The Gaffer needs to be between the fisherman and the fish Then the fisherman can slide the fish over the gaff. Same with a pier net. Once the fish is tired, point the rod at the fish and drag it to the net or gaff.
That guy in the blue shirt is always out there. The boy can catch a damn cobia. I watched him catch a 82lber one day.. Commercial fisherman if I aint mistaking
They break a lot of laws on that pier. Gaff nearly everything, then if fish does not meet specs, they filet it right there on the pier. they should use nets only to land fish.

Some cobia are too big for nets and you have to gaff them, they get well over 100 lbs
