Maddie Paige Hey Maddie, how old are you or what grade are you in? Just starting or been playing awhile now? I absolutely loved it. I had a 2nd chance to play. In 2005 I think, I was in a brass quintet, it was just for fun and fun is what it was. I hadn't played for quite a few years and it felt so good to do it again. Unfortunately we disbanded in 2010. Keep playing!! One "girl" to another!! Playing the trumpet was one of my favorite things to do.
Maddie Paige Good job Maddie, keep playing. It's a fun instrument once you get into it. I was frustrated for the first few months I played but by then I was starting to catch up to the guys who'd been playing for a year already. Makes me wish I could go back in time. Have fun with it!!!

I know right? This man strikes me so hard with his range and technique, I can only wish to play that good. For example on 1:34 he plays a whole B-flat scale. Incredible
mikejohnsb well in my opinion, better than most but not all. For example, Whitney Houston singing the national anthem is probably the best national anthem I've ever heard. Renee Fleming also sang it one year and sounded great.
saruni :3 you would be absolutely correct. This man is an outright virtuoso who represented the Stars and Stripes in a most dynamic fashion. Pure brilliance!
My first jazz album was the soundtrack to his "For love or country". The only thing that sucks about getting inspiration from high note players is that you can get stuck there and not work on the technique of the horn. It happened to me, for too many years I was only concerned with my sound.
This musician, Arturo Sandoval is a giant in the professional world. It is very poignant to note that (many of) the viewers of this video and the thousands of Orange Bowl fans present on that day had no idea of the breadth of talent they were treated to. Every week people watch TV programs such as The Voice, and America's Got Talent and become hypnotized by the malaise. Advice to television producers: You need only roam around the practice halls of Berklee, Curtis, Juilliard, Eastman and other music citadels. Those places are blistering with serious talent. As a country, our appreciation of people who spend five and six hours a day for years honing their gifts is sorely neglected.
I agree it sounds good, but you can't deny the Soviet National Anthem is very inspiring. I'm not saying I agree with communism or what the song says, but it sounds so good.
All of the non-musicians here have no idea what extreme talent they just witnessed. There are plenty of professional trumpet players that only dream of hitting notes that high with such good tone. Wow.
Everyone’s talking about the difficulty of just hitting those notes but doing it as a long note, in tune, with vibrato, loud enough for a stadium to hear is unbeatable
Trumpet players: if you’re feeling discouraged because you’re struggling with high notes, Arturo himself said on video he could not play upper register notes for years. It took him a LONG time. Don’t give up and keep practicing 🙏🏼
There's something so unique about Arturo - in the lower register, it almost sounds like he's going to lose the pitch sometimes. It isn't the unwavering intonation that he shows when he gets up really high. When he gets up to the upper register, it's like the most crystal clear sound you've ever heard. Very interesting and fantastic musician.
This is the first time I've gotten chills from a trumpet performance, mainly at 1:35. Absolutely amazing how flawless those high notes were, and all those vibratos. Bravo.
Sheer beauty! Tasteful, a little flash, but not too much, and how deeply moving to see Turi playing this in his adopted country, which he loves so much! Bravo, Maestro!
God I love listening to this when he goes up into that higher register. I only dreamed about doing that. I spent my high school years listening to Maynard Ferguson, Bill Chase, and Herb Alpert, all incredible musicians with a trumpet. I got to see Ferguson twice in high school. That was a long time ago.
@@billpoindexter2113 I know the ones I like, I'll put it that way. Herb Alpert was the first one I heard. I was only 9 or 10 at the time. In 6th grade, (a year behind my classmates), I began with lessons, and I'm a competitor, if it's something I really want, I go after it, so in 7th grade, I didn't like playing 3rd trumpet for anything. I worked my way to 2nd trumpet that year though. When we got rid of the upper classmen whose talents were quite good, I was finally playing 1st trumpet, and I swear that in 8th/9th and 11th/12th, our instructors loved picking on me and the guy who we always tried to outplay the other, so 1st and 2nd chair was like a swinging door all the time. They never picked on the other instruments, but I feel like it made me better, and since I was a girl, I let them know that a girl could hang with the boys. The trumpet players were always the first ones to the band room in high school and right away we went into the office, put on either Chase or Ferguson and we cranked those speakers until more people were filing in. I'm 62 now, and what I wouldn't give to still be able to play. Once in awhile I get it out, you gotta make sure those valves don't need oiling and that it doesn't need to be cleaned good. I love how shiny a silver Bach Strad looks. As for Chase, give me "Open up wide", "Livin in heat", "Hello groceries", "Handbags and gladrags" (my absolute favorite)!! and of course "Get it on". I had a hard time finding that album, but it's a miracle I didn't go deaf just from listening to them all as late at night as I could. I have all of that music on an ipod, and if I'm in my car by myself, I love to crank it up just like the old days.
@@survivrs You know there are Chase live and tributes collections, I assume. Both are incredible. And, there are several clips of Chase here in TH-cam. Destiny Aping Is fun I’ve played trumpet for 8 years I know exactly what I’m talking about and yes he took a deep breath but you try playing up in the stratosphere for more than a few measures it doesn’t matter how big your breath is that takes tons of air
For those who don't know....using the valves on a trumpet directs air through different tubes, therefore lengthening and shortening the horn, and helping a player hit the different notes. When you are up that high, the valves no longer matter. That is 100% the player, in this case controlling a squeal at a world class level. It is hard enough to control pitch when you're squealing, but the tone he managed while doing it was truly impressive. When he put the horn down you could see how exhausted he was. And the breath and preparation he took just before going for "Land of the free" had that "its go time" look to it.
One of the best musicians and trumpet players. I love how he kept it classy and low key until the end. Then he let's it rip. I can say I'm not a big fan of the vocalists performing the anthem that add all of their unnecessary additions to our historic anthem. It doesn't need to be altered! Merica!
I can not explain my feeling when listening to the national anthem in the interpretation of our venerated Arturo Sandoval. Tears appear in my eyes an the heart feels like squeezed out when it reaches those impeccable sharp notes. Thanks Arturo, eres grande entre los grandes.
The greatest Trumpet Player to ever attempt the anthem. Let me make this crystal clear: he is the greatest to ever pick up the horn and all other should just appreciate his greatness. The king!!!

Still can't believe I met this guy and he gave out class a lesson on trumpets
You should check out his TH-cam channel, he has q&a sessions on there and helpful discussions with other musicians like Wayne B.
People who don’t play the trumpet have no idea how impressive that really was
For those who don't know....using the valves on a trumpet directs air through different tubes, therefore lengthening and shortening the horn, and helping a player hit the different notes.
My personal favorite and in my opinion the best trumpeter of all time.
well, I think every trumpet player is just crying right now
OH MY GOODNESS!!! 😁👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I've always loved his work.
One of the best musicians and trumpet players. I love how he kept it classy and low key until the end. Then he let's it rip. I can say I'm not a big fan of the vocalists performing the anthem that add all of their unnecessary additions to our historic anthem. It doesn't need to be altered! Merica!
Man Sandoval's sound is HUGE across the whole horn! Quickly becoming one of my favorites :]
I can not explain my feeling when listening to the national anthem in the interpretation of our venerated Arturo Sandoval. Tears appear in my eyes an the heart feels like squeezed out when it reaches those impeccable sharp notes. Thanks Arturo, eres grande entre los grandes.
Pra quem é músico sabe o quão difícil é chegar a essa oitava acima, mestre no trompete! Parabéns!
I almost died at 1:35 .It was soooo freaking awesome
Arturo played this so well that several other nations adopted his version as their anthems
That was absolutely sublime
I'm by no means a fan of the national anthem, but that performance was incredibly powerful
I teared up
God Bless America, and That man. WOW, Fantastic.
I can do the first part an Octave high, but the second part of the ending is just freaking ridiculous! MURICA
Maestro de los maestros orgullosa de ser cubana
Yo también
that was the most amazing part of the game 😂 wow
The greatest Trumpet Player to ever attempt the anthem. Let me make this crystal clear: he is the greatest to ever pick up the horn and all other should just appreciate his greatness. The king!!!
I have a lump in my throat, masterful piece and no words to describe what you did señor Artuto Sandobal.
