    The issue of leverage need not be an issue at all. You can always minuscule the risk by adjusting your lot size. I think it is wise if beginners pay a lot more attention to their lot size, making sure that they don't wreck and zero their accounts through high lots. I personally think that the higher the leverage the better, since you can as well minuscule the risk by adjusting your lot. If one can use high leverage to his advantage he might be onto something.
    It's a great video Karen, no doubt about it, but all I'm saying is the fundamental purpose of leverage has to hold true, and it is toy understanding that one shouldn't be bewailed by high leverage if he can adjust his risk exposure through lot adjustment.
    Again it's a personal perception.
    I'm Still a novice as compared to how much I wanna know.
    Kind Regards!
    😊

      If your lot size is taken care of it shouldn't be an issue. I'm just making assumptions in this video that the traders did not take care of their lot size. Thanks for your kind compliment !

      you are correct, but also high leverage can affect the amount of opened positions you can have at the same time especially when you have some floating loss. Low leverage will give you room to breath, along with lot size calculation

    Thank you for a very comprehensive explanation. I'm with a forex group and when we signed up, all newbies...they just told us to use 1:200 or 1:500. We use small lot sizes yes BUT no one explained the reason for choosing those leverages. Through my own research, I realised that lot sizes can let you control your losses regardless of leverage, but still...understanding the reasoning behind choosing a suitable leverage is so important. Rather than just telling new people use this ...FULLSTOP.

    Trading with leverage seems like it will be a really big advantage and it can be, but it can hurt you as much as it can help you. Many new traders are beginning to use as much leverage and, as a rule, lead to quick losses and the failure of the account. This is a good reason for new traders to learn how to trade Forex; I studied forex, then trade with AAFX.

    What leverage are you using right now?
    P.S. To those picky people who talk about risk per trade and saying things like leverage doesn't matter when you protect your drawdown, yeah i fuckin get that . My assumption in this video is somebody who breaks all the risk management rules and at the same time make it worse by increasing their leverage beyond acceptable levels.

    • @moloch32
      @moloch32 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen, great video. I'm using 1:200 leverage on a mini lot account. My max risk per trade is 1%, so I calculate what the lot size should be on each trade. Is this still good risk management or should I lower my leverage? I'm trading FX daily and 4H, still figuring out to be a profitable trader.

    • @havefun3532
      @havefun3532 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen! Loving the video as always.
      Right now I'm trading mini lot, with a 1:500 leverage, trading energies and gold. But I only allow up to 3 trades at a time and I watch that my negative balance doesn't exceed 30% of account balance.
      I trade the 4h and daily time frames.
      But if you use the proper R:R and keeping your balance from ever getting to 30% you shouldn't run into any leverage issues correct?

    • @KarenFoo
      @KarenFoo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Apa itu "leverage"...
    Biar saya jelaskan apa itu leverage dalam konteks perlaksanaan leverage dalam CFD atau forex online trading.
    Urusniaga buy atau sell dalam CFD atau forex online trading adalah berdasarkan nilai "lot size". Contoh nilai "lot size" ini ada pelbagai antaranya (0.01 hingga 0.09, ada 0.10 hingga 0.99, ada 1.00 hingga 9.99, ada 10.00 hingga 99.00, ada 100.0 hingga 999.0) bergantung kepada broker yg menawarkannya.
    Lot size yang paling kecil sudah pasti 0.01.
    Untuk "standard" account, kebanyakkan broker memberi nilai lot size 0.01 itu mewakili 10 sen(jika kita pakai base USD maka 10 sen USD) untuk pergerakan 1 pip.. Untuk menentukan brapa "allocation money" yang di perlukan untuk lot 0.01 ini bergantung kepada "leverage" yang kita pilih.
    Sebagai contoh jika pilih leverage 1:500, untuk lot size 0.01, memerlukan "allocation money" sebanyak 1 USD. Jadi bila kita tekan buy atau sell untuk lot size 0.01, kita akan lihat di ruangan margin dia akan tulis 1 usd (peruntukkan yang diperlukan). Dan 1 usd ini di panggil sebagai margin. Jika kita ada modal 100 USD.. Untuk lot size 0.01, menggunakan leverage 1:500, kita boleh guna sebanyak 100 kali. (100x1 = 100 usd)
    Namun jika pilih leverage 1:400, margin (allocation money) juga berubah untuk lot size 0.01. Jika leverage 1:500, lot size 0.01 memerlukan 1 USD. Tetapi untuk leverage 1:400 untuk Lot size 0.01 memerlukan 2 USD. Ini bermakna Jika kita ada modal 100 USD.. Untuk lot size 0.01, menggunakan leverage 1:400, kita boleh guna sebanyak 50 kali. (50x2 = 100 usd)
    Untuk leverage 1:300 untuk Lot size 0.01, "allocation money" berubah menjadi 3 USD untuk lot size 0.01. Ini bermakna Jika kita ada modal 100 USD.. Untuk lot size 0.01, menggunakan leverage 1:300, kita boleh guna sebanyak 33 kali. (33x3 = 99 usd, balance 1 usd is not enough money because the minimum requirement for 0.01 lot size required 3 usd)
    Untuk leverage 1:200 untuk Lot size 0.01, "allocation money" berubah menjadi 4 USD untuk lot size 0.01. Ini bermakna Jika kita ada modal 100 USD.. Untuk lot size 0.01,menggunakan leverage 1:200, kita boleh guna sebanyak 25 kali. (25x4 = 100 usd)
    Dan begitulah seterusnya sehingga leverage 1:1....
    "Free Margin" akan sentiasa berubah-ubah mengikut pergerakan turun naik market, pergerakan perubahan free margin ini boleh di lihat pada ruang "free margin". Ruangan "free margin" ini menunjukkan brapa banyak lagi entry dan lot size yg boleh digunakan untuk buy atau sell berdasarkan leverage yang di pilih.
    Nilai margin juga berbeza beza pada setiap broker.. Bermaksud untuk lot size 0.01 leverage 1:500 itu berbeza beza di setiap broker. Contoh untuk broker A, mungkin leverage 1:500 untuk lot size 0.01 memerlukan 1 USD, untuk broker B leverage 1:500 untuk lot size 0.01 memerlukan 1.66 USD, untuk broker C leverage 1:500 untuk lot size 0.01 memerlukan 1.50 USD, untuk broker D leverage 1:500 untuk lot size 0.01 memerlukan 1.30 USD, untuk broker E leverage 1:500 untuk lot size 0.01 memerlukan 1.44 USD...
    Margin ini juga berubah-ubah mengikut kategori. Untuk currency, leverage 1:500 untuk lot size 0.01 memerlukan 1 USD, untuk GOLD leverage 1:500 untuk lot size 0.01 memerlukan lebih dari 1 USD, untuk commodity juga tak sama walaupun leverage dan lot size sama 1:500 dan 0.01 memerlukan lebih dari 1 USD.
    Jadi pilihlah broker yang menawarkan tawaran terbaik... Jgn lupa pilih broker yg genuine, regulated broker. Jgn pilih scam broker!
    So dalam CFD atau Forex Online Trading ini, "leverage" itu bukan hutang atau pinjaman tunai yg diberikan oleh broker. Tafsiran itu adalah salah sama sekali. (beri pinjam kalau rugi, sedangkan trader tak perlu bayar kerugian atas pengunaan leverage td, dan trader boleh buka account baru dgn broker yang lain pula, bankrap broker mcm ni!)
    Makin besar leverage itu, makin kecil margin (allocation money) diperuntukkan untuk "lot size".. Sebaliknya makin kecil leverage itu, makin besar margin (allocation money) diperuntukkan untuk "lot size"
    So dalam konteks perlaksanaan urusniaga buy atau sell dalam forex online trading, leverage itu bukan bermaksud pinjaman. Ia hanyalah pengurusan kawalan "lot size" besar mana yang boleh di urusniaga kan berdasarkan modal atau "free margin" yang ada.

    Nice Vidoe Karen. Is it ok to neglect leverage alltogether if you are setting your stop loss as a percentage of your account and not as a standard amount?

    Thank you for sharing great knowledge. Just two weeks into FX just opened a demo acc , but i still have a lot to learn . If u manage your lot size well , will your leverage really matter?? Eg if i put a lot size of 1% and put a stop loss then take a very high leverage i.e 1:500 do i run the risk of losing morethan 1%?? Thank u.

      You're welcome. Theres no point using such high leverage. Studies have shown that profitable traders use low leverage. So you might as well follow that finding.
