Dodge had most of their cars in the late 80's turbocharged. One specifically used a garret t25 VNT turbo, and it wasn't just a small turbo, it changed its size internally to provide varying levels of boost, from off idle to full throttle. Might have been a great choice for this. Fwdperformance still sells them new, if anyone is interested.
it is not a lot more power, 100-150ish, but what it does do is keep the power and torque very low in the rev range, just like the 4.0 has from stock, and just like you need and want when doing most offroading.

Russ Black only difference is 99 has coil packs and not a distributor and I think they changed the head is why they had head issues on the newer 4 liters but they all have weak Pistons so I don't know if the Pistons will hold up to that extra boost
jim davidson hey dumbass things can be modified the old 4.0s were no different other then they ran off a distributor not coil packs. So yes you could make this work I'm sure but the tuner and tuning that comes with it probably won't. But for 4 grand you can make a lot more power other ways

there's no flash for the computer so it'll bolt up fine just gotta mod the intercooler and pipes a bit for a Cherokee or wj and anything older still should work fine if ur mechanically able:) or just do your own setup with a Volvo i5 turbo and a modified 12 v Cummins manifold or another way is use your stock exhaust system and splice in the turbo feed on the passenger side exhaust pipe with some mustang 32lb or up injectors:)and a walbro 255 lph pump in the stock sending unit...

It will work on the wj I’m pretty sure they did that engine on stock internals and plus the wj has thicker stronger block look up kieth newcomer he made like 861 hp with a wj block but I am slapping a 98 mm spooly boi in my wj in the next few weeks you can add me on snap chat if you’d like and I can keep you updated on how I do mine
Buy a turbo from a dsm. Get tubular header to fit t4 flange. Run piping and put bigger injectors in it with a larger fuel pump. Cost of turbo 4.0. Under $1000.

My girl has a 99 TJ, i swapped a zj engine into it, the only differences were the intake manifold and oil filter adapter, 97-99 TJ still used a distributor so thats a non issue.
every time I call them they say it does not work on a 99 TJ. The engine shown is a 2000+, pre 2000 has AC and alternator in different location. And computer is completly different.
No offense to Gale as I don't know jsck about turbos, I just wouldn't get any NA engine below 4L and the new Stellantis Hurricane 3.0 takes 7.5 quarts of oil; well, that just has me thinking about oil consumption like the VW/Audi European "dieselgate" scandal

for the same money you could throw in a 4.2 crank, pistons and rods, rework the head and get 400 hp with zero "lag". there's a video on this as well.....
The wrangler market is too big to pass on. They’re not gonna waste their time making a fit specific kit for the xj because there just won’t be a hot enough market for them plus how many xj owners do you know that would spend that kind of money on a turbo that will give you “off idle torque.”?

it is not a lot more power, 100-150ish, but what it does do is keep the power and torque very low in the rev range, just like the 4.0 has from stock, and just like you need and want when doing most offroading.

For what this costs it makes more sense to me to buy a professionally built 4.7 stroker with a mild cam. Nice fresh motor and power upgrade.
