We had the original Dark Castle, but I was too young to beat it properly. I remember hearing about this game a few years later and always regretting missing it. Thanks for posting this vid!
yes! this was one of the best platform games ever. the dizzy noises drove my parents insane, and i remember being legitimately creeped out by those dragons. beautiful memories of sunny days spent staring at a 16 inch black and white screen...
To be more precise, it's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, by JS Bach. It's a fantastic piece, and it's one that just about everyone has heard but doesn't know the name of.
It's the sequel ;) The Genesis version is based on Dark Castle from 1984 ( 2 years before "Beyond Dark Castle" ) with the same structure BUT without the mouse controller to shoot rats
strange how Apple recycled some sounds and others sound like they are from a soundboard ya know? 0:52 Donkey Kong 2:33 sounds like the TH-cam video called "Broken Goat" 2:44 Curly of the 3 Stooges 3:03 Seth MacFarlane as Chris 3:05 Seth as Quagmire strange eh?
Someone needs to donate this game and Dark Castle to AVGN, they better be the Commodore Amiga and the Commodore 64 ports. Why? Because those are the currently only Commodore computer systems I know James owns, AND because he shouldn't have to get an OLD Macintosh. His Amiga computer is an A600, see his Console list under Cinemassacre! Don't forget: Make sure he gets RETURN to Dark Castle as well! I guarantee he won't be dissapointed
I LOVE this game! I wish I had a Classic Macintosh again just to play it! I used to play it all the time on my Macintosh 512K. One of the best adventure games ever released on any platform, IMO! gruzless, did you work for Silicon Beach Software?
I played this game so much as a kid, but I don't think I passed a single level. I sure loved the sound effects though!
Amazing how crisp and clear the sound was for a computer game from 1987
OMG, the amount of nostalgia!

I love the sound that little thing with the hands coming out of his head makes.
A classic favorite. Spent much of my childhood with this and Uninvited.

This is beautiful. I miss the 80s. I miss life.
Omg, i'm about to cry out of pure nostalgia...
I played this game in a Macintosh SE for years! I found it very hard back then but finally beat it. This game rocks!!
This game's noises used to make mom so mad.
best sounds ever. especially when you stepped on the mice.. "eee" "ee" "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..."
I remember the helicopter stages! Those were awesome.
I remember this game.....so many hours spent lol
This is one the first games I played on a computer.
Spent hours in a library to play and go to internet when it first came.
This was my favourite game in the late 80's. I had a Mac Plus, I played it all the way through to the end as well.
Absolutely, the best platformer ever made
So cool! Was really hoping to see some of the swamp level though
The West Tower Wall on advanced level was probably the most challenging.
I played this alot when I was 9 or 10 years! Thank you for posting this! :)
Classic game! Thanks for posting! How messed up that you don’t rescue the people locked up in the dungeon and just walk by.
The memories...
なっつかし〜!!6-7歳の頃やってて鬼ゲーすぎてトラウマになったけど音もアクションも、全部やみつきになる作りで大好きだった〜
for 1986, this is bloody impressive, iirc digital sound wasn't widely popular until the early 90's

For the macintosh, the graphics are very good!
First game I ever played.
I just played the original, but very nice to see this
I remember playing this on my mom's old macintosh. It's so weird to see someone play it competently.
@bulls0ft i know this takes me back!!! havn't seen or played this game since i was a kid
childhood memories on my old mac with 20MB hard disk drive that sounded like a airplane when powered up :-P
uhh... uhh... uhh... YEAH! uhh..
2:45 "It's as if the game is literally making fun of you!"
1986. The same year Castlevania was released for the Famicom.
Amazing, i too havnt seen this for decades, haha...
Its like the mac version of Pitfall :P
I played this game as a little kid. It was very hard to master the game.
@pitbull6098 I say "Yeah" every time I pick up something off the ground.

Yeah!
My parents bought my a NES just to STOP screwing the house's Mac :-D
I was not aware of a dark castle 2!?
The graphics are actually pretty good -- the sound effects though are just some guy making mouth noises!
71 lives left in the end?
Madest sounding game in gaming history!
lol did the make ALL of the sound effects himself?!
Can I download this game?
