One of the only British detectives that I knew was David Tennant as Peter Carlisle in Blackpool! I have never been so happy to be a nerd!
I also knew Inspector Japp from Poirot mysteries.
Richard is the GOAT. He's awesome.
It's not the same without him. The new guy is so boring.

@@XaviRonaldo0 They’ve been having different people in the chair, every 2 weeks roughly, so🤷♂️. I agree though - I might have it on for background noise but it’s not on my ‘list’ either.
First time ever I would have had 3 pointless answer in the final 😊
I went for the 3 Kevin smith movies, but I thought chasing Amy and clerks II would score, I thought mallrats might be pointless

Over 8 and a half minutes into this “trivia” game show, and they still haven’t asked the first question yet. This would be a half hour game show in the states, asking the same number of questions, and there’d probably be time left over.
You’d also have about 3 advert breaks in the States so have to manage time accordingly. Pointless is a 45 minute show on BBC (so no adverts) so they have to fill the time with banter.
That’s my point! It’s boring!

The talking at the start also helps put the contestants at ease. .
i've noticed that UK gameshows tend to be less flashy and gimmicky than modern US shows, with more emphasis on being tests of mental acuity. Other than Jeopardy, our gameshows here in the US have pretty much become farcical and decidedly lowbrow, probably to cater to people like you who need a crude joke or flashing lights every 5 seconds to stay entertained. i'd happily trade our endless piles of trash for more thoughtful shows like Pointless and Only Connect, thanks very much.
