Brahms melodic genius is so moving...drives me to tears!

Great performance! This piece shows the early genius of Brahms. He composed it when he was 20 years old!

And he almost completely revised (re-wrote) it when he was 56 years old--and that's the version we have here.

If the 1854 version is Brahms' longing for Clara, I feel that this 1889 version, is how Brahms looked back into these years passed. I could hear "Clara" in the 1854 version, but this 1889, Clara didn't existed in the music anymore, but neither I'd say that this is pure Brahms in the music-what is existed in the music is "time", which passed by along with his longing.
This is my impromptu thought at this brisk of the moment, anyway, very beautiful and full of delight.
