I recently took a long coach ride and listened to this album on loop for most of the journey after chancing upon her as the coach left. Incredible, like nothing else I've ever heard. I had to switch coaches a few hours in and had some time to kill so I went and bought a notepad to start trying to write some words myself. Every so often there's some music you hear that opens up a whole new way of thinking about music and art and this was one of them. Absolutely incredible. Thank you Kate.
Holy mackerel. That was really something. It's great to discover music that is so different from one's own beat (mine being classical) and being so immediately taken in be sheer quality.
I first heard her last night on JO WILEY bbc Radio and was immediately drawn in. It's powerful and very vulnerable in its tone and attitude. I don't know her age. On Radio driving through Londons affluent Swiss Cottages🏚️🏘️🏡 area last night gave her SongPoem an extra surrealist element for me. Some fantastic lines and couplets. I also like her rhythm and tone and partly sung style. She reminds me of a "super urban/super naturalistic" MACY GRAY who I LIKE. Or a modern day nihilistic RALPH McTELL.The backing and synths are tremendous and a glorious mixture of BRIAN ENO/BOWIE/SCOTT WALKER.. maybe KRAFTWERK (all supreme and influential WRITERS in anyone's book) 📖📕 Hope she gets to read my little critique. I am a singer and writer. I am now 91. She blew me away. I thought she was a S. London black kid and I mean that in full praise and admiration. So many killer lines. "A muscle of School girls" Very strong (every pun intended on my part) Keep going, ur nearly there. ✍️❤️🎹😎🎸🙏
I m very very very touched... In people faces.....so beautiful.. She reminds me a very very talented singer who was in my life few years ago.... I'm crying
Kae feels the deepest longings of the human race, to be free of the bondage of working to make others rich, those who regard us as mere utilities and cogs.
I love love love this. Going straight to check out the album. I came here via the facebook campaign which is beautifully executed and brought a tear to my eye. I had to go take a minute because I was so moved. Well done Kate Tempest
Kate. Loved your works whenever the internets occasionally threw it to me, usually an accidental glance. But this, from Claire Uchima and you had me falling to knees in music and English poetry/language appreciation. You are both magnificent musicians xoxo
Today I heard her at BBC1. The name seemed known, vaguely, I liked the interview, so I decided to look her up to find more. but sure enough I forgot the name, The only thing I remembered that is was a short first name, and then something technical like, not sure what that device was. Now I looked and see that is not quite technical, and what a tempest is. Anyway, I decided to loo at top female brit singers, and sure I will find it. So, the google list, about 50 names, contains a lot of dead ones, or from ancient times, but she is not there. barely a third or less names ringed a bell to me. So I looked for other list. Found one with 300 names. She is not in that one either. But there is a tempest from two centuries ago, and so I remembered the name, and was able to look it up. Weird..
Kate, amazing as usual; but i feel she need better accompaniment. in the first half the keyboards didn't feel part of the same performance and in the second half it lacked any nuance or synergy with Kates phrasing. but you can't deny those lyrics are heartfelt fire
