Wow! you really got some great angles and camera footage on this group of trees it’s really cool to see it all happening from that perspective something when you are doing them yourself you don’t get to witness like that very cool thanks
Glad you showed the barber chair! A bunch of fallers would have left that out! When you show things like that it helps to keep some of the office desk wood men from tackling more than they should!!! I Enjoy your vids!
It is when the trunk splits when the tree is starting to go over. Parts of the trunk can then go anywhere, or even snap backwards which is why they are dangerous, they don't behave the same as an intact tree. The stump with the split trunk sometimes looks like a barber's chair, like at 9:50.
That’s the thing about Ash. It is prone to barber chair. I’d have made a larger notch because it’s an Ash. Hey,that’s the first critique I’ve given after watching your vids for a long time now. I don’t miss any of your vids. Thanks for telling us what species of tree!
7:29 - You shouldnt let your man to stay in range of canopy. Here in our place it was accident, man stood like your camera-operator and big tree hit in the slimmer stick (the same of height, but much thinner) and it behaved like a domino cube. Simply, main tree lay down straight, but second tree (thin as a whip) lay down perpencicular to the first. It struck the worker in the skull. The blow was instant. The top of a tree about 2-3 cm in diameter hit the head. His brain ejected by eye socket. That man died. R.I.P. Greetings from Poland. Here we also makes "treeworking".
40 years of felling, and 20 years ago we stoped cutting wedges.don,t take this wrong, but two cuts 4 to 6 inches apart depending on size. One cut on the front short, and the back cut longer above provides a safety kick hinge and saves a third longer wedge cut. I , in my time have never seen the top of the wedge cut have any functionality just a question
If your chain saw is producing wood chips the cutting blade is sharp. If all you see is saw dust the blade is dull. I was wondering why they were cutting down all those trees... maybe because of fire danger or possible storm damage.
the barber chair was caused by the 45 degree hinge, make it a 90 and that will happen far less.... your hinge basically stops the fall and causes the split
Hi! I was wondering if you are using that ratchet strap at 3:11 to prevent a barber chair on that tree. I've only seen one photo about that but no explanation on why he put it there. Does it really help if used properly?

Just saying - to avoid a barberchair, plunge cut through the middle of trunk after making the wedge cut. Back cut to where you are going to do the felling cut this way avoiding the split up the trunk and still have your hinge in the front . Saves you from getting killed[the strap is nice so why not add the plunge in for safety sake?]. Oh yea - watch out for snakes too. . . . . .

( I know videos do not give the viewer a full representation of the circumstances. You may have had a valid reason for a thicker hinge)
