@LeeClaxton There wasn't one - it diverted to Gatwick, probably because they notified air traffic control that they were at minimum fuel shortly after the second go around
I was on the Cathay A350 at 4:09pm and I can tell you after 1 million miles of flying I have never stacked it so much That immediate left turn followed by the hard winds felt like we were just gonna drop out of the sky! Fantastic work to the captain who kept us safe and landed us in Gatwick
Did you leave from LGW or you have to wait for the flight to go to LHR? Currently waiting at LHR for that flight so we can depart. I’ve just learned more from this video than I have from the staff here.
We diverted to Gatwick (turns out we had a fuel emergency) There was talk of refueling and going to Heathrow but the crew decided to let us off there instead Given LGW doesn’t have any Cathay staff, you may be waiting a while
Thanks for your info. It finally arrived at 10.39. Nobody has officially told us ANYTHING all night. Just the rumour mill working, but very accurately. The flight is unofficially cancelled (6 hours delayed) and we are now officially (as told by LHR staff rather than CX) waiting to be assigned hotel rooms.
@@laurenamber3709 there was absolutely no screaming or panic of any kind. Most people kept watching their movies The pilot said nothing after the second go around (focused on getting to Gatwick safely) and when we landed most people had no idea we even did go around Fuel emergency was that we had a 14 hour flight, a long hold at Heathrow and 2 missed approaches so we needed to get down asap
I must say the majority of the BA pilots appear to be highly adept with the lay of the land and conditions at LHR. Terrible conditions. Just ask the horses/ponies!
Flew in from Gibraltar on BA about 4pm today. I've never known such a turbulent approach, which lasted for 10-15 minutes. We were thrown all over the place, right to the moment we landed when we were chucked sideways! Emergency vehicles were lined up ready on the ground! And the wind was really buffeting the plane while parked before taxiing to the terminal. Needless to say, the pilot got a round of applause! We were so relieved. Can't imagine what those passengers on the plane in Japan must have gone through. What a dreadful experience.
@janeaustin9120 I would too! Probably went weak in the knees...well, try to remember other flights you've had, I guess...but even for myself, in reading your account, I'll be double checking every weather everwhere..so thank you for recounting such a terrifying time..and look at those 2 feet on the ground now!💕💕💕❤️
Had a windy wobbly landing 11pm on a A321 Neo with BA at Gatwick on Sat 30th .. the last ten mins was not nice, I had visions of a go around but down first time albeit fast and brakes slammed on! I'm always anxious now when I fly, its the turbulence that gets me. I'm better on chunky A380's!! Glad you are safe yours sounds scary afraid I'd have been well stressed. @@emmadeal1105 We flew from Gibraltar. The flight after ours from set off late due to various technical issues. It had to make an emergency landing in France, apparently due to fumes in the cockpit. I believe the landing was extremely rough! Glad we weren't on that one!
I was on an Air Canada 777-333 (C-FIVS) into LHR from YVR just after midday and it was getting a bit bouncy then, so much so that the little kid in the seat behind me puked all over his seat just as we touched down and the aircraft straightened up suddenly.

That reverser story is only on certain jets. Things like A380 are perfectly aerodynamic that just wing shape change can be enough to drastically slow. A380 didn't need reverses - Emirates demanded it. But MANY reverses out there are reversing and not just an invisible windbreak.
