One point I forgot to note, though hopefully this was assumed anyways: This technique doesn't work for suits with unorthodox movement such as ground types etc.
UnlimitedBrettWorks This is somewhat unrelated but I feel like you are the right person to ask considering how knowledgeable you are. I'm a vet of the vs series and I love the Zeta. I noticed that it's now a 500 tier ms and I was wondering about your thoughts on it. P.S Im waiting for the NA release so I haven't gotten a chance to use it myself
Zeta is a really different suit now, yeah. As a 500 suit it's now considered a front suit, and your main role is to mount offense and push your team forward. Zeta's strength is being able to maintain a lot of suppression fire with a reloadable BR (very rare for 500) and Sub. Having high mega on 2 count is also really nice since it's one of his best tools now. 8B also is really fast, and in Blaze burst, any melee hit leads to ridiculous dmg due to easy confirms into Super. Unfortunately outside of what I mentioned he doesn't have many other strengths, and as a result tends to be forced to play a bit passively. In the current meta Gundam Versus is pretty aggressive and most strong 500 suits either have great close range game or ways of dishing out damage outside of basic BRs. All unarguably strong suits in GVS have an ace up their sleeve and Zeta really lacks one. From watching this video you should notice that boost step dive is really an impervious defense against basic BR play, so I think Zeta has some issues dealing with this kind of playstyle. You can definitely still do well with Zeta but I think many players will echo that his strengths ultimately start plateauing as the skill level increases.
This is my 1st Gundam game and I've been waiting to play a game like this for years!! Already pre-ordered, and I've been "studying" until it's release with stuff like this. Thanks for the vid.
I gotten the game and used the franchise's best lead machines from every gundam series and faced off with the zeon's tough customers to gained trophies and a experienced rank and above, I've didn't followed the games instructions much during combat but i improvise against the odds, i've been a fan of gundam's franchise since toonami in 1999 with gundam wing and the original mobile suit gundam in 2001 alongside many others in the war in the pocket on 0080, 0083 the stardust memory and g gundam, seed, unicorn and the iron blood orphans as a longtime gundam fan from the toonami era i like thank you for bringing this up it would make perfect strategic plan to crush zeon's tough machines and master gundam into the ultimate level
Informative and easy to follow. As a new player excited to get my hands on the game in the next 2 weeks, I'll be doing my best to work on my Boost Step Dive.
Jan Paul Schnabel that's actually a pretty decent comparison to draw! Doing it 100% of the time is bad just like WD but obviously an option everyone needs to incorporate and be aware of.
not sure but aeug vs titans did, it never got a us release tho. Played it on my emulator loved it as well in the campaign mode you can unlock the rx78 on aeug side. If I was to remake fed vs zeon I would add the ez8, gm sniper 2, gm cannon , alex and all of the zeon suits from war in the pocket, along with some msv suits. I would also add a co-op campaign since I loved the campaign in the first 3 vs games, idk being a no name grunt on the sidelines was appealing to me.
The Doucheanator I never even got to play Mobile Suit Gundam Federation vs. Zeon but I've heard stories about how great that game was. I wouldn't mind playing that versus game.
This is extremely helpful for avoiding stray shots. I'd also like to say that this is even more important for units with special movement, like the GNX or Commander's SUMO. I'm not amazing or anything, just throwing that out there. lol
There is a lot to pick up when you're first starting out, but everything you learn quickly becomes second nature so just keep at it! Think of it like learning to drive a car etc!
Thanks for the info!! Late to the game but it's still useful. I have a small advantage as this is the first gundam game I've played, so I don't have that habit of doing the boost hop, even though I've learned how to do it. its not a habit as it feels awkward and clunky to do. I only hop if I have terrain in front of me and want to shoot over it (given enough boost gauge left). It's definitely situational and Boost Dash Dive feels a lot more aggressive in every action.
I feel like REALLY, the best advice you could give is "DO NOT MELEE! EVER!" 90% of the time I just get blasted in the back, and I can't tell you how often I snipe sword-happy players off my allies with my strongest attack as well. Unless I 100% trust my ally to keep the other guy busy, I feel like CQC is just a bad idea in general and I never see anyone say "Avoid this!"
I should have prefaced this by saying that I am intimidated by Melee and hate the elitism surrounding that game. I'm glad to have hands on with Gundam VS but sadly I'm denied a large portion of the game's enjoyment because I'm not good enough and never will be. This is an EVO game and normally I don't buy EVO games. But because it's Gundam I felt compelled to.
I felt the same way during Extreme Versus era but I am glad I stayed with it as now I am able to enjoy playing the game now that I understand how it should be played. The game really is a lot if fun if you invest some time in understanding the mechanics and general gameplay.
Necro, but at least you're not playing it in the arcades like I did. 60 bucks would be the cost if you don't git gud quickly since the game rewards winners by letting you play on while it punishes losers by having them pay up to play again. Usual arcade stuff tbh
So even with the Dive tactic boost hopping still has a place its just finding a place in the fight where its a better option than the Boost Step Dive. Should probably also tell people to mix up there landing patterns too as landing is where you take most of your damage. Still though its a nice informative video with examples of what your talking about. Kind of excited to jump back into the game when its out so I can start practicing these.
Thanks for your feedback! Mixing landing patterns is definitely good general advice, but as this video has mentioned, Boost Step Dive is actually just unpunishable a lot of the time. If the opponent has a move that can punish it, then you definitely have to be a bit less predictable, but it's certainly much less of an issue than any other movement option due to the nature of how low risk it is to basic pokes.
Well this is an interesting new technique. I'm not sure what I classify myself as in this series (maybe a little above beginner... Novice???) so I'll have to give this a shot next time I play. My movement and (especially) positioning have always been lacking lol. Thanks for the awesome tips and tricks as always :D
On controller, it's default bound to flick right analog stick. If on joystick, it defaults to R2. Check your button config regardless and you should see where it is, and can rebind it if you want.
Often when I attempt this maneuver my character sends out his striker unit. I have the striker button set to a different button than boost dive. Can you help me out?
Andre Martinez you might be holding down the boost button or something weird. Make sure after your side step no buttons are being held when you press Boost Dive. Let me know if that fixes it
Which button do you have it set to? Do you have the turbo button on or something? That's really weird, that shouldn't be happening :(. I'll try messing with it in training mode but I've never encountered that problem. If you just jump in the air then boost dive do you get Striker?
I think everyone is different. It defaults to flicking the right stick, which I think many players stick to, but a shoulder button is probably okay too, like L1 or L2. I would say do what's comfortable for you - online play is the main focus of this game so you'll be able to just play with whatever configuration you like best. Try the default pad layout first and if boost dive feels uncomfortable try moving it to a shoulder button.
That's odd, I never played a Versus game and jumped to online on the first hour or so of playing the trial. Just randomly pressed the dash. Won 3/3 times I played lol
Don't worry too much about this! It's good to keep in in mind as you're learning, but one step at a time - make sure you learn this stuff once you're confident with everything else
"Repeat the same button combo over and over and over again so you don't get sucker fucked by a random shot to the back." Wow, that is what we in the west call a "Shit Design Choice"
If you don't step, you don't cut guidance, meaning a stray shots fired during your boost dash can catch the landing. Boost dashing and landing itself isn't that bad of a maneuver (especially with lots of boost) but the step dive adds a lot of security to the landing.
I love Gundam, and I think gundam versus is a cool game, but I honestly feel like the game could use some work. The need for hyper advance techniques seems really messed up, and near impossible for new players. I'm not super into fighting games, but I feel most other fighting games don't require hyper advanced skills in order to be decent.
I agree that there's a lot of information to take in, which can be tough. But I definitely disagree about it being harder than fighting games. Fighting games require hours and hours of precise practice just to do basic things. In Gundam once you understand basic movement, you don't really have to go back to training mode ever. The main difficulty is in that Gundam is its own genre, so you have to learn everything from the ground up. There aren't many parallels, as opposed to picking up a new shooter, fighting game, racing game, etc. I think players who have put in a fair amount of time in both Gundam and Fighting Games can agree about that. For example the technique in this video is actually not hyper advanced - anyone can do it with a bit of practice.
UnlimitedBrettWorks what I meant when i said "hyper advanced skills", I meant that is was hyper advanced for you hands. "Double press x, double tap direction, press o" is alot to do every time you want to move. And personally I hate not having dodge on a dedicated button. I'm super new, so it's mostly just a matter of practice.
Oh, I didn't realize you were asking me lol. Playing offline multiplayer is possible but really complicated to set up - it's confusing and only used for tournaments usually. What I'd recommend is teaming with your brother together in online lobbies - there's no offline co-op mode. You guys can also try 1v1'ing each other by making a 1v1 room.
One way to get a better life. DONT PLAY THIS GAME. I'd rather u go back to playing Full boost or if your country has it, Maxiboost on. And wheres th whew fun in playing a Zeta that cant shoot 3 times beam rifle
One point I forgot to note, though hopefully this was assumed anyways: This technique doesn't work for suits with unorthodox movement such as ground types etc.

UnlimitedBrettWorks Thanks for the info man. I appreciate it
I'm guessing Tallgeese is also the case?
You can use boost step dive with Tallgeese, it's just much harder due to the extra precision needed to do boost dashes accurately.
As a player who has never played gundam versus I feel this is simple and easy to understand.
kevin chang ikr? I been with this series for long time now
How ever it hard to master
Love hearing that build fighters ost
I know me too😁
This is my 1st Gundam game and I've been waiting to play a game like this for years!! Already pre-ordered, and I've been "studying" until it's release with stuff like this. Thanks for the vid.
JohnnyZorro Same I've started watching some of the shows first. Just finished SEED
Same here just wish they had G gundam
Shawn fletcher skinner yeah G Gundam would be the best Fighting Gundam.
Thanks for the informative video! Can't wait for more.
Informative and easy to follow. As a new player excited to get my hands on the game in the next 2 weeks, I'll be doing my best to work on my Boost Step Dive.
2:32 i see dat disrespect dance x1
I hate boost diving but thanks for the video! (now I know their weaknesses!)
This was a very helpful video, thanks! I have a much better idea of how I should be moving now.
You sir have my full support. More tutorials please.
I played a lot of Gundam Breaker 3, but this is my first Versus title, really like a breakdown of how/why the tech works.
wave dashing?
Jan Paul Schnabel that's actually a pretty decent comparison to draw! Doing it 100% of the time is bad just like WD but obviously an option everyone needs to incorporate and be aware of.
Jan Paul Schnabel bruh I though I was the only one who was thinking it
I wish bandai would redo federation vs zeon and put in a online mode for it for the nostalgia as it was many peoples first gundam game.
The Doucheanator
If I recall correctly, the JP edition did have an online mode. Still it is a classic to me
not sure but aeug vs titans did, it never got a us release tho.
The Doucheanator true but we got gundam vs zeta gundam which balanced the suits and changed the story mode
I'm not amazing or anything, just throwing that out there. lol
This'll be so good with the Qubeley lol.
I will have to try this when it comes out in NA
Thanks for the tip
After learning step movement breaks tracking and boost doesn't, I get why this is such a good movement tactic.
This is great. I can't wait to really dig into this game. I still feel like I have to learn so much more I order to keep up.
There is a lot to pick up when you're first starting out, but everything you learn quickly becomes second nature so just keep at it! Think of it like learning to drive a car etc!
Good stuff Brett, can't wait for your other guides / tutorials!~
Forgot to mention you in the credits, but thanks for your feedback!
Let's get it!! Brett my notification is turned on. I'm looking forward to some boss content.
New to Gundam but new to competitive games. Made a lot of sense
Thanks for this, been playing the jp version and would get hit often even when defensive boost hopping. I'll have to start practicing this.
Thanks for the tips!
Because of this video I actually started winning more thnx mate
I feel like REALLY, the best advice you could give is "DO NOT MELEE! EVER!"

This info is huge, thank you!
i fucking love this game
Sooo...this is basically Melee, but Gundam. Well fuck. There goes 60 bucks.
You think any of us started out as pros? Just practice and keep trying and eventually you will be better than most of us
its just about timing it right
keep trying and you will eventually be a pro
I felt the same way during Extreme Versus era but I am glad I stayed with it as now I am able to enjoy playing the game now that I understand how it should be played. The game really is a lot if fun if you invest some time in understanding the mechanics and general gameplay.

When is nightgale available
Well this is an interesting new technique. I'm not sure what I classify myself as in this series (maybe a little above beginner... Novice???) so I'll have to give this a shot next time I play. My movement and (especially) positioning have always been lacking lol. Thanks for the awesome tips and tricks as always :D
you mentioned boost step dive is difficult with the default pad layout, do you have any pad button layout recommendations?
How does one Boost Dive? What are the buttons to be pressed?
On controller, it's default bound to flick right analog stick. If on joystick, it defaults to R2. Check your button config regardless and you should see where it is, and can rebind it if you want.
Great video
is the game worth it for 60 bucks? also in the us are there any stores like game stop that i can actually go and buy a copy from?
wish it had a pc release tho :( idk if i even have playstation plus or whatever its called anymore.
I think its worth - it's a competitive game with a lot of depth! You can buy it in any store now I think, as well as digitally on PSN.
I work at GameStop and we have copies, cheers
Lt. Furno If you like Gundams, and fast pace RK battles, so yes, and prepare for the tons DLCs, yes I'm srs the tons DLCs !
Often when I attempt this maneuver my character sends out his striker unit. I have the striker button set to a different button than boost dive. Can you help me out?
Andre Martinez you might be holding down the boost button or something weird. Make sure after your side step no buttons are being held when you press Boost Dive. Let me know if that fixes it
It still happens, I made sure to only press boost dive at the end of the sequence.
Which button do you have it set to? Do you have the turbo button on or something? That's really weird, that shouldn't be happening :(. I'll try messing with it in training mode but I've never encountered that problem. If you just jump in the air then boost dive do you get Striker?
Update: After playing with it, it definitely seems like the only way it comes out is if you have the jump button held while doing doing Boost Dive
thank you
Oh ho dang I didn't know Kimaris was available. I thought Barbatos had all the hype.
So it's a wavedash? Reminds me of a wavedash combined with a fuzzy guard.
Imagine wavedash but you're also spot dodging at the same time :P
What button layout would you recommend for boost diving on a controller or pad?
I think everyone is different. It defaults to flicking the right stick, which I think many players stick to, but a shoulder button is probably okay too, like L1 or L2. I would say do what's comfortable for you - online play is the main focus of this game so you'll be able to just play with whatever configuration you like best. Try the default pad layout first and if boost dive feels uncomfortable try moving it to a shoulder button.
Is there gonna be any way you or are you just show the video about blocking or what suits do block
JOEBOY fuller every suit can block. Blocking is an interesting topic so I would like to make a video about it. Thanks for the idea!
That's odd, I never played a Versus game and jumped to online on the first hour or so of playing the trial. Just randomly pressed the dash. Won 3/3 times I played lol
Im new at gundam and all this boost step and boost jump is bloody hard lol
Don't worry too much about this! It's good to keep in in mind as you're learning, but one step at a time - make sure you learn this stuff once you're confident with everything else
"Repeat the same button combo over and over and over again so you don't get sucker fucked by a random shot to the back."
Wow, that is what we in the west call a "Shit Design Choice"
Boost hop is stuck in my system but I do both. Lol. I hate how they took out zeta three round burst.
Yeah Zeta losing the triple tap is kinda sad but at least they're giving it tons of buffs in the 1.06 patch!
is there a reason to step before you dive?
If you don't step, you don't cut guidance, meaning a stray shots fired during your boost dash can catch the landing. Boost dashing and landing itself isn't that bad of a maneuver (especially with lots of boost) but the step dive adds a lot of security to the landing.
Is this game even in U.S.? I have been hearing Japan only
It's been out in US stores and on US PSN for about two weeks.
I love Gundam, and I think gundam versus is a cool game, but I honestly feel like the game could use some work. Yeah it's definitely busy inputs and takes practice for sure. Thanks for posting your thoughts! And feel free to ask if you have questions.
Brett?
Hi
did u know did gundam verusus can multiplayer offline ?
Yup
UnlimitedBrettWorks ooo thx to anwer because i know ,i can play w/ my brother xD
UBW= I am the bone of my sword... UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS!!!!!!
Looks like Bandai Namco style very familiar to Naruto and Dragon Ball system.
Anybody Remembered Gundam vs Gundam on psp?
More vs content plz keep it coming
Video coming tomorrow morning! :D
Took longer than I expected, but it's done orz. releasing tomorrow morning!! >_
Custom robo anyone? :)
Color me convinced. #proTip
One way to get a better life. DONT PLAY THIS GAME. I'd rather u go back to playing Full boost or if your country has it, Maxiboost on. And wheres th whew fun in playing a Zeta that cant shoot 3 times beam rifle
Boost hop+step+dive is better than boost step dive btw
this gameplay looks spastic and terrible.
Nah you're a fucking idiot
