    This may be one of my favorite videos on the topic of serving ever. You talk about things I don’t often see other YT coaches talk about, such as anchoring, focussing on your hands to keep a loose arm, transferring body weight from heel to toe to load up instead of down and up, and so much more. I appreciate you talking about your own experience and sharing what goes through your head as you’re serving. Fantastic video Jonathan! Would love to see more videos like this. 🙌

      I would just like to add that comment and one you also stated in the video.
      I had been emulating the Federer serve, but I too found power hard to achieve as well. I looked at Warinka serving and tried to emulate that more so and noticed more power right away.
      So, the take home is that overloading the legs doesn't guarantee racquet head speed and snap. Simplify the motion and allow the racquet speed to take over. I see that in your motion

    Very informative, nicely done, one of the best straight forward videos I have seen, my only request if you could explain how the racket drop is generated. Do you think about it or what are the key elements to make it naturally happen?

    • @ChangBangTennis
      @ChangBangTennis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! I don't think about it. When I jump and go up to hit the serve, my racket naturally drops. I will try to explain more in another video because I have seen a similar question in the comments.

    I think that racquet drop is the most complex part of the serve. Personally, I can only do this by letting the racquet fall a little behind my head before accelerating (leak racquet drop leak)

    Great video. You should do a video talking about the movement after the serve. Not too much talk about that. Typically returning the return. Or the split step after the serve, split inside or behind the baseline? I'm too used to playing players that can't return well so my movement after the serve is bad

    Hey I love this video but one question, after bringing my racket up how should I drop my racket behind me before swinging?

    • @ChangBangTennis
      @ChangBangTennis  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you can, just let it drop behind you and see what happens. Don't need to force the racket drop. One way to help with this is to think about swinging up to hit the serve.

    Yeah... I move the front leg around as the toss goes up just for the micro adjustments. It's all about natural awful old person balance. Just remember to start 6-10 inches behind the line. 🙂. I'll FF (more than half way into the baseline.) about 1 in 30 serves which at 55+ is a win.

    Whats your opinion on the holding position and angle of the racquet face while holding ? From the back we can sometimes see the edge of the racquet and sometimes the back of the racquet face/strings. Is it personal or there are some reasonings behind this?

    • @ChangBangTennis
      @ChangBangTennis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say its personal.
      I thought it was the back of the racket face/strings, but after rewatching the video, it looks like the edge of the racket. I really don't think about this at the holding position. I think about how it feels at the holding position. I don't feel I turn my racket to any set angle at the holding position. I just feel my the weight of my racket and a loose wrist, ready to explode up on the ball. Hope that helps.

    • @ChangBangTennis
      @ChangBangTennis  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1. Practice to get consistency 2. Commit to the serve. Make sure you follow through on the serve. That doesn't mean swing with 100% power though. You can do 50-75% power if the serve is not consistent and then work your way up.

    Merry Christmas ChangBang! I've been waiting for this one ever since we played XD. Loved the video - I especially agree on the part about bringing your racket arm quickly as opposed to lagging it. I've experimented a lot with lagging the racket arm after watching other TH-cam videos and it really threw my timing off in matches as well. I've recently been serving much more consistently and double faulting less ever since I thought about bringing my racket arm up faster than my tossing arm (since it has to travel a longer path) so that both arms are ready together when the toss has reached its peak, which has also by secondary effect allowed me to toss a bit lower and introduce fewer variables that could go wrong as you mentioned. Kind of reminds me of this Agassi tip: th-cam.com/users/shortsot_F1ngvYIM
    Interesting point on the tossing hand anchoring, I might try that myself. Do you have any particular tips on hitting a good kick serve? Would love to see a future vid on that if so

    • @ChangBangTennis
      @ChangBangTennis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to you too! Very happy to hear that you're more consistent with your serve! Having a consistent serve is better than hitting a massive bomb that only goes in once in a while. At the end of the day, how you bring the racket up is personal preference. I just like the faster racket up better.
      I watched the Agassi video and I 100% agree. I will do a video on kick serves later! Thanks again

  • @jchan810
    @jchan810 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you should not move the hitting arm fast during the backswing. It should be slow to help accelerate the racket smoothly.

    • @ChangBangTennis
      @ChangBangTennis  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can also take it back slow. I like to set up faster.

  • @proshepherd
    @proshepherd ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to stop rotating when you make contact. Rotate, then strike the ball, allowing the energy from your rotation to travel through your arm.

    • @ChangBangTennis
      @ChangBangTennis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If that helps you with your serve, I am all for it. I personally feel I rotate maybe as I'm hitting, but for sure a little more after I hit.
