Thank you for the suggestion! I made a "How I Vlog" video prior to my AT thru hike, but I altered that process somewhat since getting a new camera. I'll add an updated video to the list of future projects!
That’s a lot more than I would have thought BUT we live in times where fast food is $10 so… I wouldn’t worry about the lavish lifestyle. I used to come home and watch your posts and there were times you needed to go to town. The body needs to recoup. I thought it was a well planned trek. 😎
Jenny, I’m curious was the cost of mailing freeze dried meals offset by the cost of mailing. I would have thought the cost/convenience of getting food on trail may have been better. I’m glad you were able to finish your hike and have enjoyed your videos
@@OutdoorsWithJohnUSA you may be right. I had to get boxes sent either way because I needed vitamins and other things so I figured might as well. Also Brian would come visit about once per month so not all the boxes were mailed.
Hello Jenny, nice to hear from you again. First of all I want to wish you a merry Christmas! I also have a question about the physical effects of a hike like this. I suspect that you are extremely fit at the end of the hike. How long does that last and how does it affect your weight if you move a lot less afterwards?
Merry Christmas! That is a great question. I was pretty fit by the end of the hike but as for how long that lasts, my short answer is not long, lol. I’m back at the weight I was before I started the hike. But I’m a healthy weight so it’s not a bad thing for me. The tough thing was losing the muscles in my legs that I had built up! It’s very hard to maintain the amount of exercise and muscle building in my normal day to day life that I had while on my thru hike.
@@davidkendall6801 that is a great question. If I had been earning an income during the 6 months, the expense wouldn’t have hurt so badly, but as it was, I was spending money that I had saved. When I got home, there was little of that left. Which is why it was so tough for a couple months afterward to pay bills. I also had home expenses that I continued to pay during the thru hike which ate up a lot of money. If you can get away without having to pay a rent or mortgage during that time, and/or are in the position to still earn an income while you’re away, that would make things a lot easier!
You can easily spend 5K on a one week cruise. One week at Disney would be just about as much as your whole trip. For 6 months of traveling and adventure you got a bargain!
I think if you added the cost of your wonderful boyfriend coming to visit it would be much more. Every time I’d watch a few videos he’d be there to wine & dine you. 😂❤
Fantastic video and congratulations again, Jenny. So many important points. Just think of the help a retired couple in one 25' class C RV could provide to a group of, say, 3 hikers. Possibly meeting at road crossings, parking lots, parks, trailheads, stores, etc. Shower, laundry, full resupply, cooked meals, a place to sleep, slack packing, clothes drying, water, etc.. The goal would be to increase hikers' chances of success while creating lasting memories for both parties. The RV owners can hit a lot of key parts of the trail. Hiking if they want. Even if the support was just half of the trail or a quarter. It would rocket you forward in a much more affordable, safe, and comfortable way. The RV'S gas cost..... 100 miles hiked per week at, let's say, (with generator time) 15 gallons of gas = $45.00 a week. If I'm half wrong, it's still under $100.00 a week. All the planning would fall on the RV owners. RV's have generators that provide full access to their abilities wherever they are. Free overnight parking at trailheads, stores, state parks, churches, love's, Flying J, welcome centers, rest stops, ect.. Some have water and dump stations for a reasonable fee. I'll bet most Hostels would let you park for a small fee. It's doable for less than you think. A safe daily average RV use (under these circumstances) cost is less than $30.0, including gas. Soooo $210.00 a week ÷ 5 people issss maybe $40.00 a week. Then your food, which the RVers will provide a lot of that I'm sure. So let's say you spend $100.00 a week on food and $40.00 on the RV use for 21 weeks........ that's $4,000.00 WWWOOOOOHHHHOOOOOO. LET'S GOOOO! Disclaimer: If I'm half wrong, it's $8,000.00.
Money comes and goes. The memories you’ll have from this hike will outweigh the cost. You did great!

People spend more on a cruise for a week, or Disney World and you're got way more life experiences for you money.
A trip to Africa for 2 weeks can cost over $20,000 6 months for $12,000 on an amazing trip is no bad
