  • Today I'm joined by Jillian Barberie. Jillian is incredibly candid as she takes me on the journey of her fascinating life.
We talk about her incredible career, marriage, divorce, motherhood, leaving Good Day LA, going to therapy, dealing with alcoholism, depression, anxiety and how she aggressively battled breast cancer.
Through it all she always found a way to move forward and I know you’ll be inspired by her story.

The part about looking out the window and seeing people walking their dogs, finding them 'normal', that's exactly how I would feel when I was experiencing servere anxiety and depression. I would look at people and think how lucky and blessed they were not to be in my hell. I would be so envious. Of course some were probably in their own hell. So spot on. Thank you again, great interview.

I think she is possibly the "realest" celebrity you have ever interviewed. I feel so much empathy for all she has been through. Glad she found therapy. Her story reinforces how that no matter who you are, what job(s) you do, or how much money you have/make, those things won't save you from drowning in the misery of all the bad shit that happens to you. If you are in the wrong headspace NONE of that will matter one damn bit. You have to be willing to do the inner work. The sad part is that so many people have to hit rock bottom before they wake up enough to seek help. But what's confusing is that many have undiagnosed mental health/physical issues that they are completely unaware of. So they reach for alcohol or drugs or whatever to numb the pain/ heartache. Which in turn just exacerbates whatever the issues are. When she told her cancer/IRS/depression story I cried right along with her. She's a total bad ass gal. Loved her raw honesty. Bravo to Jillian and you Maurice! 💪💌✨🕉

I have no doubt that the bravery and courage Jillian showed on sharing parts of her story will help many people ,even those who have not experienced the things Jillian has . What a wonderful woman she is.
Her grace just shines through. You Maurice just let her talk and as always showed what a empathetic kind man you are .Excellent episode.Thank you both so much .It's wonderful that Jillian has such caring friends and even more amazing that she continues to support and help others.

This episode of State of Mind had me in tears the whole time. The way Jillian described depression and anxiety was right on…so many emotions going through me, because only certain in people in this world can ever understand what it truly feels like to be depressed. That “cloud of doom” as Jillian said, hovering over you , everywhere you go. THANK YOU MAURICE for fighting the stigma of Mental Health and bringing awareness to families. It’s so tough when you’re misunderstood.

Surviving an abusive marriage with a narcissist, alcoholism, cancer, depression, financial woes. I was in awe of her story. No matter who we are we all go through struggles. Kudos to her in making it this far. And hope we all can lend as much support as we can whether to friends, coworkers, family or a perfect stranger who may be mainly in need of some emotional support. Never know when we may become the ones in need.

I felt deep empathy and connection with Jillian and she has my full support. For me, when she said at the end the interview it was cathartic for her, I hope so. For me, it was like living her catharsis live and the stress of watching has my own anxiety levels over the top. I wish two things and I hope this is well received. Please don't ever bring someone on who is still dealing with the most horrible pain in the peak of working things through Some us are capable of connecting too strongly and this was a painful interview to watch. I felt like I was sitting in another person's counseling session. I don't mean it wrong, I do care, but it was more than I personally can handle. In that regard you were remarkable Maurice, and obviously a true friend to a friend in need. My second wish is that Jillian finds a path forward and comfort within. Having walked through similar experiences, just wow. My heart goes out to her.

Im feeling super grateful to you both Jillian and Maurice for showing a part of you so many try to hide. This anxiety/ depression/ addiction stuff can get really heavy and make us feel alone and different at times. Maurice ive adored you for many years as so many others do, i thank you for giving anxiety ,mental health the attention it needs and speaking up about it while holding your head up high. Jillian ,girl i am so proud of you,9 months sober, that is absolutely awesome! Im on 10 years i think it is,just keep taking one day at a time, you got this! The thing that helped me most staying sober was id think about the next morning, morning after a night drinking is almost gaurenteed to put you right into that big dark hole,if possible it takes depression to another level. Then you talk cancer, you are a strong lady to say the least,I wish you the best of health and much peace of mind and so much love ❤. Im going on 2 years NED,no evidence of disease, i have my catscan next month, scanxiety, lol, like anxiety alone isnt enough. Well thanks again Maurice for all you do and all you are, take good care both of you❤. I feel less alone tonite now after watching. xx

Then I saw this podcast on my phone this morning and immediately started listening to it with excitement and anticipation! ( at that same moment is when I realized yes my phone can read my mind). Maurice!! It was so awesome to see this one. Unfortunately I can relate to the narcissism piece. My younger daughter married one. Would love to see more on this subject. It's so widespread. I had no idea until our family started being affected by it and I started researching my butt off. When you did the interview with Bryan Craig he mentioned that he went through a relationship with a female who was a narcissist. He didn't seem to want to go too far into it, but you could tell how badly it affected him. I've learned so much about this horrible condition in the past year, having to deal with it directly in my family. It is freaky to realize how many people are affected by it. This was a wonderful, real, honest episode. Thank you for what you do.

I watched Jillian when I lived in California. She was so entertaining. I loved her. She's so funny. I always thought she lived a charmed life. This interview was an eye opener. So sorry she had to lose her home. I'm glad you have your 2 children. Blessings to you. God knows how much you can endure and is watching over you. You need to get back on TV and entertain. You are the best non actor non comedian. So genuine. Cheers. Maurice I've watched you forever on GH. Even before Brenfz and Stone. ❤

Maurice Im having a hard time with this one. Not sure why. I feel her pain. It’s hard to get where you wanna be when you are in mental pain. I feel so depressed right now. I wish I could help her but I can barely help myself. Maurice you have helped me to live. Thank you so much. 🌹.

I lived her life. I know the yelling, the slamming of the doors everything she said I lived. Yes, my ex-husband was a narcissist I got lucky to have a therapist that dealt with abuse women. It took me seven years to get out of the marriage sadly, that also affected my two children.

The friend parking in the driveway story...so triggering for me. Jillian is so real and relatable, some incredible similarities (as there always are with narcissistic abuse), breast cancer included. She is an absolute ROCK STAR! Such and amazing episode.
