    Really good video Bryan. The one point you missed making was that the pnuematic really is aimed more at a commercial/industrial user. They consume a large amount of air, requiring a large compressor to run for any real length of time, but will literally run for hours straight without melting down, utilising the flowing air to remove heat. They are great for outdoor use, but that lack of dust extraction means they are pretty awful to use indoors, unless you have a dedicated sanding booth with air extraction/filtration.

      Excellent point Darren! Someone else had mentioned how much of a hog on air they are. I probably should have mentioned something about that in the video. Really appreciate you sharing and watching!

    Great video again. Whilst not in the market for a sander, here I am just like the other Flynndoggers and tool junkies.
    One of my Sanders is actually an old black & decker gel grip mouse, I've had it over 30yrs, replaced the motor in it about 5yrs ago for £12/$14. Despite not being heavy duty or pro use it has served me well and it's my "go to" sander for internal corners.
    Anyway thank you for the great continued content. Hope you and the family have a nice weekend, and that includes Burt who had me cracking up😂 I'm now actually going to replace the toilet roll with sandpaper before the GF wakes up in the morning 😈 😂

      Haha! I love tools that last forever. The old Black and Deckers were so good. My dad had tons of them, and still kick myself that I gave many of them away after he passed. I still have his old corded drill though. That thing is so powerful and will never die! Even if it does spark up here and there. Thanks so much as always for watching, really appreciate it!

    Great comparison video. I absolutely agree with your comment about purchasing the Festool 125 sander. I splurged and bought one about a year and a half ago. I have to say it's a great sander, but it crapped out on me a few months back as I was trying to finish a Christmas project. Really disappointing, especially since I had only used it on a couple of small projects. Anyway, after packing it up and mailing it off for service, I ran out to the 'Po to pick up a second sander to finish my project. I ended up getting the Dewalt corded version with variable speed for about $75. And I have to say the Dewalt produces an equally good finish, equally good dust collection and is more comfortable to use than the Festool. Oh well, even though I paid three-and-a-half times as much for the Festool, at least I got a really cool plastic box. That's a real plus, since I've had to ship the thing back to Festool twice to be repaired. (They didn't fix it the first time). Lesson learned.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oof! Thank you so much for sharing that Kevin. I've always wondered about that with festool. When I have purchased their items they always sell me on the fact that they will fix any issues. Sounds like those are 1/2 promises. I agree with you, the DeWalt corded is probably the best value out there. I would buy it again in a heartbeat! Thanks again for sharing your experience. Good to hear.

  • @a9ball1
    @a9ball1 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Brian, as you know I've been doing this awhile. I ended up using the DeWalt corded and I have a very old Ryobi 18v that just won't die. I haven't even had to replace the brushes. I found that for me, I hardly ever use one outside the shop so it really doesn't get much use. When it finally dies I'm going to the DeWalt cordless because I would rather buy good hardwood then spend the money on the green n black tools. For the cost of the Rotex I could buy some nice wood.
    I believe if the tool works well enough that I will reach for it when needed then I don't care if it's not the best of the best.
    I have a $1 store long nose pliers that I bought in 1998 that I still use. But I only use it to hold wires while I solder them.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I totally hear you on the Ryobi that won't die. I had the some one (I think) for years and years. really really durable. It finally pooped out on me about 6 months ago. I was honestly going to get another one, but didn't really need it at that point, as I had already dug into festool. I love your point on spending money on hardwood vs overpriced tools. The wood is usually 75% of the beauty of my projects. Now you are just reminding me that i need to go to the sawmill soon. I'm getting ready to make a Round table (hopefully have a video or videos on it soon). Never done one before so it will be a fun learning experience.

    I've got one of those square sheet palm sanders I bought for 5 dollars at a yard sale. It's a Bosch and I hate it because it takes a lot of effort to sand with it. @FlynndoggWoodwork the great thing about that sander is without a shop vacuum it does a fantastic job of collecting all the dust off my work piece and haven't found any thing left on the surface when done. Interesting look at the pneumatic! I’ve never considered using pneumatic. Once thing to consider is the added volume of your compressor. Unless you have an ultra-silent, that’s a lot of noise when it charges the tank up!

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Totally agree! Great point on the volume of the air compressor. These things really do cycle through quite a bit of air and if I was using one full time I would definitely get a larger capacity compressor. Thanks as always for watching Damon, and I hope you have a great week!

    My brother in law gave me a pneumatic sander over 30 years ago and I have never used it. I think I know where it is hiding..😅 He used it when he worked in an auto body shop preparing to paint cars. I do have a couple of air sources near my bench so maybe I'll give it a try. However, I'm happy with my Ryobi cordless sanders.

      Yeah, if you have electric/battery, I don't think you will fall in love with the pnuematic. You kind of get spoiled with those. I think that is the main use for these sanders is in the autobody industry, but thought it might be interesting to try it out for woodworking. If I was going to use it full time I would definitely get a bigger tank as it blazes through quite a bit of air!

High vibration and it’s so weak you can stop it with your hand and not lose any skin lol. A Festool or Mirka is still a couple of years away for me to afford, so I’m looking for something cheap but more aggressive.

    The Rotex isn't a circular sander. It's a orbital sander in both modes. One is a standard random orbital mode and the other is a gear driven orbital sander. The pattern of a random orbital sander is just that, random. If you press harder on it, it's orbit will be slower, though its rotation might not be. Rotex sanders, in Rotex mode, drive the orbit with a gear so it doesn't change speed. It's orbit is then determined by the gears. In this mode it's very aggressive. It makes the belt sander obsolete, tough there is no reason for a woodworker to own a belt sander.

      @@FlynndoggWoodwork Nope it's a nightmare because at my age I have to depend on others. Plus the tiling contractor is squeezing us for more. He got to see infantry meat. Now he's acting like an abused kid.

      @@themeat5053 Oh man, sorry to hear that. We actually had two of our bathrooms tiled this week. They knocked it out in 2 days. Worked from 8:00am -10:30pm. they were slow but work was great. I got his phone number from our contractor for future use.

    Answer to Amish question: Amish don't have electricity in their homes. However, if they have a gas powered generator, then they can use a corded tool.

    You installed a female quick connect coupler on the pneumatic sander, should've been a male. They use pneumatic tools because the motors are non sparking therefore safer in some environments.

    You did not mention in your review that this sander is fairly hungry on the amount of air it consumes as a Pneumatic sander it consumes 19 scfm for about 2.7 CFM. Directly from the DeWalt website on the equipment. Depending on your air compressor how much per hour it might consume the estimate for figuring KW is a bit of an unknown at this point in time. The other dewalt sander he showed was 0.36 KW or 360 Watts or run for2.75 hours in my market where I live in Florida average utility bill for one KW is approximately 16 cents. I doubt if any of the air compressors that the average person has can run for about 3 hours for 16 cents it's a trade off input power versus pneumatic input power which results in a compressor the cost is high to operate but they do give you some diversity in other work that it may be worthwhile I do not see simple sanding using automatic sander worth the operating cost.
