I have to say these are the kind of conversations I love to have with people not on this particular subject but just being in-depth from one with someone who gets it. It honestly like energizes me when most of the time I'm half awake his life is so boring and I'm so awesome!
That was a really interesting discussion guys! I wondered for a time if I might be ENTP after that was the result I got from Cognitive Type's vultology analysis. Especially since so many people mistype as INFJ I felt like I had to consider it seriously and not be too attached to the INFJ label. Ultimately I decided that my experience matches the Ni-Se axis much more than Ne-Si and using CPT's idea of convergent/divergent stacks Fe-Se definitely seems more likely as a divergent stack than Ti-Si. So I still believe my type to be INFJ. It's really interesting what you said Harry about many Ni descriptions actually fitting more an unconscious Ni. I never really related to that dreamlike quality of Ni.
Hey man, thanks for checking out the discussion and weighing in! I thought that Harry's comment about Ni was fascinating as well. How is that you're experiencing Ni, if not in a dreamlike fashion?
Funny, I went through the same thing. I settled on probably being an ISTP that uses Ni more than Se. (In OPS it'd be a jumper version, other systems might call it 'tertiary function preference') I might still be wrong about my type though. :)
@@AutoAlchemy Hey! I am an INFJ (with main reference point being Harry's CPT) and I also feel like Ni isn't dreamlike at all. In a meta-awareness way (like actively trying to be aware of what I do a level above the actual doing of it) I can describe it as feeling like this quest for reconciliation. I want to see what something is like in general (in the sense of opposite of manifestation?), I would be asking questions of different cases with one or two parameters altered so that I can see the pattern of patterns. (As in, if the patterns are changing according to case, then there should be a pattern in that way of changing to. In fact, I feel like the contrast between N and S and the contrast between T and S should also somehow get reconciled. I could see that may be they can't be, but I know I look for it.) I also really relate to wanting to give the right sense to people whenever I am communicating. I want to put the emphases at the exact right places, I want them to understand the most core part of the information from the accessories, or from the less fundamentally important. In all this is very conscious. It's much more of a quest, than an epiphany. Of course everyone can seek such logical satisfaction, but this being the default and perpetual way of taking in information might be what makes this Ni-dom. So yeah! This was some idea of what Ni can feel like. Though I always feel the moment I use the real words it might get too crystallised and deconstructed from its crystallised form and I am not sure if that will be true...therefore, an idea only! Phew.
@@AutoAlchemy It's interesting what Harry said about that we ENTPs access Ni in a dreamlike fashion (I couldn't understand everything in video because his accent and I'm Spanish), but it can be that sensation, that I get just when i'm falling asleep, of eureka, of everything fitting in a unique elegant solution that includes all the aspects of the problem? I feel that when I'm in that dreamy state I can reach a part of my mind that can think so clear, quickly... Is that my Ni? One example of how it helps me in real life is that when I was 14 years old, after some days trying to solve a Turkish alliance (ring-puzzle that can be solved with 2 elegant movements in less than 5 seconds) without having any external clue of how to solve it apart of my father telling me: the man who sold it to me showed me that it can be done in few seconds, but I don't remember how because I was drunk. And after that days I was only getting to solve it step by step in a long way that took me some minutes. But one night I dreamed just before waking up, when morning is starting, that I caught the ring and did it in some seconds, understanding the deep system that underlies in it. So I woke up, took the ring and without needing to test it I was running to my father saying: I dreamed how to solve it. And I solved it in real life in few seconds exactly like in the dream. As this example I have had a lot of moments like that, finding the solution of all kind of problems when I'm between the conscious and the subconscious. Hope I've explained clearly.
Nghyyyeeeh! Here I see a video that I really want to see and when I click on it, I'm welcomed by "LOL IN 4 DAYS YOU CAN WATCH THIS" How do you think that makes me feel? I feel neglected and hurt. And mad at my mom for some reason.
Erik Thor was wrong about me too. He said I was an ENFP 😒. It seems to be a language barrier though, possibly? His test asks a lot of questions about "thoughts and feelings," which in English are two different things, but in his test are treated as one and the same. This made it difficult for me to choose the appropriate answers, and made the incorrect result unsurprising. No disrespect to Erik, of course. Anyway, this is a great conversation - look how easily ENTP and INFJ vibe with each other. We can get along really well when we're on the same wavelength (as long the INFJ doesn't bring up the topic of chores. Don't do it, INFJ, just don't). I also fully agree that our Ti and Si are an unbreakable team, and I enjoy being aware of them doing their thing in my psyche! Being alone to nurture that team is absolutely spot on. Harry, I really like your description of the _unconscious_ Ni - this is a good observation, and the commonly accepted definition certainly can confuse the subject when testing himself. Jeremy, I've dabbled in poetry myself. Officially, I don't like poetry, but if and when the whim strikes, I do like the showing off that I can do at poetry circle, lol. Also, I have been writing a novel myself since I was 12 years old - I hope that one day you'll read it. (I haven't actually finished a chapter yet, but I'll let you kno...) Anyway, this is what happens when you have Harry on your channel - he brings out the talkative beast and you get honoured with the same type of wall o' text comments that I'm partial to leaving on his videos. Now I have to rewatch this because I zoned out once or twice. (Happy to do it though, it's very interesting.)
Hey guys! I'll second Jeffrey's last comment about still chewing on the concepts, and comparing and contrasting this model to the other ones, haha. Indeed, there has been so much misunderstandings of the original Jungian functions due to multiple definitions and tests that miss the point that the fuctions were part of a larger system within the psyche. I'm going to watch the follow up video too. Thanks for sharing new perspectives! Best regards.
Zeinab! Yes! There are so many misunderstandings, and yet because the concepts are sometimes 'close enough' people get mileage out of them... Which perpetuates confusion. I'm sure there are many things that I get wrong, but I'm always trying to refine my understanding. BTW, I've loved some of the interviews with MLVF on the Forever Jung channel. Thank you again for pointing me in that direction!
I was waiting for this video!! Thank you so much! 😍 I would think that the feminine and masculine is fluid. I always felt like within myself there are several 'voices' or characters that come to the fore depending on thr situations.... Ahahaha that makes me sound schizophrenic 😂 but I guess being a writer it sort of appears to me like the functions being members of a group of heroes in like a fantasy campaign where each is different but vital for the success of the whole and some will then take the lead depending on the obstacles they are facing 🤔 Lmao I also typed as an infp once and then even as an intj for a long time and I was like this is so not me! Jeffrey please do continue with ur entp channel!! I really feel that there needs to be more 'real' content for entps!
Thanks for the support, Shadi! When it comes to the channel, I think I'm in it for the long haul. 😆 As a writer, I also appreciate the metaphor of the various characters who come to the fore as needed. It makes sense, and I bet most people experience life this way even if they wouldn't conceptualize it like that. Perhaps as a writer, you're just a little closer to the material of the unconscious.
Tap into fi with your childhood faith system and music that makes you recall some deep painful love that was very real for you. I think entp's fi sucks because it is uncomfortable. 4th and 8th seem linked
Interesting about the Erik Thor test. I’d be curious if you got turbulent or assertive with the infj result. I got roughly what I expected to get: “Assertive intj” I always score as an Intj, Istj, or even entj. I think with my opt type (MF-Ne/Ti-CS/B) it makes sense. Even with the result of Entj, because my Ti is so gosh dang masculine and locked onto efficiency and things working(cause if they don’t it tied to identity and I can’t have that be wrong), it tends to be misunderstood as “Te like”. Combined with Intuitive Dom but a weird lean towards Oi, I get confused for savior Ni, or a chaotic Istj in these test or even by friends. Thanks for the vid! (I’m on mobile and it won’t let me use enter so this is one long paragraph😕)
Yes! I'm always curious about how those traditional dichotomies might be 'encoded' in the OP types. My F-Fe is double-activated, so I'm not surprised that I often land on an F score under those dichotomy tests. Sometimes my TI feels a little asymmetrical. It's too theoretical and not grounded in data (TiSi Sleep last) so it feels somehow incomplete. 😅
AutoAlchemy yeah infj seems about what I’d expect. You’re very Nt/Nf. I’d think your parts look more “traditionally” Infj (Db masc. savior intuitive + Db fem Fe) than what my intj results seem to be showing (intuitive + Db masc. Oi + Db masc. savior Logic). NGL dude, I feel like I don’t fully understand masculine Ne lol. It’s something I have to study more. And like yes referring these back to what other systems say is super fascinating.
I swear to lord, every time i take the personality test its something different. Like all this years it gave me the result that I'm an intp, then i couldnt relate to some aspects of being an intp. Then the test told me I'm an infp, then i did some digging and figured that I'm an infj. Then the test told me I'm something completely different type which i don't even remember . So I'm confused again if i REALLY am an infj. This is seriously driving me crazy If anyone can provide some insight, I'd be very thankful :") take me out of this misery so i can move on and continue doing nothing. I don't know if i'm an ENTP or an INTP... I don't know if it's a very common question, but if you have any tips to help me with that, I'll be very grateful. Ps: i'm from brazil, so if my english seems strange forgive me hahahah
Nothing strange about your English. It's a good question! My recommendation is this... Sit down and think a recent time that you ranted about something to a friend. Or maybe you didn't rant to a friend. Perhaps you jotted it all down in a journal or a blog. The point is to pinpoint something that really grinded your gears enough that you had to express it. Have you thought of something? Can you think of more? Generate a list of ~5 rant-worthy topics and then tell me what they were. You don't have to explain in depth. All that's needed is a few words to express the overall topic of each rant, something like: 'How crappy Spotify's website is' or 'how irritating this person is.' Once I see your list, I'll take an educated guess at your type!
@@AutoAlchemy 1) Dress code: man my old job requires us to wear a suit and, as I said before, I live in Brazil and, believe me, here it is too hot to wear this until 4 pm. 2) the "be an expert" speech: what irritates me about this is that they say you can only be good at one thing. why can't i be really good at other things that are not really my career? I also think that this speech is what prevents polymatism today. 3) extremely detailed routines: how does someone get to know exactly what to do next Friday at 8 pm? I think that kind of thing is very inflexible. What if I don't want to do what my schedule tells me to do? very limiting, although it is sometimes necessary. 4) The politically correct ... I think I don't even need to explain the reason hahaha 5) mandatory vote: in brazil we are obliged to vote and if we don't vote we have to justify the reason and if we don't justify we pay a mute. this is kind of anti-democratic right? you have the right to vote but if you don't you have to justify or pay, strange right? I think the best thing in this case was just to consider abstention Well... i think that's it.
@@heitorrodrigo5349 A very thorough reply. Thanks for taking the exercise seriously, dude! From what I'm seeing here, I'm leaning heavily in the direction of ENTP. There are a few reasons for that. With few exceptions, your rants will fall into one of two camps: rants about people and rants about things. According to Jung, both Thinking and Feeling are both ‘rational functions.’ Thus they are ‘decisively influenced by reflection,’ per Psychological Types. Naturally, reflection is an activity performed by people, whether through logic or values. On the other hand, Sensing and Intuition deal with irrational information. They each present to you a world of 'things,' running the gamut from concrete objects in the real world to the highest of abstractions. Your middle two functions will be relatively balanced, but your top function will have trouble communicating with its opposite. Therefore, you're more inclined to go lopsided in the domain of the first function, and this lopsidedness will reflect in how you end up ranting about things. Everyone processes everything, so the question is which of these 2 buckets has more gravity. Some people, myself included, ‘thingify people.’ You ask me a question about my siblings, and due to the lopsided gravity of my irrational function, I might end up rambling about what video games my brother and I played together, implying the dynamics of our relationship rather than specifying them. Or maybe I will say something general and philosophical about brotherhood itself. Others might ‘people-fy things.’ You just wanted to know the specs of their new car, and they’re suddenly telling you all about how their dad helped them decide on a vehicle because they’re a ‘Subaru family.’ All of this to say, your rants seem to emphasize an imbalance in the irrational functions and therefore a difficulty processing 'things.' This is why I say that ENTP makes sense. Of course, it's also about the particular things that you seem stuck on. What bothers you is control, restriction, limitation, narrowing, and there's a strong theme of sensory restriction at that. Wear this, be this, schedule this, don't say this, vote this.
@@AutoAlchemy Thanks for the answer! it makes sense, i really have problems with control / restriction. about what you said when someone asks about your brother and you tend to have a ramble about the games you played together reminded me of my brother too, we played teken for hours ... I always lost hahaha anyway thanks again for the answer, it really helped me a lot
I tested as ENTP on 16personalities 1 year ago but recently INFJ on another (can't remember which one) I took tests at two different times in my life. I'm open to being an INFJ but I just can't relate to the memes/stereotypes. Help???
I think the pandemic has done a lot to obscures people's types by radically throwing them out of equilibrium, so keep that in mind and take changes in results with a grain of salt. Beyond that, I have a video called "ENTP and INFJ Compare and Contrast' that may help!
@@AutoAlchemy @AutoAlchemy I have heard of the shadow persona. Is it possible that I am recently switching between INTJ/ENTP? Or an ENTP in an Ne/Fe loop? P.S. Thanks. It's me in drag, casually eating a rose, as normal boys do.
@@matildafyorde8047 Personally I think sometimes those concepts can muddy things up to the point that it's hard to see yourself clearly, but it seems you're on the right track. I would say the most important thing to extract out from both the notions of looping and the shadow persona is that the best evidence of your type comes from when you are in a healthy and energetically satisfying state. (Think about what induces flow versus what doesn't.) I also think of the personality as self-regulating and seeking homeostasis, so when you're too one-sided with your preferences for too long you can experience a 'crash.' If this is a compensating crash, what might that say about what you were doing too much of? Does this give you any hint about your default preferences which may have run themselves into the ground?
@@AutoAlchemy Thank you, your videos are of great help. I have experienced immense mental stress lately involving interactions with the people around me. Maybe that's why my Fe is at an all time high. Recently I have found myself walking in eggshells (which is usually NOT me). I am also experiencing complete distrust with everyone. I feel like everyone and everything is out to get me. At night I also have trouble sleeping because I am continuously planning elaborate revenge schemes in my head. Sounds petty, I know. 🤣
@@AutoAlchemy Well I've taken multiple different mbti tests and I've gotten infj all the time. However, my enneagram type corresponded more to ENTP which I found odd but I was like "no way haha I'm no extrovert". But i started wondering and yesterday I found a new test in some description box and I got ENTP. I still believe that I'm not an ENTP based off the fact I hate uncertainty. I think I'm a feeler type too but most people see me as cold which is something typical for INFJ and I am more on the extroverted side of an introvert if that make sense (I guess ambivert) . Though I do resonate with some ENTP traits like exploring concepts and skipping through details, I don't think I am one. 🤔 I think it's due to my low sensory and high intuition that this confusion came upon me.
I think we often run off adrenaline when we speak so our mouths can get very dry. Basically we dump adrenaline while ideating. For further reference compare comedians that ideate on the fly vs talk show hosts that read scripted material. Fear is our friend.
Absolute pleasure to collaborate with you my friend!
Likewise! Let's do it again sometime. I'm interested to learn more about CPT and its implications for growth and the individuation process 😯🙌

All that's needed is a few words to express the overall topic of each rant, something like: 'How crappy Spotify's website is' or 'how irritating this person is.' Once I see your list, I'll take an educated guess at your type!

1) Dress code: man my old job requires us to wear a suit and, as I said before, I live in Brazil and, believe me, here it is too hot to wear this until 4 pm.
I think I don't even need to explain the reason hahaha
5) mandatory vote: in brazil we are obliged to vote and if we don't vote we have to justify the reason and if we don't justify we pay a mute. this is kind of anti-democratic right? you have the right to vote but if you don't you have to justify or pay, strange right? I think the best thing in this case was just to consider abstention
Well... i think that's it.
Others might ‘people-fy things.’ You just wanted to know the specs of their new car, and they’re suddenly telling you all about how their dad helped them decide on a vehicle because they’re a ‘Subaru family.’
All of this to say, your rants seem to emphasize an imbalance in the irrational functions and therefore a difficulty processing 'things.' This is why I say that ENTP makes sense.
I always lost hahaha anyway
thanks again for the answer, it really helped me a lot
if there is any question whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, you are probably not an INTP lmao
I tested as ENTP on 16personalities 1 year ago but recently INFJ on another (can't remember which one)
I took tests at two different times in my life.
P.S. Very cool avatar 👌 😎
@@AutoAlchemy @AutoAlchemy
I have heard of the shadow persona.
(Think about what induces flow versus what doesn't.)
I also think of the personality as self-regulating and seeking homeostasis, so when you're too one-sided with your preferences for too long you can experience a 'crash.' If this is a compensating crash, what might that say about what you were doing too much of? Does this give you any hint about your default preferences which may have run themselves into the ground?
@@AutoAlchemy Thank you, your videos are of great help. I have experienced immense mental stress lately involving interactions with the people around me. Maybe that's why my Fe is at an all time high. Recently I have found myself walking in eggshells (which is usually NOT me). I am also experiencing complete distrust with everyone. I feel like everyone and everything is out to get me.
At night I also have trouble sleeping because I am continuously planning elaborate revenge schemes in my head.
Sounds petty, I know. 🤣

ah wtf i got typed as entp today but i would get infj before sooo thats weird
Ooo. Where/who did the ENTP typing come from?
Why do all entps drink something while they were speking ?Not only this video, whole videos that entps spoke.
I think we often run off adrenaline when we speak so our mouths can get very dry. Basically we dump adrenaline while ideating. For further reference compare comedians that ideate on the fly vs talk show hosts that read scripted material. Fear is our friend.
I heard a cat. Do you have a cat?
Me too!
