My 6 year old Daughter (Finn-Riley) has been watching you with me for over a year. She just begged me to "say hi to Sunny" and tell him "if you know you know." She has been cooking with me for a while, but ever since she found you she watches you cook at least an hour a day, has her own chef jacket now, and every time she hears the word rosemary, even from another room, she yells IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW. Just wanted to say thank you, not only for some great recipes, but more for being an inspiration to all types - including a budding 6 year old chef.
@@thatdudecancook I bet you just made a young girl very happy, as a mum of a 10 month old myself right now, my heart is melting. And ofc your recipe looks great too!
This Orange Chicken recipe is just spot on my friends, the double fry allows it to stay at the perfect level of crispiness and the batter really protects the chicken from drying out in any way, 11/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND and HAPPY COOKING to you all!
I can't wait to make this one, man!! My girlfriend has a somewhat simple palate, so I don't make too many exotic dishes. But she said she likes this one, and I know she's only ever had the buffet bullshit. Can't wait to blow her mind with this! YOUuuuuu know I loveyouandI'mout!!!
My son *only* ever gets orange chicken or General Tso's chicken when we get takeout. I sent him this recipe. It might be enough to get him to cook lol.
I made this tonight for dinner and enjoyed it very much. The texture on the chicken was great. It’s just like Chinese take out chicken fingers, crispy and airy. As he says in the video it kept the inside of the chicken extra juicy. I have made a few different orange chicken sauces and this is my new favorite. This was the first recipe of yours I have made and I’m excited to try others!
Thanks. Tried this tonight. Learnt an important lesson. If sonny is lowering chicken in oil one at a time, then that is how its done!! Still, pulled it all together at the end, and it worked out great. Cheers 👍
Thanks for that tip, I'm usually one to just chuck it all in and try to separate it with the slotted spoon lol. I made this tonight for my family and it turned out great thanks to your "don't be greedy" tip. Thank you
mirin can be ordered online and usually at a wegmans or whole foods,or an asian store like h mart. you want it. it's also needed if you want real teriyaki. we use it in a lot of stuff
Seriously the best video you have ever made - so much quality comedy, good cooking, and just gorgeous money shots of the food. Amazing. BUT WHY THE HECK ARE YOU SO OBSESSED WITH FRESNO CHILIS??
Downloaded this for supper sith my family made way more than the recipe called for...absolutely zero regrets...didn't even have rhe sherry or wine but whoa Nelly was this an epic win with my family...wow this one's archived
Contrary to what many people believe, orange chicken actually comes from China, not America! The original dish is called "chun pei" and is made with diced chicken, dried orange peel, and other spices, and is a classic dish from Hunan province. Chinese immigrants adapted the recipe to suit American tastes, and it became popular in the 1980s when it was introduced to the menu of the Chinese-American fast food chain, Panda Express. Nowadays, orange chicken is still inspired by traditional Chinese cooking and can be found in many Chinese restaurants, often with their own unique twist on the recipe. The dish's evolution is a great example of how cultures can influence each other, even through something as simple as food.
Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but a Y shaped potato peeler for large strips of zest is best. As an experienced chef it's rare to find good techniques and recipes, and even the equipment recommendations are solid as well. Funny AF. Nice job bro.
Wow! Thanks for this Sunny! Orange chicken is super underrated and one of my favourite dishes of all time! I just clicked on the video and I'm so excited to watch it.
Zojirushi Rice Cooker, thats a good piece of equipment. I would recommend an Aroma Rice Cooker if you are on a budget, it will be great for 90% of people.
Damn I knew this would be good but it was way better than I expected. The sauce is definitely the best part, it was absolutely delicious. I added some orange juice to it and put in a bit more zest & peels to make it super orangey. Looking forward to using it for a bunch of other meals. Keep it comin'
Made this last night and it came out delicious... Just one question -- How do you get those battered up pcs of chicken to not stick on the bottom of the pan in the first fry? -- Thanks Sonny! Love the channel!
Hey this beard merch looks intriguing for my Pops Fathers Day gift. Gonna check it out thanks! Oh and I like the shave look you’ve done. Handsome. Orange chicken, great flavors..
Dude... I came across this video yesterday in deep TH-cam session .tonight I followed the recipe (made the batter) and cooked chicken rice and broccoli... OmG!!!!! This is the best batter ever! I am going to use this for fish and Shrimp and much more! It's not heavy or greasy either! Awesome job!
Hey Sonny! I love your channel! Thanksgiving & Xmas were a hit because of you. Im still an uber noob & was wondering if you could clarify something: when deep frying, do you take the temp of the oil all the way to 325F ( first fry) then drop in the chicken or do you try to over temp then when the chicken is added lowers to 325F? I brought the oil to 325F, added the chicken ( in batches) & 5he temp dropped almost 100 degrees. Thanks & love the vids homie!
I get it . . . (?) Chefs like to do things the hard way - I used to be one! I, too, have made plenty of Panda Express "clone" Orange Chicken. However, I've found that using frozen orange juice concentrate (instead of juice and zest) gets you to the finish line without so much . . . hassle. Cheers!
Just before i watch the whole thing. Chinese resturant style sweet and sour sauce i accidentally figured out making sweet peppers and onions for a sweet and hot philly cheesesteak - red bell pepper sliced long and super thin, pad of butter start to sautee with a pinch of MSG - then 3 2 1 in terms of parts, I find one tbs with single portion parts after your red bell peppers - 3 olive oil, 2 grenadine 1 lime margarita mix. Sautee down until the liquid thickens - the pepper adds the solids you find in sweet chili sauce... and I know what your thinking... "you said resturant style sweet and sour, not spring roll sauce?!?!?" Their the same, the only difference is red chili flakes, start adding with a pinch and adjust - you can't take the flakes out, you can always add more.
If you do the batter, you have to double fry. Even triple fry. Its a thing for a reason. Soft fry, let cool to room temp, and then fry again, Its mandatory
You can tell when the shaoxing wine is not there that's something I learned with my dad when we started learning how to cook with a walk and doing Chinese foods
I made this last night and just went to sneak a leftover bite out of the fridge and no bullshit helen keller could still hear that crunch from her grave 🙌
Just made this recipe, pretty dang good. Two suggestions, cut the dark soy sauce amount by half, it's just to much. Second, the double fry might not be that necessary, I completed the second fry for 4 minutes on one batch and it way over cooked the chicken. I suggest skipping the second fry or at least cut it down to about one minute. Other than that, is spot on. Thanks for the recipe, Dude!
Breast wouod have been a much simpler choice, but mine came out great. The orange peel was just showing off that was really hard to even try... Serious knife skill on that dude. Seems really easy to make a lemon chicken version from here. Great receipe6
Thanks for teaching me an interesting juggling trick. I'm going to incorporate it not only into my list if potential hobbies IRL but also into a D&D campaign I'm in where my character loves to juggle using the Magic Stone cantrip. ^_^
I can vouch for the finger trick with rice. My Filipino wife actually showed me that same trick used by both her and her family. ^_^ NOTE: It does depend on the size of your hands, however. Or at least it does between her and myself.
Chef now that your in Texas whats your take on bbq? There's a lot cooking on youtube magazines, word of mouth. I'm from MA is it worth the visit. Any place you enjoy having a meal?

Also a side note to frying this way, the frying oil stays cleaner, helping you kinda stretch it out for re use longer.
Made this last night and man it was amazing. Still tasting the flavor this morning.
