- It took me 10 months to build the guitar shown in the video, which is 8 months faster than my first guitar build, which you can watch here: • Full Guitar Build Vide...
This guitar is a Martin OM inspired guitar with a florentine cutaway. I learned how to do the florentine cutaway from Robbie O'Brien's online course at:
www.lutherieacademy.com
My goals for this build were:
1. Learn how to make a florentine cutaway
2. Design and make a custom rosette instead of using a pre-made one
3. Design and make a custom bridge instead of using a Martin-style one
I accomplished all 3 goals, although not without issues! If you would like to see what the issues are, there is a 13 part series of this whole build where I talk about each step. This video is just a compilation of all the mostly non-talking parts of those 13 other separate videos.
Here is the first video of that 13 part series:

Wow...not only does it look stunning, but the sound is of a superior quality...thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Dude. That is a work of art.
Thank you!
I like that you broke it down and explained everything in the series. Cool seeing it all in one video as kind of any asmr thing too
Thanks man!
This is so impressive for a second build. I'm on my first, and don't have all the tools you do. But I just like seeing another new builder make something beautiful... It gives me hope when things are tough. Thanks man.
Thanks so much! I‘m so glad the video helped out in some way! Thanks for watching and stopping to comment!
Incredible craftsmanship. Well thought out build.

Awesome build man. Beautiful guitar and hearing the little squeakers in the background was an extra treat.
Thanks so much!
Looks beautiful. Sounds real nice too
Thanks!
the sound is exquisitie
Amazing build. It sounds so full...
Thanks, it sounds great if I do say so myself! I‘m not an expert on how guitars sound, but it sounds just as good as one you‘d buy, I reckon.
This is VERY helpful! I am on my first build and I am agonizing over everything so much that I have continual analysis paralysis and struggle to progress, even though I have been slowly building and acquiring tools and jigs for years now. It is AWESOME to see you moving right ahead and making steady progress with what you have. Excellent video skills! You made it look easy! Thank you!
Thanks so much! I was going to suggest you watch my first build series because I go into a lot of detail about the trials and tribulations I experienced, lol! But I see you already saw one of those videos. Thanks so much for the comments! And good luck with your build!!
@@CMRWoodworks Yes, I am now working my way through your excellent videos and I also just found you on Instagram and started following. Great content there also!

Amazing work man, what a gift you have for working with wood 🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶

Fabulous tone good work man
Thanks a lot!
I love seeing your processes. I still have a bit of work before my first acoustic is finished, this is excellent motivation to get it done!
Thanks man! Are you doing a video of your acoustic build? I really enjoyed your other builds.
@@CMRWoodworks I am, but since I'm still editing the 7-string I finished in November, it may be a while 🤣
Wow, great build and most importantly, it sounds fantastic.

I really like the understated simplicity of the design...
Thank you!
Un gran trabajo 👏👏👏
Gracias!
What a lovely ring this guitar has.
I was surprised at the tone , really nice.
A good video to watch all the way through, i just wonder who will be playing this in say fifty years time and weather they will be aware of the care and time put in to produce it, i nust wonder if it will still hold that brightness of tone, thank for a good video.
Nice good equipment to built guitar.. I wish had it
At 1:56 I noticed you already glued the neck block to the cutaway side. This is a great idea as I too am building my first acoustic guitar from a kit and was wondering how on earth I was going to clamp that cutaway part (of the side) to the side of the neck block. I always figured that both the neck and tail block were supposed to be glued while the sides were placed inside the mold (that I purchased with my kit). Anyway … great idea! Thank you.
Thank! I can’t claim it, though. There is a course on how to do the florentine part. I purchased the course and followed the steps, although there was a lot I still felt I had to guess on. The course I took was on lutherieacademy.com
I heard somewords from ???? A lil girl or lil boy ??? Is that your children ?? I love that .... workin' like you do .... oh men i love it ..... especially the athmosphere .... workin wood with lil body .... i love that so much .... May GOD always Blessed you and your family at there ..... from Indonesia
Makasih! Ya, itu anak2 aku. Aku suka sekali membuat gitar! Sedang belajar bahasa Indonesia, jadi aku sangat menikmati membaca komentar dari Indonesia!
love the sounds of it .... its hard to have that good sounds
Belíssimo instrumento, construção impecável e sonoridade incrível! Parabéns!
Thanks for the kind comment!
Nice sound
Thank you!
sounds nice...
Thanks!
Very interesting. I like the veneereed back of the headstock. Don't think I've seen that before. It's got a signature look vibe to it.
Thanks! It‘s actually quite normal with custom and boutique builders.
wish to have one of your work for my birthday gift .... i really love to have a new guitar
very cool, Congratulation.
Thanks!
What a bice built, i have made 30+ electrics, but only 3 acoustics, now I am feeling tempted to make another one. Thanks for sharing.
I want to make an electric one day too. Thanks for watching!
@CMR Woodworks & Guitars have you read the book "the responsive guitar" by E. Somogyi?
Not yet. I really want to but I need to save up some money to buy his books 😅
@CMR Woodworks & Guitars i was fortunate enough to buy them new when they were like $150 the set. Buy them as soon as you can, they are full of very valuable information 😀
I definitely will. I think I heard he is writing two more books. I did buy the books by Gore/Gilet last year. So the Somogyi books will complete my collection of high dollar lutherie books so far.
Nice, i love it 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Skillful
Exelente sonido ❤
Just perfekt ❤
Thank you!
With all the tools you have and how smooth it all looked I'm assuming you do this for a living? If not, SUPER cool hobby to pick up. Great video, thanks for making it
I do not do this for a living, but that is my eventual goal for when I retire from my current career!
Awesome
Thanks!
That guitar looks and sounds absolutely stunning. Oh how I wish I had tools and knowledge to build my own guitar. I would probably have a problem doing anything other than that.
Thanks! It was a very enjoyable process. You should give it a go! Decide to do it and then come to terms in your mind with the fact that it will be a long process and be content with that. Start slow, buy the tools you need for just one step at a time. Though it may take quite a while (it was 18 months for my first one), by the end, you‘ve got a guitar and all the tools to make one. From there it‘s just a matter of getting better and upgrading tools and methods as you have the money to do so. I wish you good luck!!
@@CMRWoodworks Thank you for that!!
A-MA-ZING!
I appreciate lt!
Wow!😮
Wow!
I liked the series but this is super cool too! Great channel you are running, you make it look easy but I know it's not.
Thanks so much for watching! And commenting!
Very cool build man! Sounds great! What wood did you use for back and sides and top?
Thanks! Sitka spruce for the top. Claro walnut for the sides and back.
MASTER
How much would you charge to mske one. I would love one of your guitars
Awesome video and guitar! How did you learn so much about guitar making?
Thanks! I took a guitar building course.
I'd be interested in knowing what woods were used. Nice build. Thank you ☺️👍
Thanks for watching! I used ovangkol for the sides and back, torrefied spruce for the top, mahogany for the neck, indian rosewood for the bindings, fingerboard, bridge, and headplate. Bloodwood in a couple of spots, black acacia in a couple of spots, and padauk for the rosette.
Great work! 😍 Please, what is the second song you played at the end? 😇
If it was a song, I don‘t know. I was just making that up on the spot!
👏👏👏Bravo👏👏👍🏽
Hello, thank you for this tremendous effort. Please, I want to know the price of this wonderful guitar. Thank you
Thanks, I’m not selling the guitar so I have not established a price.
Огромный труд 💪💪💪
Thanks!
I've always wondered about oiling the inside(back and side) of my guitar.
16:00 What is that thing you put on there?
I applied a thin coat of shellac.
Meu sonho...
I understand that the guitar is entirely made of solid wood?! What is the price of such a tool?
Que lindo violão show top
Thanks!
I have a question, is it possible to make a guitar that sounds as good as Martin? I have cocobolo, cedar and other types of high quality wood.
I would say it‘s definitely possible. Thanks for watching!
can you tell me which milling cutter you use for the drill press
Sure, it‘s called a Safe-T-Planer. You can buy it at StewMac.com
Tuyêt vời.
Top
What kind of wood did you use for de back and de sides?
It‘s called Ovangkol.
☕️ good people
At 3:00 I was like.....uh....why did you even cut it if you're just going to splice it back together straight....lol
It’s beautiful & sounds great, You need to put a name on the headstock ;)
I do need a name and will have to figure out what to do. Still unsure! I’ll have to learn inlay or something, I guess. Thanks for watching!
I want to build one….I’ve been thinking of buying one of those kits from Martin to get my feet wet, inlay would be tight …easier prob be screen it on like a lot of mfg do
Where did you get the red vice?? Thanks
I got mine from StewMac.com. It was on sale at the time so I grabbed one. It’s called a repair vise, or a carver’s vice. You can get basically the same thing from other places like Garrett Wade or Infinity Tools.
👍
