What's more frustrating is I'm not a noob at these types of games. I've been running max difficulty playthroughs on games like Civilization and Anno for practically 30 years at this point, but this game is incredibly unforgiving and seemingly entirely RNG based, and it's ALWAYS about fucking food.
@DirEnGay Have you tried on not depending on processed food? I have won couple games without giving any good food, only focusing on tool production for points, and opening small glades at first for food, then middle glades for food. And try to pick only food at start embarkation points.
