If you ever wanted to part with it, give me a shout! I'm also a Boss mark, and when someone tells me something is bad that means I *HAVE* to try it and make use of it.
Sounds like one of the multitude of stereo wideners that many use in the final mastering of audio files in studio. Not really a radical change. The only distraction to me is that either the device was creating an odd effect on the high string , or the guitar was out of tune. Every time the high string was plucked it was very distracting. And very out of tune.
I was never big on effects that only slightly change your sound. This reminds me of the BBE Sonic Maximizer, I owned the pedal version. It did enhance the sound as it seemed to make my amp sound clearer, but I found I could get the same results with an EQ pedal, which can be much more versatile especially in the studio.
Ok, I like your videos.. but not this one. This pedal is a hidden gem. Goes best toward the end of your board. Yes, it's limited.. but it can add that WOW effect at the end of your chain by dialing in a frequency. As a stand alone pedal, it's not great. If you're using 10+ pedals, it's awesome. Get the LM-2 Limited right behind it (another thought of useless pedal) and you'll be able to dial in tones you once didn't have. Sorry but I disagree, and without playing your own rig behind it you wont hear the subtleness of this beauty.

I have this pedal (going for a full Boss compact pedal collection), it adds a nice something at the end of a signal chain, though subtle. It's also a nice color 🤷♂️
I tried one. To my ears, it added some high end chime. Like a buffer if you signal chain is too long. It didn’t seem worth the price. But it was not a “do-nothing” effect.
The BBE pedal at least plays well with other effects, particularly I had good luck with delay and chorus and bedroom volumes. Not so sure what it would do louder than that. Maybe try running it after a chorus pedal and see how it affects the other pedal's articulation?
Robert please give the EH-2 another shot, chain it after a SD-1, BD-2, and MT-2 before you shelve it indefinitely. The EH-2 is most noticeable when you put it after drives and the fuzz pedals you hate so much. Putting it in a chain after a handful of drives it adds a touch of sparkle that you notice when it's off.
I used to have a Sonic Maximizer. Maybe I still do. Anyway, I used it to brighten up a dark amp. I liked how I could boost the treble without ever sounding harsh for some serious EVH type fun
Hi Robert, Thanks for all the great content you're always producing. There's a review of the Eh-2 on YT by Lee Campbell with spectrum analysis and description of knobs parameters. The sens knob is totally related to pick/input "attack". I think you'll find it interesting as I did. Thanks. 👍🏻
I’ve never had opportunity to play-around with one of these, and I see very mixed-reviews on it. It’s a Boss pedal, and like you, I love my Boss pedals. Until I can run one into my AC-30 & do some tweaking myself, I’ll delay judgement.
It seems that a lot of negative comments about a pedal like this come from it being too subtle compared to how over the top other pedals can be, or else them not being demoed in a context where they are doing what they do best. I could be negative about a pinch table salt because I am demonstrating it by making cake frosting. Also, I know you’re just running a loop through it so you can adjust it in real time, but some of us have a hard time with a looping guitar that is out of tune and after a minute or two, we run screaming from the room. Food for thought.
I used one of these for years during my gigging day's. I put it at the end of my pedal board. Keeps certain frequencies tightend up...if that makes sense.
Interesting, seen a lot of these but never owned one. I do have a DOD FX85 Harmonic Enhancer from the 80s, it seems similar in sound to this BOSS version, DOD has less features but is equally useless. Great video, take care
To my ears the pedal does more than it gets credit for. I could see how this could be useful with muddy P90’s. To get more sparkle. Never tried the pedal, though.
I am listening to headphones, so maybe the effect gets accentuated, and it would be more subtle when playing in a room with an amp. I don’t know. I can only tell from the audio in your clip which I guess is close miced. Turning mix or sensitivity down will basically turn off the effect, so it should not be a surprise that those settings are not affecting the sound much.
😂 had to watch this one! Love your stuff man! The working man’s review love it! ❤ you have a great demeanor for this, kinda like E-ore meets Olga England.
Sounds just like a tone modifier to make a strat sound like a tele or viceversa and not much more. But combined with distortions or overdrive pedals maybe it would have some use. Or not...
I think that the problem with this pedal isn't that it doesn't do much. It's that it is horribly mispriced. If it were 3 times more expensive, maybe even given a name like 'Boutique Enhancer,' I think there are many discriminating players who would be able to hear the subtle artifacts that make the tone warmer and more articulate.😉
You’re right. Kind of like when a piece of art won’t sell at a gallery. They raise the price. Now people are able to ‘see the value’ in the piece. All these new descriptive words come out of the woodwork.
A little off topic, but what is your favorite tuner pedal? I have a Korg pitch black, but I was thinking of either a Peterson, or tc electronic? Your thoughts Robert? Timothy Brosnan
I’ve been big on the TC Electronic Polytune stuff since they first came out, and that’s about all I’ve used. But I’m probably going to go the Peterson Strobostomp the next time I need a pedal tuner. I’ve used a Korg Pitch Black sporadically here and there, but they’ve never really seemed to be the most accurate for me.
it just kinda seems like a basic tone control; bass and treble with a mix. not saying it's a bad thing. but is it worth it? i guess it depends on what some one wants.
I dunno, cause I can hardly notice any difference except for the LED going on and off, it stings my ears a bit on some settings and it seems your guitar is a bit out of tune maybe?
