The Ginataang Bilobilo is usually a dessert dish cooked for when the weather is rainy or cold. Those starchy balls you eat are actually the Bilobilo which are Glutinous Rice flour balls. My Mom said that it's based on the word "bilog" which means "round". We don't usually eat this dessert after a Meal. It's more like a Hearty Snack we eat usually around 2:30 or 3:00 PM.
The Ginataang Bilo Bilo usually have taro, sweet potato, ube (purple yam), langka (jackfruit) which is the yellow/0range strip, saging na saba (one of the short stout variant of bananas in the Philippines), glutinous rice balls, small bobas cooked in sweet coconut milk. The Halo Halo would usually contain pinipig (toasted young rice), leche flan (egg and milk flan), ube halaya (sweetened mashed purple yam), ube ice cream, evaporated milk, sweetened beans (mung and white kidney beans), strips of jackfruit, sweet potato, sweetened saba banana, sugar palm, coconut sport, coconut gel, sugar, and shaved ice. Those are the traditional ingredients but nowadays they're adding more or changing some of the ingredients depending on the availability or having their own version.
The white ball is mochi-like sticky flour rounded (bilo-bilo, derived from Bilog which is Tagalog for Round), the yellow color is, maybe, the jackfruit. Some usually eat GI-NA-TA-ANG (cooked in Coconut Milk) after it has been stored in the Fridge. Ginataang Bilo-bilo is usually eaten alone, as it is quite heavy, as an afternoon snack. Next time try Banana-Q and Camote-Q, Palitaw, and Biko.
Balls are called bilo-bilo. It is a rice cake, Ginataang Bilo bilo are made of sweet potatoes, jackfruit, rice cake (balls), ube, coconut milk, banana (saba)
the turon you had is banana in lumpia wrapper, sometimes has jackfruit. its fried with brown sugar. you may also like banana-cue. similar to turon without the wrapper. we also make kamote-cue. instead of banana, yam is used. awesome that you are enjoying filipino food.
white balls we called in the Philippines "BILO-BILO" , sticky or glutinous rice (sticky rice that’s been ground called GALA-PONG) rolled into ball, the processed called "BILO-BILO"
White balls is made of glutinous rice they grind in powder they put little water then they make it a balls bilo2 is made of potato roots, banana saba, ube or purple potato tapioca then cocunot milk
The Ginataang Bilo Bilo or "Binignit" in Bisayan dialect, is most of the time served during the Lent season or Holy week. Binignit is a hot porridge that has bananas/saba, sweet potato, ube, jackfruit, taro and bobas cooked in coconut milk, evaporated milk and condensed milk. It is paired with "Bico" (it is a dessert in the Philippines and my personal favorite).
Ginataang Bilo Bilo has sweet potato, banana, jackfruit, gabi, pearl, coconut milk, sugar, the round white is made of rice flour 😍💗💕 there's more Filipino dessert especially made of thick rice, coconut milk😍💗
Hi there. I'm glad that you like trying Filipino foods. I just wanted to say that usually foods like the Bibingka was usually eaten for breakfast and what you consider as "afternoon tea" during the Christmas season here in the Philippines. Also the ginataang bilo-bilo is also an afternoon snack or breakfast food and not really considered as a dessert here. Well I hope this helps somewhat in your food adventures. If you want to consider real Filipino desserts, I suggest the following: Leche Flan, Macapuno(sweetened coconut strips), pastillas, buko pie are a few to look for. More success to you and your channel!!!
Bibingka is usually eaten at night, not morning. Most of the vendors sell it at night because if they sell it in the morning, it will only be hit starting December 16 or "simbang gabi".
Ginataang Bilo-bilo [ghi-na-TAH-ang] [bi-LOH bi-LOH] is like the warm version of Halo-halo but uses heavy and dense vegetable ingredients. It's preferred as a breakfast meal or as a solo snack rather than as an after-meal dessert. It is known for the variety of textures brought by the different fruits (bananas/plantains, jackfruit), rice flour balls, and root crops (tapioca balls, cassava, sweet potato, taro root, purple yam)
Here in the Philippines, a freshly cooked turon can be topped with vanilla ice cream, so I think it's okay to dip it on the milky halo-halo. 😉 the ginataang bilo-bilo you had is actually a ginataang halo-halo, and it is usually eaten as an afternoon snack.
Love watching you guys😍 Turon is also one of my faves. It’s good with vanilla ice cream on the side The white balls is actually made from glutinous rice powdered to make it round little balls. Mostly that dessert is made of Yuca, ripe plantain, ube, & sometimes pearls or bobas, cooked with Coconut milk😍
the white balls in Bilo Bilo are made from glutinous rice flour. it's ok, me too... I'm a Filipino but I don't Like Bilo bilo either. so don't worry we understand. try also Ube cake, Palabok, and chocolate mousse in Red Ribbon.
That carnation evaporated milk that you showed is what we also use in the Philippines. Must taste different with all the other sweet stuff mixed in with it 🙂
Whenever you get to try Palabok (you can order one at Jollibee), squeeze kalamansi or lemon over it to bring out the flavors! Those balls are the Bilo Bilo!
we used to eat more than 1 serving of ginataan, actually we have so many kind of ginataan,we have ginataang halo halo, ginataang bilo bilo, ginataang monggo and ginataang mais(corn)
The deserts looked mostly wonderful. So did the drinks! But, if your our age "evaporated milk" brings horrible memories. It used to come in a powder and was mixed with water. Terrible stuff! It was cheap and both our parents would give it to us. We know it's changed and many things are cooked with it, but it so hard to get over the memories. The last one and I don't remember the name (Kev, check your phone) looked and sounded like it would be our least favorite too. Loved the video!
Oh no that sounds gross 😫 lol. Yeah that last one was a very acquired taste let's say, never had anything like it. Everything else was lovely 😍. Thanks so much for watching guys
yes, the ginataang bilo-bilo is too much, it's usually served in teacup-sized portions due to the heaviness of the yams and plantains, and it's usually a snack on between lunch and dinner.
Ginataan Bilo-Bilo, Turon and Bibingka are actually snacks and not desserts. The white ball in the ginataan is made of glutinous rice. I think the smell that you didn’t like in the ginataan might be because of the ripe jackfruit or langka (that thin yellow strip). I understand how the smell of that can be quite off-putting for some people.
I'd say that the best Halo Halo, Bibingka & Ginataang Bilo Bilo you'll ever have tasted are the ones made here in the Phils. I dunno about the taste of the ones you guys have tried there hehe. The native ingredients and the preparations has got to do with it. The Halo Halo you guys had doesn't look appealing to me. I dunno but it seem to lack some of the most important ingredients. Does it have sweetened bananas, jackfruits and leche flan in it? I see mostly jellies and ingredients are in small portion. Colour also looked pale. Should be light purple coz of the ube ice cream topping and ube jam. Yes, Halo means 'mix' in Pilipino/Tagalog which literally means you have to 'mix mix' all the ingredients together before eating. Kev, dipping Turon in your Halo Halo is a bad idea lol. Bibingkas are rice flour cakes, one of my ultimate favourites. Yes, it's kinda like a pancake that used rice flour instead of the regular cake flour. Great when it has cheese and salted eggs. You forgot to ask for the 'niyog' or raw grated coconut. Best to eat it with niyog. Here today, Bibingkas has leveled up and now comes in different varieties. Some had flavoured doughs or loads of different toppings and ingredients. Ginataang Bilo Bilo is not a dessert. You guys are right. It is more like a 'merienda' meal or a snack item. Like a sweet snack comfort food I guess. The balls in it are made from rice flour as well. Ingredients mostly are root crops like sweet potatoes and gabi (taro), bananas and jackfruits. No, It doesn't have mangoes. That's probably banana or jackfruit that you have mentioned eating, Kev. Me, I love it. Again, it's been fun watching this vlog. Looking forward to the new Jollibee video and oh, don't forget to try the Jolly palabok. They have it there in the US. It's rally good. One of my faves. Stay safe guys, love to you both :)
Thanks for all the information and yeah told Kev not to dip it in lol 😆 but he likes to experiment like that with food no matter where it is from. And yeah would love to try all this food in the Phillipines one day but things are very travel restricted in alot of countries because of covid still. Seems to be never ending! Thanks so much for watching
Ginataang bilo bilo isn't really a desert its more like a mid day snack we call it "Meryenda" Snack time between 1 PM to 4 PM and those balls are Glutinous rice. 😄

in the Philippines, turon usually has a crispier wrapping compared to lumpia because its sugar coated. it's Gi(hard G)-na-ta-ang Bilo-bilo

They're really not considered as desserts, they're afternoon snacks.
Ginataan Bilo Bilo is not really much of a dessert but rather as an afternoon or mid day snack which happens to be a sweet dish.
there's no mid day snack, mid day is equivalent to lunch
They're not familiar with Savory Desserts.
That’s not mango it’s shrimp
