    Really love seeing you and your Dad working together on the projects. I lost my Dad a couple of years ago, but I'm thankful of all the time he spent with me in the garage growing up. I'm sure I must of frustrated the hell out of him cutting up many a piece of prime timber and using up countless screws and nails! Seeing you guys working together reminds me so much of me and my Dad, so please keep the videos coming.

    I converted my loft to warm roof like this. Made a huge difference to the house: cooler in summer, cheaper to heat, and the loft is completely dry so you can store stuff without worrying about it getting damp or covered in atmospheric grime.

      How did you deal with ventilation? I have 200mm rockwool vented from the eves but the cowboys who did my soffits fu*ked that up. I have to do it again and would like a warm roof solution

    • @GuyChapman
      @GuyChapman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@David_Walker16-3-51 theres a 50mm airgap between the insulation and the felt, and the soffits are vented (PVCu). The rafters are 150mm, there's 100mm Cellotex between, taped, then cross-lined with 50mm Cellotex so no cold bridge.

    Hi Guys, What a fantastic quality workshop you've created,😎 All your hard work has paid off in spades.😍 I re-roofed my double garage with those plastic coated steel profile sheets but ran out of money to insulate it & the condensation is quite bad when it's icy in Winter, One of these days I'll get it finished. Love to see you & your dad working together on these projects, Thanks for the videos.

    Hi guys great build a man needs his shed so love your build. We are lucky in New Zealand timber is plentiful most homes in NZ are made of timber. Many are not insulated so the government has free loans and subsidies to make our homes warmer. I worry about your dad walking around all all those broken pallets and having a fall. My dad had a bad fall at his home and never recovered. He pasted away 8 weeks later . Not hard to see how much you love your dad so not trying to scare you but thats why I worry about those things. Thank you for sharing this video with us.

    Great job Mark and Dad, you need to vent the interstitial space between the underside of the Galvanized sheets and your new insulation boards, simple trickle vents should do the trick. What about a vent hole in the wall to expel air when spraying. Your propane heater will add gallons of moisture into the atmosphere in there ! Well done to you both, beds, sink and cooker next !! Regards, Paul

    I had the same condensation issue in my metal garage. We don’t get the same cold temperatures here in Australia but it can get to mid 40’s during summer. I used a foil thermal barrier, followed by insulation bats and then 4mm MDF sheets which have one side coloured gloss white. The white ceiling finish has brightened the garage considerably by reflecting light and the sheets reduce the amount of dust falling from above onto the car. I would highly recommend doing this.

  • @iles1995
    @iles1995 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lovely job, as others have said it's nice to see you and your Dad working together. One bit advice though, corrugated tin roofs 'sweat' for a past time and you'll often see condensation forming on the underside. Usually if you were insulating rafters with a tin roof, you'd leave a small ventilation gap behind the insulation (20-50mm) at the top and bottom of the ridge so that the outside air can wick away any moisture that forms on the bottom of the corrugated sheets. Spray insulation is the only way around that, hence why it's used for things like shipping container conversions. As you sealed your ridges with foam, let us know how you get on and whether you have any developing damp/mould issues.

    Hello guys or rather, the "Dynamic Duo " ! Brilliant work ! You made me laugh ....when the price of timber drops ......don't hold your breath !😅😅 l did wonder where the mini was . That 6mm beauty board sounds ideal .We used to use a peelable white paint in our spraybooths . But in reality you have to weigh up the cost of making the room completely dust proof against how many times will you use it . And !!! A good flat down will do the trick ! Keep up the good work !

  • @threepotMR2
    @threepotMR2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great job guys! You'll tinker in there till for decades. I've just left my kingspan ceiling as taped up kingspan. It's dust proof etc, and after all, its just a shed ceiling. I just scuffed it up with scotch brite and spray gun emulsion painted it, no one notices..... original plan was to fly over it with 9mm OSB ply, but its just more weight, more expense (especially at the moment) and more effort. Maybe one day. I insulated my roof same as you in the dream of a warmer garage - which it will be, but the magic is summer - it'll be really cool in there if you can keep the doors shut. The silver foil reflects the heat of the sun bobby dazzler!

    Lads, I love the work you are doing and the regular content. Can I offer some friendly advice from a builder with 35 years experience? The thermal boarding work is of an excellent quality but please do allow the air gap above those thermal boards to be ventilated or you will get condensation building up on the underside the steel sheet roof. Particularly if you use a propane gas heater which produces moisture as the burnt gas reacts with oxygen. A simple row of vents at eaves level, in the facia, and an air gap at the top of the roof slope (to the outside air) will allow the roof to vent itself. Remember the steel sheets, like a sheet of single glazed glass, will be the first to suffer from condensation as the 'dew point' for those materials is below that of the internal air. Low pitched roofs, like yours, suffer more as the condensation will form drips that cannot run away because of the low angle. Simple ventilation will draw away the slightly moist air and you will get no condensation. I do hope this helps you keep the new workshop both warm and dry. Please accept this advice in the friendly and helpful vein that I intended. Steve

      Hi I really appreciate this, thank you for for taking the time to explain the ventilation. Now you’ve explained it it makes total sense what you’re saying, we will definitely vent that bit above the insulation 😁👍
