My 22 years old son got a job offer from Blackstone immediately after graduation from University of Virginia. There are so many people that are more qualified for the position than he is but he is an athlete at UVA and the SVP at Blackstone knew him so he was hired. It is not how much you know but WHO you know matters a whole lot more.
100% agree that connections matter and that there’s more to landing the offer than just being the most qualified. Congrats to your son on the offer with Blackstone!
@@matthuang21 In your video, you should have emphasized it much more..... Connection is everything..... Where I work, there are 15 jobs opening at Bloomberg with over 8000 applications. That's why connections matter A LOT....

I've been a viewer of yours for a long time Matt, thanks for the great video! I'm an asian-american student at a non-target university and I've shifted my focus from investment banking to consulting so your content resonates with me. I'll be joining Visa as a Consulting intern for my sophomore summer and your content, both personally and professionally, has been a huge help. Looking forward to what's in store for your TH-cam account!

Hey matt, first of all thank you so much for making these incredible videos. I just got my acceptance in ESSEC business school for my ugrad ( in Paris I’m not sure if you know about eu bschools) and In fact it is a target school (30 percent of all hires of mbb is from ESSEC in France). My question to you is apart from getting a summer internship, leading society and getting a high gpa, what other skills should I work on and could you also make a video of you breaking down your cv? Thank you so much for being a role model to so many! I wish to see more from you!
Hey Nika! Apart from the things you mentioned, just focus on networking with consultants so that when it comes time to apply you can ask for referrals
Hey Matt, what advice do you have on how to prepare for a job in consulting? I have 6 months until I start at a T2, and don't really feel like consulting material. I had very atypical and nonlinear path to consulting - non-target school, non-MBA masters, unrelated industry jobs, and much worse academically than the usual candidates. Thanks
Hey Rajen! First of all, congrats on getting the offer - you're going to learn a ton. Remember that you worked hard to get to the same place as your peers - just because you didn't have a "typical" path to consulting doesn't make you any less qualified. If anything it's a testament to your work ethic! Practically speaking, you can prepare by brushing up on ppt and excel skills (learning shortcuts), and also networking with people at your company to start building your network and understanding what kinds of projects might be interesting. Outside that, just enjoy life and go climbing alot before you start - hope this helps!
do you travel much at bcg?
Depends on the project type and office location. I don’t travel much because I work with a lot of NYC based clients and also do a lot of due diligence work for PE firms that don’t care if you travel. If you are based out of a smaller city or working with a company, you will likely travel a lot more. Anecdotally speaking I’d say consultants post covid travel less than they used to.
how old are you saar?
I’m in my mid 20s
