    This list of sounds is very well-organized. That's one of the things I like about Kiswahili. It's a very well organized & rule-governed language, unlike English which is a very messy language in terms of it's rules.

      True. So far, it's been a much easier language to learn, because it's very organized.

    as a Setswana speaker, just listening to this I don't think it would be too difficult to learn Swahili although I haven't heard a single similar word to Tswana a couple of minutes into the video, but the idea think we shape the tongue same way but in some instances they use the tongue as other languages that are minorities in out region like Herero and Mbukushu(Hambukushu)

      There's other African languages, but I agree kiswahili would be a perfect candidate for a lingua franca for a United Africa. Since it's much easier to learn and serves as an intro to the other African languages.

    the words that uses DH, GH, SH, KH are best spoken with the Arabic accent.. Arabic speakers will be much better of how to speak such words that a native swahili speaker.
    of course with exception of GH which in most cases is interchangeably spoken as G... like in GHALI, GHOROFA...

      I agree, but it's true that this language is spoken over so many different countries, it's likely that some things are going to change from country to country. We certainly don't pronounce words the same in the US as they do in England. Good to know the difference, though. Now this can help me identify which country people are from when I hear them speaking Swahili.

    Please can somebody explain the difference in sound between dha and tha? I simply don't hear it, I can't understand what to do with my tongue to pronounce tafadhali. Please help, I'm a total beginner.

    • @holdthatlforluigi
      @holdthatlforluigi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This video does not properly demonstrate the difference. I believe that in in the dialect of the videos creator, the distinction simply does not exist.
      DH is the sound in "that" "these' "the" and "mother"
      TH is the sound in "three" "thigh" "thanks" and "math"
      the fancy word for DH is *voiced dental fricative*
      the fancy word for TH is *voiceless dental fricative*
      A few words are differentiated by this sound in English. For example,
      thigh has TH
      thy has DH

    When you pronunce DHA, DHE, DHI, DHO, DHU and the word examples you in fact pronounce them as th in "thin", not as in "that" (the correct pronounce, I've learnt and heard).
    And just next sound, FA... you give as an example "fedha" and this time you pronounce it correctly, as in "that"!!!
