    I have washed a couple notes in my early years as a collector. I pretty much used the same method, but with shampoo, and a straight edge ruler instead of a card. One note, was that old 1928G $2, it was really rough to begin with, but did come out looking less dirty, but it was too late to improve ridgidity. The other note was just a random circulation dollar bill at the time, and it had similar results to the $20s that you showed in this video. I only did it for fun and experience reasons, but I did learn what purposely cleaned notes are like, opposed to a not forgotten in a pocket on laundry day, and I have noticed that under magnification, they still showed signs of their prior condition.

    I didn’t think about using the credit card to get them extra straight, that was a good idea! Also I’ve used acetone to get stains out and the results were pretty good, probably about par with the alcohol. Thanks for sharing!

    Good change and suggestion!!! Specially coming from a decent, professional and honorable person like you!!!
    But if this was an experiment better do it with filthy old dollar bill.

    I still don't know what the coating material is?
    When the cleaning is done better put paper towels above and below before applying pressure (with books or heavy objects) in order to give it a crisp.

    If the bill is in bad shape, wouldnt it ruin it? I'm talking about the Bill's that have no stiffness to them, from being so circulated, that feel like they're a literal cloth.

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the note is in bad shape, it's already ruined. If you have a note that's totally limp, odds are you wouldn't be the first one to get it wet. But you would probably be the first to smooth it with a card! A note like that can't really get any worse.

      Don’t clean your notes. When you press them it actually alters the fibers and makes the paper feel thin. Totally ruins a chance at an EPQ designation.

      That's exactly why I only used notes I was going to return to the bank. I don't think they should be cleaned but now I know first hand how it works and what a cleaned note feels like.

  • @james4582
    @james4582 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really? I mean what’s the point if you’re going to spend them or take back to the bank where they’ll just put them in with all the other unclesned notes
    If you got that much time on your hands I have a lot of leaves to take up and trees to cut and trim I could use a hand. Lol

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I now know what a cleaned note feels like. I now know how to spot a cleaned note. Now I know if I see a $100 note for $20 because of condition, I might be able to make it better. I know I'm not going to try it with my $1000 note. I'd say I learned a lot! I also know some people are much better at cleaning notes than me. Practice makes perfect.

    • @james4582
      @james4582 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know I was being a bit facetious with my comment and what you do is your business, however, as a serious collector of bank notes and having the misfortune of obtaining such a note that was cleaned and pressed to hide its condition in effort to claim a higher value and a lesson I learned in my early years. I lily I only lost about $20 on it. There are many disreputable dealers who use these methods to scam unsuspecting collectors Many of whom reside on the likes of eBay and other forums. That is my only concern.

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      James 45 Cool! So we both agree that everyone should take a ratty old note and clean it so they know what to look for. 👍😁
