In addition to the 2nd prize, he received a public award for “the best competition pianist” and special prizes for “the best performance of a concerto and the Polonaise-Fantasie". Congratulations! I love his interpretation of Chopin.
No defrauda nunca Ingolf Wunder... es un mago del piano. Sus conciertos son para no perdersélos, están llenos de sentimiento impregnados de un sosegado bucolismo.La música brota de sus manos en paralelo a la de su alma
I love his beginning, the way he introduces his great pianissimo is divine. But In the middle and the end I think he could have done it better (although its already outstanding). In 20 years he will gain maturity and be one of the greatest of his time.
축하드립니다! 귀하께서는 제 1회 시비대학교 피아노 콩쿠르에서 우수한 성적(91.8)으로 3위에 입상하였기에 시상을 알립니다. Congratulations! You won first prize at the Sibi University Piano Concour (91.8), so we announce your award.
I suggest the Chopin competition be renamed "Who can imitate Arthur Rubinstein better" competition; the Gramophone be renamed "Critics who compare every Chopin interpretation to that by Rubinstein"
I just couldn't help comment how similar this interpretation is to that by Alexis Weissenberg. I thought I was listening to the exact same thing! I also noticed that Chopin competition has been very good at producing copycat acts. I mean, that women Hiroko Nakamura who won in the 60s played Polonaise A flat exactly like Rubinstein! THIS is probably not any good pianist has emerged during the past decades.
What????? Wunder tries to imitate Rubinstein??? Listen to his "grand polonaise" op.22 in this competition, do you think he is trying to play it like Rubinstein?
Not one of my favorite Chopin works though it does have some beautiful elements - certain sections seem too drawn out; always wonder if Chopin had lived longer he might have revised some of his compositions - though most are just about perfect as is.
You forgot that the piece is called, "Polonaise-Fantasie," not "Kuleta's Ego Strikes Out." "It does not have any flow," is the type of criticism made by dilettantes who have nothing to say and no real ideas or insights.

This is an excellent performance, rightly rewarded by the committee.

Well given that Rubinstein is a Chopin reincarnate, can you blame the judges?
