    Great recording. Ray had a great day. The 80s were his best years. He was the best of all, by far. Rest In Peace. I’m sure he keeps singing in Heaven.

    Ray "the bridge" Charles
    the only artist to date that bridged - blues, jazz ,big band, gospel, soul, pop
    into one meal for the soul

      also country western . Ray said he loved that hillbilly music . he recorded an album containing just C&W songs including I Can't Stop Loving You written by
      Don Gibson ; Take These Chains from My Heart
      Hy Heath / Fred Rose ; Your Cheatin' Heart
      Hank Williams ; etcetera . Charles is one of a handful of non traditional country western music artists in the C&W Hall of Fame

    3842 I can't stop loving You was composed and written by country western singer, musician, performer and recording artist Don Gibson in 1957 . Ray loved country western songs and he recorded and performed many in his own awesome, inimitable, soul & jazz style . I read from several sources Ray Charles was one of just a few non country western singers & musicians invited and performed at The Grand Old Opry in Nashville TN , the world's capital for country western music

      Přeji něco podobného i tobě!

    20:55 this song is very nice and flowing . some interesting chord changes . somewhat reminiscent of international jazz from a slightly earlier era , 1950s, 1960s . this is some fine carefree driving down the freeway music .

    Jo jo, studia v Praze byla překrásná, nejen "akademickým" životem ale i takovýmito kulturními poklady. A nebyly rozhodně ojedinělé.
    Uměl jsem si vybrat správný čas kdy prožít své mládí, a bylo to víc než nádherné.
    Dnes nemám komu co závidět, protože dnes není o co stát, a tedy ani co závidět!
    (Zejména ne dobu dnešní, kterou opět ovládl válečný fašismus i s tím jeho všudepřítomným ukronacismem atd.)

    Interesting piano, it's a Petrof, not a brand I know. I like the way it sounds.
    I've noticed that Brother Ray played a lot of different pianos over the years, which is weird coz Steinway would have signed him in a nanosecond and delivered pianos for him to play anywhere in the world. Or he could probably have gotten a Boosie deal. I even saw him playing a Yamaha in Copenhagen 1973. That's sad.

    • @moe9196
      @moe9196 ปีที่แล้ว

      This performance was played in Prague then in Czechoslovakia which was still under domination by the Soviet Union in 1981 . I've never heard of Petrof pianos either . Petrof sounds very Russian. My guess it was some Russian or Ukrainian piano in the USSR and its sphere at that time and earlier

    34:18 you probably wouldn't believe it but Ray Charles loved recording and performing country western music . this one here is by Hank Williams "Take These Chains From My Heart" . A song Ray made more famous than anyone was country music singer/song writer Bob Gibson's song I can't stop loving You . I remember Ray once saying " i love that hillbilly music " . Ray Charles was one of the rare non country western singers invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee . Ray loved the lyrics of country western music . He recorded several albums made up of just country western songs and sang and played them in his own inimitable style . Georgia On My Mind is one of the great songs ever written and performed and Ray made it so with his version . But it is not of the Country Western genre . One of America's greatest singers, songwriters and composers Hoagy Carmichael composed the music and lyrics written by Stuart Gorrell in 1930 and first time recorded in 1930 . Charles probably made the song the most famous in the early 1960s .

    Interesting choice using an SM57 for his voice. Proves that a great voice sounds good on any mic but it’s so directional that we lose a lot on his voice unless he’s right in front of it.

    fledgling, just starting out, still photographer , i rigged up a fake press pass , got to photograph ray front of stage and anywhere around but just beyond the stage at an outdoor concert in the early 1980s , in the usa ( im so happy that pro photog told me just keep your head low like you are photographing a boxing match with you camera and lenses sitting on the floor. if you stand up you gonna get kicked out for blocking view of audience ) . i snuck my bro and sis backstage , told his management they were writers . met the Raelettes . by time ray came out he was being ushered to his limo . my sister stood next to him and got a photo but way too out of focus, fuzzy . odd how when you photographing an amazing man performing on stage, its no problem, all photos came out clear . but after i shook Ray's hand and asked him to take a pic with my sister it was like i felt a nervous wreck , and that photo was too fuzzy to make anything out, lol .

    I know music , loved it all my life, every kind . but no education, playing , etc . i wish i could express the following in music terms . the number that starts around 20:29 seems so modern cool - sophisticated but takes off here and there like a rocket ( something like the romantic era of classic music when you have those sudden changes volume - dynamics i think they call it ) . anyone explain this ? is this song going back n forth major to minor key ? whatever ? the changes of back n forth loud and soft, something about the chording and melodic structure ? please, any and all replies !

    For some reason this period of Charles from about 77 to 83 or so was my favorite. A lot of it is the material and arrangements. The TRUE TO LIFE album for example. Larry Muhoberac and Sid Feller writing.

  • @nemo-nb3gh

    Ray looks extra cool , calm and almost unconcerned in this performance . one scenario comes to mind . Ray sits down to rehearse on this Petrof Piano , and says to himself damn this ain't no Steinway . what the hell , i'll have a few drinks and just ride this wave and see what happens . He pulls it off quite well . the "commie" , lol, piano does sounds a bit clunky but his voice is exceptionally nuanced and versatile in this concert .

    • @danielm4114
      @danielm4114 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent point about the nuance and versatility concerning his voice- I think he hit a remarkable sweet spot in his vocals that he didn't have before once his career spanned into the 80s, before it started to deteriorate for good in the mid 90s. Here in 81, he's in as fine form vocally as I've ever heard him. And remarkably, this may be par. Ray made sure every performance was a standout.

    • @nemo-nb3gh
      @nemo-nb3gh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielm4114 funny , now that i've watched and listened to this several times i take back what i say about Ray being unconcerned , lol . He's doing a lot of talking and no doubt reprimanding some his band members . I've heard from other people who have seen ray live and two guys who actually subbed as musicians for his regular band members who were sick and couldn't play the live show . ray could be a tough task master and deservedly so, he had the right to be ! ray truly was a brilliant genius .

    • @danielm4114
      @danielm4114 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nemo-nb3gh Ray had a habit especially as he got older of sometimes nastily reprimanding his band members- being an obsessive perfectionist with extremely sensitive hearing who kept very precise time, he would not put up with musicians who could not at least try and meet his standard. He went through a lot of drummers throughout the years for this reason- they simply couldn't hang.
