    This was filmed before the pandemic. We know this kind of "close proximity" concept is basically the opposite of what would be safe during current times 😉

    I wish you 'd have placed Dr. GIL-DA-Costa (Neuroscientist) with a scholar of religion such as Reza Aslan. That could 've been been much more enlightening since Dr. Da Costa's arguments aim to question the concept of "God", rather than solely the narrative of Christianity and literalism in its interpretation. Anyways, compliments for engaging in a dialogue! :)

    4:41 Rabbi's question at 4:41 was mind blowing, and shows that part of belief is hoping you have the right one. And living in a way that is honest so you feel like you're safe wether you were right or wrong about your religious belief. This implies that even at his high level as a religious leader, there is a sliver of doubt in its truth. Science however does not have doubts. Not to make a comparison between the two, but it seems like with science, you ask questions. With religion, you follow without question. Science makes a little more sense to me but you could never know. They always say the truth is scarier than fiction. Who knows what the truth really is. If there even is such a thing as truth?

    As far as "a lot of luck", I thought the neuroscientist may have been thinking about the topic in terms of the sparsity of life within this universe, and therefore, yes, with so many star systems and planets, it stands to reason that some will have the "luck" of life within it. But I think a better question (and I'm coming at this as a Bahá'í whose Founders taught that creation has had no beginning, a view increasingly embraced by physicists), is that there seems to be a lot of "luck" (or pseudo-science) involved with the notion that a non-intelligent nature can continually will itself into being--since otherwise, why doesn't the universe just evaporate into nothingness? What sustains it and wills it into being at every moment? How can it just be here despite having no volition of its own?
    There's a "lot of luck"--or an awful waste of space--for a whole creation to just be without any Will or Intent behind it (though without suggesting an anthropomorphic idea of Intent that we can understand). While the question then becomes, "what is the Will or Intent behind what we call God?", but that is unfathomable because we are talking about an All-Powerful, Unknowable Being. But we at least have a sense that it must be an Intelligent, non-limited Essence--not like comparatively dumb nature which calls into question how it could exist despite its obvious limitations.
    Very nice to have these kind of friendly conversations, and featuring people who are not caricatures of one side or the other. Thank you.

    It's interesting that those who look more to evolution without intelligent design by a creator don't question all the species which have both male & female & require two different beings to combine (egg/seed) to reproduce. To me that points to a creator with intelligent design. To me being strictly evolutionary would make us all much simpler, each being able to reproduce on it's own. I can't help but also question the complexity of things such as the eye, allowing us to see or the ear allowing us to hear. All of these things in our bodies are so complex. To me it takes an extreme amount of "blind faith" that everything just evolved by chance, more faith than it takes for me to accept that an intelligent creator was involved.

    • @EuniceAdinaTumbleton
      @EuniceAdinaTumbleton 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait; so are you agreeing with the lady or the religious scholar? Because 0:58 she is supporting what religious people say; because a few seconds prior she states the coherent reasons and evidence for thinking there was a Big Bang.

    • @thepinoz
      @thepinoz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EuniceAdinaTumbleton I disagree with the lady. There are reasons and data to support the bang theory. What happens "before" that ("god spoke and there was a bang etc.") is pure speculation. Could it be god's voice? yes. Could it be a pink unicorn sneezing the universe into existence? also yes.
      I'm not agreeing with Reza Aslan either honestly but that's a different topic. I would argue his bit was a strawman, but these videos are (of course) heavily edited so I don't wanna criticize too much..

    The field of "Modern Science" was created by Bible believing Christians. It is the Biblical foundation of God being a rational, logical Creator and therefor He created a universe we can understand, is what Modern Science was founded on. Atheistic materialism is a worldview but NOT scientific nor what the study of science was built on.
