    Respect to you Alan for growing these the proper way 😄. Layering them is time consuming particularly how many you have. Nice one 👍🏻

    Great timing Alan! By coincidence it's also my first year growing sweet peas as cordons. Mine are a bit behind yours and I've only got a dozen. Thanks for showing how to prune side shoots properly - I was lopping the lot! I've some others growing in the normal chaotic way at home as insurance that I'll have enough to satisfy she who must be obeyed.
    Happy sowing, growing and harvesting

      I’m pleased it was good timing, I’m sure you will make a good job of them, it has amazed me how thick the stems are, I did find the rings of Amazon to be a great help, I haven’t done any the old way , so I may be in trouble if theses fail 😁, at least you have a back up plan 😂, please let me know how you get on, kind regards…………alan🌿

    I’m not an expert on ornamentals but I reckon you’ve done a proper job on that. They are great looking plants - healthy and vigorous. Look forward to seeing the display - should be fantastic 👍😀

      Hi Jonny, and thank you, they have done better than I expected, I’ve never grown them this way before and there isn’t too much info on TH-cam, but if you look what’s happening you can work out if it’s right, not looking forward to the layering though 🥴, take care of yourself kind regards…………alan🌿

    • @jonnyskitchengarden
      @jonnyskitchengarden 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I imagine the layering will be a nightmare. I’ve only seen that done with tomatoes and then it’s fairly easy as they will be on strings and hooks - you just unwind some more string and move the hooks along.

    Watching this has made me rethink how I grow mine. I always seem to succumb to the dreaded powdery mildew and probably due to overcrowding. I shall be getting my snips out this afternoon!!

    They are monsters 😃 - in a good way 😉 looking bigger than a cornstalks!! Seems like it will take good bit of maintenance to keep them from scrambling together but amazing job to have grown them that big. I only got mine out of root trainers yesterday 😅 slugs had done a lot of pruning so I'll let the scramble away. Best wishes, Maiju 💚🌿

    • @ThedawnchorusPlot
      @ThedawnchorusPlot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Maiju, I’m very pleased with them so far, the stems have surprised me, “SLUGS” what a nuisance, but sweet peas are very forgiving, I’m sure you will have a good display, the weather is much better now, take good care of yourself kind regards………..alan🌿

    They look so different, as you say, much bigger stems and very big overall. I'm just growing in the standard time honoured way, I may try a handful like that one year if your results when they flower are as good. I'm growing Elegant Lady, Galaxy mixed and Night and day, which I often grow, the over wintered ones have just opened there first flowers (I'm in the south of England) all the best John
