Even more of a reason why this should never have happened. I know it's only a few hours after the incident, but anger is brewing quickly. New parents by the sounds of it.. sent to their deaths in an horrific way. Strapped in, upside down in a mechanical crusher. Nice work Dreamworld.

Always one of my favourite rides at the park, and normally the first stop when the park opened before the lines got too long. Thanks for the good memory in light of todays tragic event on the ride.
An empty raft got stuck on the conveyor belt section. The raft with passengers then collided with that raft and capsized, trapping the passengers between the raft and the conveyor belt.
i loved this ride as a kid. it was such a family friendly ride that brought so much joy to young and old... i can't believe it ended up being causing a tragedy. RIP
As a themepark fan I came to see what kind of lift/conveyer belt this ride has. I have to say I have never seen a rapids ride with such a large amount of space the beams. On other rapids you could likely just walk on the belt, This definitely increases the chance of accidents. Also i've never seen seatbelt in a rapids ride. Those prevent people standing up during the ride I guess but when something serious would happen, it would take too much time to take them off. Serious design flaws.
I can only speak about the two rides I've experienced: Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-rat Barges at Islands of Adventure (Universal Studios) and Kali River Rapids at Animal Kingdom (WDW), they have seatbelts, but they are super easy to take off. Both parks are super safe and trustworthy, we can't say the same about Dreamworld.
Yeh I noticed that too. What do you think the safety inspector wrote in his notes about this ride? "Mechanical slicer and crusher in good working order".
Absolutely heartbreaking and tragical accident to occur. My thoughts are with the family that had been affected by this incident. I'm just absolutely sad that this has happened. Reading articles that they were crushed and 2 of them drowned underneath the water is absolutely devastating to hear. Dreamworld should be expected to stand to trial for a homicide. The ride malfunctioned 2 times earlier that day and the engineers had the audacity to keep running it, boils my blood.
It's scary that a ride like this can cause death, knowing that most of us here have been on something very similar, in Thorpe park the rides conveyor belt is like 2 tracks which wouldn't cause the ride to flip and looks safer, my thoughts go out to all family and friends of the victims
I've always had a strange gut feeling about these multi platform rides sharing the same path as others, never liked the idea of hitting another platform. Now I see why.
I think the accident happened at 4:29, according to the aerial shot. I also think I know what caused the accident, based on what is around the ride at the time.
Without looking too deeply in to it I think there was a low water level due to a pump issue. That caused the craft in front to kind of beach itself at the bottom of the conveyor and also sit lower than it usually would have. The following doomed craft came off the conveyor and its nose went up over the one stuck in front. The conveyor slats caught on the backside and caused it to flip up on a 90 degree angle wedging itself in a gap between the end of the conveyor and an under water guide railing. The conveyor then began to grate anything that was ejected behind it back in to the wedged craft. You can see it actually ground down the seat backs level with the rest of the flat surface. There is also a possibility that the conveyor slats rotated back under water causing a cross over motion which would rip apart anything caught in between. The injuries would have been almost immediately fatal with some dismembering and/or mangling combined with crushing/grating. I'd be surprised if anyone drowned. If they did maybe that was anyone that fell out on the far edges of the conveyor which were then mangled, dragged under water and had no chance of freeing themselves when the conveyor was stopped. Most likely would have died from the injuries either way. It probably all unfolded within a matter of 10 seconds before it was stopped. They say the kids were thrown free but I wouldn't be surprised if maybe the velcro belt was strong enough to hold them in place, their seating position was favourable and their determination to hold on allowed them to be swiftly rescued.
wrong , the ram stop gate on the left at 4:36 ,was what made it jam first raft ,police are seen messing with hing area to free up the first raft ,,,its a death trap waiting to happen ,
YouDontNeed2Know You're the one who can't read. The comment clearly says 'submerged' so he asked how could they be submerged when there's no water on the conveyer belt.
***** Yes OBVIOUSLY it says it "flipped upside down" no one's questioning that, Eddie was questioning the "SUBMERGED" part of the comment, as there doesn't look to be water in the part that they flipped - so he was saying how did they submerge if there was no water. Learn to read a little slower so you actually understand what's being said instead of rushing to write a comment that makes no sense!
I loved this ride when I went on it over ten years ago as a kid. So heartbreaking to know four people have died 😢 I hope dreamworld doesn't close for good but I hope this ride is closed and scrapped for good
There is no way that the accident could have happened as described to us. The carriage nowhere shows any momentum strong or fast enough to have tipped such a heavy vehicle or caused six people's seatbelts to fail particularly given the accident happened right at the end when carriage is moving at snails pace
***** Wouldn't surprise me if she did. And that's what so many people don't understand, this doesn't just 'happen' there were many faults that should have been dealt with. Although tragic, this won't stop me enjoying those rides.
My parents went on this the weekend before the incident. I remember when it was on the news and they were so shocked because they had just been on it a few days before.

NightmareWorld... how the hell did this flip? Edit: craft was hit from behind by another craft. Maybe something got caught in that brutal chain lift at the end, stopping the first craft? Notice the cross beams create a slicing action when in operation. Anything that falls through those gaps will be sliced and crushed. Poor design in my opinion. There should have been a steel mesh installed to cover those gaps.
There's absolutely no need for those seat belts. The ride isn't violent enough and as long are you hang on to the handle bar, you ought to be fine. There's an identical ride in Europa Park, Germany and there's no seat belt there. Presumably because they could be dangerous should the raft capsize... RIP to the victims. Very sad indeed.
Maybe to prevent them from standing up so the passengers wouldn't graze their heads/hands against the cave ceiling, or falling off the raft completely.
@@visionist7 It was demolished. Why do you strongly doubt it? Here's a video showing the site in 2018, two years after the incident. th-cam.com/video/9K-Rr8ROb_A/w-d-xo.html
5 second from getting off when there raft hit a second raft as it was coming off the lift ramp , it was forcing it forward but had no were to go and flipped ,,
How on Earth did it flip over going at that speed? The only possible explanation is that a tube coming up behind them was approaching at just the right angle and speed to get slightly underneath the tube and flip it up and over towards the conveyor.
Yes that's what happened. The question is why did the second tube catch up to the first. The first tube got stuck perhaps, and was just sitting there until bumped from behind. The more important question is, why was the chain lift designed to look like a dangerous industrial grinder with nothing covering the gaps?
+chaiTV I reckon it all has something to do with the incident that happened earlier in the day, people were saying the ride stopped for half an hour and the water was drained, maybe this is where the fault occured, maybe too much water was added or something and the tube behind was able to catch up or not enough water was added which may have caused the raft to get stuck on something and then hit from behind as you stated.
I agree there are so many questions unanswered. I saw a picture of the water all drained out and the gap between the conveyor belt and the wooden stand beneath the water is SO large that the entire raft fit through it. That's so dangerous and horrible. But its a 36 year old ride.. I guess they need to update all the outdated rides.
Cliché C Yeah but it shouldnt have to take 4 people to die before they fix the ride. They should shut the thing down for good, i dont see people enjoying that ride anymore
If you look at all the videos taken from this ride towards the end 4.38 where the raft comes off the conveyor belt for the people to get off, there is always a person there assisting or watching. The question is why did they need to make the conveyor belt big enough that a person could get trapped and grated in it,mind you this ride is 30years old and Dreamworld obviously couldn't give two shits about the maintenance of their rides as ive heard.

These rides are not safe one in Texas went under the waterfall feature cause it to flip over drowning people since then the water fall has had a rail to prevent that but still...
No, it was on the other side at the bottom of the downward conveyer right before the unload platform. It got stuck behind another stopped boat and for some reason the bladder got caught in the conveyor system and taken in causing the flip.
I'm watching this from California. It's 6:13am Tuesday 6/25/16. After watching this video I can't stop crying. Maybe it's seeing that small boy in this video.
Marama Maroke Oh, I know. This video is from a year ago. it's just watching this video and seeing that conveyor belt made it all very real to me. Plus I have borderline personality disorder so my emotions are highly sensitive and over reactive.
Dream world are responsible. They removed slats for easy access and to speed up maintenance exposing the conveyor belt machinery. It was a disaster waiting to happen. I can't believe it didn't happen sooner. I remember riding this ride and thinking I wouldn't like to go overboard, looking at the meat grinder churning away below. Every other similar raft ride in the world has covering slats to protect anyone who falls in. It blows my mind to think of the greed and incompetence here. When this ride was made, the owner Longhurst did it right. It was only when a greedy corporation bought it out that those slats were removed knowing full well that they were risking lives. It's disgusting!!!
those poor unlucky victims died on the slowest , tamest ride in the park. Sad..

Turned out to be a deathtrap in 2016
damn so sad to watch video when people died on that slow ride D:
happy birthday kids
These rides are not safe one in Texas went under the waterfall feature cause it to flip over drowning people since then the water fall has had a rail to prevent that but still...
3:50 that's when it flipped over and decapitated the 4 people.
Ouch
Daniel Zha decapitated?! Where did you read that?
No, it was on the other side at the bottom of the downward conveyer right before the unload platform. It got stuck behind another stopped boat and for some reason the bladder got caught in the conveyor system and taken in causing the flip.
I wish I could of. Gone on the ride because I have never been on one like it sadly since the tragedy is is all just piles of sand no trees no nothing
My favourite ride just killed 4 people, rip
don't go on that cause 4 people just died on it getting caught in the conveyer belt :/
MissWooHoo11 - BSL for American Pit Bull Terriers! People die in car crashes everyday, but does that stop you from going in a car?
It's much different. When you are in a car you have control, whereas here and in roller coasters you are at the mercy of the safety mechanisms.
It will probably be shut off forever
Patricio Ramos Negrete
A car is always going to be more dangerous than anything on a rail.
I can't believe people died on this ride!
How ironic that is was the seatbelt that killed them, worst way to die, trapped underwater
four people died today going up that conveyor belt. It somehow flipped over.
I'm watching this from California. It's 6:13am Tuesday 6/25/16. After watching this video I can't stop crying. Maybe it's seeing that small boy in this video.
+Max keeble it wasn't these ones in the video that died
Marama Maroke Oh, I know. This video is from a year ago. it's just watching this video and seeing that conveyor belt made it all very real to me. Plus I have borderline personality disorder so my emotions are highly sensitive and over reactive.
+Max keeble okay
Jet 82 Yea
rip the people that got killed on this ride
just click more and statistics
