New sub. I found one of these Black Dog lures on a chain link fence a few months ago (2023). Haven't used it but after watching this vid, taking it out to try it tomorrow. Good videos; quality and quantity.
I’ve had great experiences with their customer service. I bought 2 white g2s a few months back but was only sent one. I sent them an email and within a few days I had the second one, as well as several extra tails and 2 a rigs. Just another example of how cool they are.

@@KeepinItReelFishing Oh, absolutely! Just kidding regarding the "Oh no". It is not a "secret" lure, nor is it the current "flavor of the moment" lure. It continues to be effective and as you pointed out multiple times, it is an excellent segue or transition lure between "typical" bass lures and the swimbait/large lure category.

In winter...slow......SLOW-SLOW. Keep it near hard cover (if you have it) like tree's, stumps, docks, walls, etc. Funny you should ask about rod-reel-and line as I'm almost done editing a seperate video I made on exactly that topic "Rod, Reel & Line for the Shellcracker G2". I should have it uploaded in a day or two.

As always, very comprehensive, informative and entertaining video. Always appreciate your time, and effort put forth into these reviews. There is not too many people who could put together a 1 hour video regarding a bait review, and keep people watching till the end. I agree with you about NJ bass, being 5lbs as a benchmark for quality fish, and 7 to 8 being a trophy for our region. Don't get me wrong, any bass is exciting to catch, but that 5lb plus size takes it to a whole new appreciation. Looking forward to the next one.

I have one G2 for a few years now. I like the lure, but I only caught a 1lb bass on it. Some paint peeled off (not that I think that's a bad thing) an eye fell off and it takes a bit of water in... I have the ghost bluegill color. I'll fish it more because I think I can catch a giant on it. I just can't buy more of them because they don't ship them to Portugal. I think in some sites they ship them but the cost of shipping is absurd... Tackle Warehouse don't sell them anymore...
@@KeepinItReelFishing In the Monster Tackle website they're sold out and in The Coyote Tackle they don't ship to Portugal. I guess I'll keep making my own wakebaits. I caught more and bigger bass on them in 2 trips than I have on the Shellcracker in a few years (several dozen trips)... ;)

man another great video. im from massachusetts and i've really never heard of anyone swimbait fishing around me besides a few ppl. i have a pond right down the street from me that has stocked trout and a herring run which i never knew about. can't wait to get out there with the canoe and some swimbaits. i've only fished from shore so im hoping this is the game changer.
Awesome video man, I think I have 4 or 5 myself they are great baits. Your "swimbaiting the northeast" series is what really got me into the big baits. Now that you've gotten that high 7 and been doing the big baits a while do you think you'll do like a "5 year (or however many it's been)" recap type video of swimbaiting the area, things you've learned, what's been the most successful approaches in your mind?
Thats a great idea MassYak, but I would treat it like a big project (just like those Swimbait the Northeast) vids. They took me a WHILE back when I did them (and I didn't have much on my plate). Now life is much busier so that would be a seriously tough endevor. Heck, this video I chipped away at editing over the course of 5 months! I have learned a lot though.....maybe I will do something and keep it very simple. The info is the important part anyway....not all the b-roll and side clips. I'll see.
Feather hook seems like another nice add on website should sell. Also a clear tail option would be great, since I like to do a chart tail on my bg baits using spike it.

Great review! Bought one of these years ago, haven't used it much but will pull it out again. I see they now have the custom colors, may have to pick one up. Wonder where the "Keepin it reel Yellow perch" color came from lol. btw, you can stop the hooks from crossing by changing the split rings to size 3 (they come with a size 4). Almost a one hour video, over one hour of commercials. I let them roll through if that helps you out any.
You got me. Last year it was the real prey 7.75” trout lures (3 in different colors). I’ve been watching this damn video last couple of days and I could no longer resist. I just ordered a Black Dog “Ghost Bluegill”. Love the content! One question, do you know what kind and size the trebles are?

Hey Alex - I use and really recommend the Falcon XD Cranker. Its not something I think many people would think of, but seriously its perfect for this bait and really all treble hook 'bigger' baits up to 2.5oz. I've had it for about 6 years, and while I've tried the G2 on many true "swimbait" rods, I immediately go back to this Falcon. You can feel it....when a lure and rod are perfectly matched for each other. I actually have a "Gear Check" video where I go over the rod, reel, and line system. It'll be up real soon (I actually had it as part of THIS video.....but it would have added another 20 minutes to it! So....separate vid.

I started getting bigger baits last year. First time throwing the hudd 68 special weedless for 45 minutes last fall i caught a 2.75lber and it had the bait folded in half.....first thing i thought. SHOULDVE GOT THE 8"!
Hey at 20:30 you show a custom color, do you know what they call that color? Their website shows it on there but doesn’t tell you what color it is. I love that color and want to find it! Also do you know what hook’s they’re using? Is it a LazerTrokar?
Also, I just remembered I have more footage of it on my IG. If you look at my post from May 25, 2020 on there you can see more pics/video. To find one put out a post on Swimbait Universe and Swimbait Underground. No guarantees, but I'm always amazed at how people with extra gear are apt to sell to someone who's looking.
To stop hook interference, get short shank #2 hooks. No more hook interference or at least a lot rarer occurrence. The trebles that came on it would break off. First fish and I broke a hook point off on the hookup. Someone told me that was a problem sometimes. I use Trapper short shank #2. When they grab it, they’ll be in the boat. You will once in a while get your line in your hooks, but that’s possible with any treble hook bait
What do think of your savage gear rod now? Also do you think the Shimano Calcutta 200 GT has enough power for smaller baits like the g2? Also have you done anything with the tranX if so for its price could you get anything better in a low profile 300 size reel? And I love the vids I've been waiting for a new one but I like the fact that you make longer videos. Also have you ever used a bubba cracker, and since you did contact the maker you should try and get him to make a bubba cracker g2.
Tranx is the best low pro 300 reel at that price by far imo. Calcutta 200 will handle the g2 just fine, I like anything with a 5:1 gear ratio for swimbaits.
Something is wrong as none of mine do that. The only fix for lures that swim off center is to bend the line tie to the opposite side of the direction its swimming.
@@KeepinItReelFishing You're definitely right, I haven't heard of this bait having this issue. I got for free from a friend, so I suppose I can't complain. I just know this bait catches fish well and I always wanted one so it was a little disappointing when I couldn't get it swimming straight, even at low speeds, despite tuning the line tie to correct the issue. But anyways, thank you for responding, my man! I love your videos, nobody goes so deep into every detail of baits like you do. And you're also not a sellout like most big youtubers! lol.

I always say that "Realistic Reflective" has a strobe light quality and is no joke at night under low light conditions.
Yeah....the effect really surprised the hell out of me the first time I used it. Totally unexpected, and I have to think helps visually.

Feather hook seems like another nice add on website should sell. Also a clear tail option would be great, since I like to do a chart tail on my bg baits using spike it.

Great review! Bought one of these years ago, haven't used it much but will pull it out again. I see they now have the custom colors, may have to pick one up. Wonder where the "Keepin it reel Yellow perch" color came from lol. btw, you can stop the hooks from crossing by changing the split rings to size 3 (they come with a size 4). Almost a one hour video, over one hour of commercials. I let them roll through if that helps you out any.

Hey Alex - I use and really recommend the Falcon XD Cranker. Its not something I think many people would think of, but seriously its perfect for this bait and really all treble hook 'bigger' baits up to 2.5oz. I've had it for about 6 years, and while I've tried the G2 on many true "swimbait" rods, I immediately go back to this Falcon. You can feel it....when a lure and rod are perfectly matched for each other. I actually have a "Gear Check" video where I go over the rod, reel, and line system. It'll be up real soon (I actually had it as part of THIS video.....but it would have added another 20 minutes to it! So....separate vid.

Still through it in the Ebay cart from time to time, but I have SO much other stuff that I have wanted to review for a long time now that I can't add to the list without checking off some of the older projects. I started getting bigger baits last year. First time throwing the hudd 68 special weedless for 45 minutes last fall i caught a 2.75lber and it had the bait folded in half.....first thing i thought. SHOULDVE GOT THE 8"!

Sure. Its called the "DVL" gill (no idea what DVL stands for). It was a collaboration between Black Dog & Realistic Wraps.
Also, I just remembered I have more footage of it on my IG. If you look at my post from May 25, 2020 on there you can see more pics/video. To find one put out a post on Swimbait Universe and Swimbait Underground. No guarantees, but I'm always amazed at how people with extra gear are apt to sell to someone who's looking.
To stop hook interference, get short shank #2 hooks. No more hook interference or at least a lot rarer occurrence. The trebles that came on it would break off. First fish and I broke a hook point off on the hookup. Someone told me that was a problem sometimes. I use Trapper short shank #2. When they grab it, they’ll be in the boat. You will once in a while get your line in your hooks, but that’s possible with any treble hook bait

What do think of your savage gear rod now? Also do you think the Shimano Calcutta 200 GT has enough power for smaller baits like the g2? Also have you done anything with the tranX if so for its price could you get anything better in a low profile 300 size reel? And I love the vids I've been waiting for a new one but I like the fact that you make longer videos. Also have you ever used a bubba cracker, and since you did contact the maker you should try and get him to make a bubba cracker g2.
Tranx is the best low pro 300 reel at that price by far imo. Calcutta 200 will handle the g2 just fine, I like anything with a 5:1 gear ratio for swimbaits.
My HOMIE. I have this bait and it swims off to the side...even when trying to tune the line tie, I cannot get it right. Any advice?
Something is wrong as none of mine do that. The only fix for lures that swim off center is to bend the line tie to the opposite side of the direction its swimming.
@@KeepinItReelFishing You're definitely right, I haven't heard of this bait having this issue. I got for free from a friend, so I suppose I can't complain. I just know this bait catches fish well and I always wanted one so it was a little disappointing when I couldn't get it swimming straight, even at low speeds, despite tuning the line tie to correct the issue. But anyways, thank you for responding, my man! I love your videos, nobody goes so deep into every detail of baits like you do. And you're also not a sellout like most big youtubers! lol.
